AO108's Cognis Hereticia and primarchs sculpt tread- Knight!

Hey hey!

Brother AO108 speaking here. This is my very first post on sculpting and the like, I normally dont really show of my work besides my Eagle Warriors (who are just conversions, not complete sculpts from scratch).

This tread will be all about on how I go on about sculpting models from skratch for 30k/40k.

My very first parts for this topic on one of my prides I made, this IS a conversion, but it shows how much a primarch can be changed by simple extra bits and a resculpted pose:

This is my (not so finished) version of Gwal, created by our forum brother MikhalLeNoir

But yeah, back to the real sculpting from scratch topic. I will be sculpting a few primarchs in the coming few months. I am rather slow at sculpting, but (I hope) my end results are showcase worthy.

So my first project on this topic: Xander Travier the scorpion lord and knucklebuster.

This is a character brewed by many crazy ideas and a brawl fight that happened close to where I live. A warrior-lord armed with two chainsaw knuckledusters, with a carapaced armor. And now with the special part for this model. The tail, yes, he has a mechaincal scorpion tail.

the first two pics show the pose on how I want the arms positioned etc. But then we are all like "Huh? Why did he remove the arms???", I removed em because I forgot primarch like guys have large chests... And my guy was a bit too slim. And after much contemplating... I am going to sculpt the arms seperatly.

So now, what inspired this model-project?

Well, like I said, a brawler king with a mechanical scorpon king. Here are some of my reference and inspiration pics:

So, process will be slow, and I have no clue how the end product will look. At some point I will have another primarch in the works, but you will see by then what or who that is

I have no clue what this will end like, but I am determined to do my utter best, now I'll get back to my sculpting tools and lonely metal bar figure. Please leave a comment if you have any ideas or questions!

And I am back with just a very small update and some random musings, thought you might be intrested!

 

So, on the very wip body:

Bulked him up some more, I might cut some blobs a little down while progress on this miniature continues, mostly because of the following reason:

I will make this a large dark-mechanicum style guy, cogs and clockwoks intergrated into his flesh, pistons serving as extra details and armor plates covering, but also here and there sneakily showing the clockwork frame. Like little cogs and pistons poking out or shining trough.

 

For this, I bought myself a bag of micro-clockwork parts and lots of little brass rods of different sizes (they should arrive soon i hope ^^)

I am not sure. But are the legs on your sculpt a bit short compared to the upper body?

I was thinking the exact same, but holding the model next to my primarch models it looks about right. It is probably the combination of the pose mixed with the angle of the pic that make them look short... We shall see xD

still VERY wip plates and boot, far from what I want them to be, but it gives a nice idea on how the plates will be ish on the model (I know the boots look rather large, leg armor will help compensate and a robe in the end will make it look right, so bear with me )

Btw, does anybody have a idea on how to best make a chain knuckler? What would be the most effective version?

what is that on the figure? xanders green became camoflaged?

The brownih stuff on xander was a spray paint layer, so I could better see imperfections in the greenstuff ;) It helps me see the imperfections in the greenstuff plates, its a very slow, messy, but with good results process ;)
