HH :- Knights Errant

So we all know that at some point in the not too ( Hopefully ) the final Legions will be released and then possibly the Custodies and Sisters of Silence as well ( not humming the doctor who theme tune as I write Silence honest msn-wink.gif )

any way back to my point

I have been enjoying the Garro / Malcador and Knights Errant audio books and have been wondering ( Hoping ) if Forge world will release a small force of the Knights Errant , and with that hope it got me thinking ,

How would they produce a force of what are effectively individual Characters each with their one strengths and weakness's

After listening to the Vengeful spirit it is pretty obvious to me that Malcador has been planning and assembling his force for a long time and may have hundreds of his knights errant hidden / working around the galaxy for him

so now comes the multi million £ / $ dependant on your cash system Questions ,

1 :- how do we think there command structure is formed , is it based on the Legions or is it the precedent of the Death Watch system?

2:- if Forge World create them how do you think they will sort out the rules for them ? i.e. will they just create an allied detachment Dex like the Inquisition dex for them or would they create something more along the lines of the Harlequin Dex ( i.e. only Troops , Fast Attack and Elites , or would they go for a Small Elite force dex like the Grey Knights.

3:- also Should Malcador be in the dex and how would that work?

4:- finally What sorts of Cool rules do you think should be used to capture the spirit of this force?

looking forward to this conversation

Not meaning to derail your thread at all, just a point of information - based off Vengeful Spirit I had assumed there were only a handful of Knights Errant in the galaxy. You imply hundreds. Is it hinted somewhere there might be many, many more that haven't been given screen time yet? Just interested.

ok maybe not hundreds maybe more like close to 100 if not a bit over

80 Ex Death Guard ( sitting on the moon  )

3 Ex Sons of H

2 possibly more of the Space wolves

1 possibly more Iron Hand , White Scar , World Eater , UM ,

not sure about any Thousand sons ( probably not )

I am sure Malcador will have recruited at least 1 from every legion but at present we don't have a huge amount of information to go on

As far as I am aware, there is no "if" around whether FW will do rules for them. Alan Bligh has characters like Garro on his To-Do list, had a brief chat to him at the Open Day about upcoming forces in 30k - there's a lot, so it may be a while before we get there.

Whether there will be enough to make a list in their own right, or maybe some characters and a supporting squad, it's far too early to tell. Judging from what I could tell, the main driving force behind this consideration is the appeal of Garro - it gets asked in most seminars, and Alan must get it a lot during open sessions.

Its good to know the Alan Bligh is getting  lots of Questions about a Garro Character

Regarding some of my other quistions :-

I recon that the Knights Errant would be the basis using what becomes the Death Watch Command Structure

Malcador sets the orders to an Alpha or Primas then the Primas sets himself or gets a Squad together to do it  ,

cool rules would be they all get stealth ( give them all camo cloaks  )  then like with Vanguard vets they can each buy their own special weapon

and they would all have Artificer Armour ( noting that they have the most advanced armour  in the books )

what are your thoughts

Garro is Malcador's  Agentia (spelling) Primus (Sword of Truth). So it's a safe bet to say he's the de-facto leader of the Errants. They don't come across as having a strict organisation like the Legions or the future deathwatch. It seems to be more like everyone is equal unless Malcador or Garro set a mission requiring larger numbers of warriors.

As for rule of cool I'd kit them out based on their legion style whilst keeping the actual links minimal. Like Rubio's gladius- no ultima symbol but still the sword form of the Ultramarines. Advanced armour types would work for them as well. Being under the direct control of Malcador would give them access to Mk VI (Loken's & Garro's armour on the Burden of Duty cover).

Shield of Lies spoilers:

In Shield of Lies Malcador says to Garro: "A handful of Knights Errant are not enough.", and that he is founding the Grey Knights as a larger force to combat daemons in the future.

This can be taken to indicate that the Knights Errant is a pretty small force. To my knowledge, we've seen/heard of 17 named Knights Errant, and around 4 (that's all I can think of off the top of my head anyway) possible or unnamed ones. I can't recall the other surviving Death Guard from the Eisenstein being indicated specifically as becoming Knights-Errant, but I might be forgetting something on that.

EDIT: had a re-listen to Ashes of Fealty, and it indicates that the others didn't become Knights-Errant:

Voyen: "You left us behind, Nathaniel, those who remained of the seventy. You went away and you were given purpose. But not the rest of us. Not I."
