Looks amazing man!!! How did you do the white?

1.) Prime black (I know right?)

2.) Airbrush Zandri dust

3.) Zenithial airbrush highlight Typhon ash

It's so simple, honestly no need for crazy third party paints, glazes, or other hipster crap :P

Edit: if and when I do another knight, I'll make a tutorial just for you mate. Check higher up in the thread for what the Zandri dust looks like on the model before the Typhon ash - it's honestly a good enough color on its own to make a Knight house color scheme.

Thank god no hipster crap! I'm kind of sick of: 'Now apply the newly burned cedar ash to the high points of the model with an eagle bone' and other craziness. It came out very well thanks for the response!

Haha thanks!

I mean I have respect for those insane painters that do amazing jobs, but I have neither the time nor patience to do it quite yet - I love to model/paint but I want to get these models into action quickly.

Honestly, some tutorials seem like: "draw a line with your W&N brush and then throw that brush out. Grab a new brush and paint another line. Then add burnt umber to the model while simultaneously sipping your chai latte triple shot no foam with almond milk..."

Yeah.

@Helterskelter

Thanks a lot! I'd honestly attribute much of the actual work to the airbrush for the effects, but all the hand work with a brush make the model what it is. I just have a fire lit under me to get it done :)

Work on the bases:

Notice the lichen/moss on the stumps and the water effect. I need to get like another bottle of the water effect since I poured it liberally on just one base and it's half empty. Big s/o to the awesome bases from Secret Weapons miniatures.

C&C welcome :)

I just caught up with this. Not seen anything since you finished the build for some reason. You are doing a fantastic job Depth, they look stunning. Will there be any heraldry, or are you keeping them clean and crisp? Excited to see what you do with the Reaver now!

I think the plan is to give the armor a light wash and then add the House Malinax Transfers when they are released.

The bases are looking superb man, they really put your DA bases to shame though, i've been harassing you to improve your basing for a while now, and here is finally proof that you can make some truly beautiful bases.

I have High hopes for you Sons of Horus, but If I see one unpainted grain of sand, I'm gonna smack you! msn-wink.gif

Still drying, but here's the second one:

I really love the water effects, though I wish I had grabbed another bottle of it to make it seem like they were ankle deep in swamp ^_^

@WP

Don't you mean the Dagobah system? :P

@Athrawes

Thanks and yeah I'm still waiting for the transfers (what was that FW? You want to release them at the weekender? Well ok I'll buy it then).

The plan is to do a 50/50 agrax and Nuln oil wash in the recesses of the armor plates and on the dark metal trim. After that, the FW recipe called for Typus corrosion and Ryza rust in some of the areas for weathering.

@Kor'vesh

Haven't heard from you in a while buddy! Thanks for taking a peek. It seems like the only time I can get things done is under my own pressure :D once I "finish" the Malinax Knights, meaning everything but the transfers, my full attention will be on the Reaver.

Im loving these! Secret weapon bases are so great!

Btw, did you paint the base before you poured the water effect?

I tried to mix washes to the WE before it dryed, but wasnt pleased with results.

Yeah I definitely painted the base before hand as I was scared of adding anything afterward - though I wish there was someway off adding floating algae. Don't ask me how I painted them though because I used some old paints and nearly tore my hair out trying to do it.

Though I I'll mention that I did a Mechanicus Standard Grey dry brush for the tree bark and it worked out fantastically over a brown base.

Is that all? Very effective for how simple it is then, looks great.

As for the algae, due to the scale, could you potentially just paint it on? Maybe thickened and stippled on so it looks like it's textured and floating on the surface? Would be risky. If you have any liquid effects left over you could maybe apply them to a small tester base (just turn a regular 25mm upside down and pour in?).

I'm always watching buddy, there is too much fantasic work on this forum to ignore! I've just been a little quite lately, but its nice to know I'm missed. I love the bases by the way. Its a fantsastic look, and you've done an awesome job on this mind blowingly pricey project. I'm green with envy - good job I'm a Salamander.

What's happening with your 1st legion? I imagine that you have a vat of Dark Angels shoulder pads in your house somewhere - live the dream man.

Lol I'm waiting until the next book so I know the rules to build an army around.

But in the mean time...I'm going to do some Sons of Horus ;)

Well before B&C closes the server down, here's some very small unnoticeable work with banner placement as well. I need to airbrush that's as I completely forgot ^_^ derp:

Cool thread.  Love the knights and the fluff piece!!!! You need a Styrix!!!!

Also I live in Providence.... Home of the hipster/risd kids. lol

Some slight progress:

The armor plates are just blue tacked in and there's two heavy duty magnets at the waist gimble:

Looking awesome, and you are giving some dynamic-ness to a fairly static model.

Even if it is giving birth to a Knight(bottom picture) biggrin.png

Stompy Stompy Robots

Really awesome work D: you have far more patience than me when it comes to resin

Lol yeah it helps to have 3 projects going on to switch between to keep my sanity. Plus I'm motivated by Athrawes Warlord so we can get a game in :D

@Dantay

Yeah the Reaver is like a giant brood mother with two Knight babies.

Brother you are just churning his stuff out. Will that be at the bash.

Thanks man! And hopefully depending on my college schedule :)

So what are people thinking? Claw on left arm or right arm (and obviously laser blaster on the other arm)?
