Emperor's Children ...... Land Raider/ Name the Legion

Recommended Posts

  • 1 month later...

Well, here it goes again. I have been debating what side to join, part of me wanted to join the traitors because it would allow me to do my hybrid 30/40k Death Guard alongside my beloved Emperor's Children. However, my Emperor's Children are loyalists and as such I can't sully them....

My master plan that has never really born fruit was to do a crusade era force, pre Istvaan. I managed to get a decent size of EC done last ETL but haven't really managed too much since. Now is the time to win glory for the Phoenician and the Emperor! The pledge will be a bit cheeky in some sense as it will allow me to finish off half done units - notably the veterans who I have 4 done.

My assault marines will be a mix of MK2 and MK4 because I have 1 'Vanguard Vet' elite assault marine done as a concept model and the others have been sat gathering dust as I tried to source parts, so I will add to this unit and start building my MK2s - of which I just have 5. Hopefully over the course of the ETL I'll manage to get a 'veteran unit' and a regular unit of MK2s - meaning 20 marines, but at this stage it will be a vow for 10 of mixed marks.

I, Eidolom, Lord Commander of the Third Legion, rise to the challenge of E TENEBRAE LUX on the side of the Loyalist in this Age of Darkness and vow to complete for the all-glory of the Emperor and Phoenician a fast attack/air assault themed force as detailed below and coming to a total value of 823 points as described in the Red and Black Books on or before August 1st, 2018. Success will bring eternal glory for the Emperor and failure will doom me to wear the Badge of the Oathbreaker.

Dam that thing is looking ... perfect! The mable effect looks amazing!

That's nice! REAL NICE!

A thing of beauty, brother.

Thank you gents, I am glad you guys approve! It is a bit of a drama doing the marble effect, but I do think it is fitting for a Third Legion centre piece.

And now for the naysayers! This kind of took the wind out of my sails on the project; that and the fact I need to do the interior and repair the big hole in the bottom before somehow figuring out how to base this beast.....

I'm hesitant to criticize a technically impressive paintjob - and I kind of feel like a random Florentine approaching Da Vinci and asking if he's sure be wants to do that - but I honestly don't think it works.

It looks like it crashlanded on a bunker and then somehow kept going.

Subjective and everything.

I'm, kind of in agreement. If the marble was, say, white or pink marble instead of the blue-grey it is, then it would look like it fits on the model. As-is, the marble looks a bit too much like the GW standard "unpainted metal" you see on terrain.

Like, that'd be awesome for terrain, but it doesn't fit the Thunderhawk.

Hmm, I am kind of in agreement regarding the blue-grey colour. I was hoping it would come out darker, so I may go back and hit it with thinned smoke paint to see if that takes away some of the blue. I kind of want to have a black older mark theme for my loyalists and the white for the more modern traitorous elements, i.e. MK4 and new stuff.

I am disappointed that you think it looks like unpainted metal though, I think the gloss doesn't help show the nuance of the marbling you can see in person, but I probably should redefine some of the veining to make it stand out more. Once the weathering and the gloss coats are covered by satin coats it should photograph better, but I leave the gloss varnish on until the final stages so i can clean up any oil weathering.

The marble is fantastically done, though I do agree with the others in that it looks a little too dark to mesh with the whole aesthetic, a purer white would look better, I think.

Interesting - I actually think it is  bit too light!

Oh well, I will give the scheme some more thought for the mean time, I am wanting to paint the inset in the nose cone black, or a suitably nice colour shift sort of black, depending if I can get it!

The ETL will see this on the back burner for a while unfortunately......

Made a start on the veterans and the jet bikers! Just the pre highlights. I'll hopefully get the pink down in the next few days

Would have done more but smashed out my remaining Death Guard infantry!

As pearson said, looking forward to seeing some paint on your Emperor's Children.

It's a long process - base layers are more involved than the Death Guard, but at least I can skip the weathering....

Looking forward to seeing some paint on the Children, pity you've gone to loyalists for ETL, we'd have loved some more of those Death Guard conversions over in the chaos forums.

I'm thinking of doing the latest batch of DG as an out of competition entry. If I'd not done them in call of chaos I would have entered, but it's about time my EC got finished off!!

Here is a little progress, got 4 tactical vets and 6 assault vets on the go! With my existing dudes I'll have a semi respectable squad of both soon! Here's a random sample...

White heads and pads to be added later. They'll start to look funky as soon as I've got the gold down!!

I really like the candy effect you're getting on these guys. Like it blows my mind away what we're able to do with paint now.

Thanks! It's a drawn out process for sure, but I think it works! I think I'll stick to dirty or dark legions after this!!

Absolutely agree with Pearson73, your colour scheme is fantastic. It's so vibrant and eye catching.

Thanks for stopping by! Your Chaos EC were a big inspiration to me when I returned to the hobby. If there rumoured plastic 40k noise marines drop I'll be 'borrowing' your scheme for sure!

They're coming along great!

Thanks!! I remember why I only did a few of the these guys the first time round!! Too many little details to do!! The 4 I've been working have been a slog, and I've still got to figure out a Sgt....

Anyway, they are almost done, next update should see a completion....

Nice work, liking the gold of the chest aquilla, not too gaudy.

Ive actually refined the golds, using gloss wash, then violet and green glazes before highlighting with scale 75! They have great Metallics!!

It's dark while still extremely vivid. Awesome.

Why thanks kind sir! I do go very bright to begin with, then filter it back down. I'm really pleased with the look of the white contrasting with the magnenta! You need to set the dark works on some fancy trim for vehicles!! Hint hint....

The veterans have been finished pretty much, I just need to motivate myself to do the standard itself - it's in progress, a few more details to do and the Metallics of the pole. It's the boring bits like this that make me lose interest and do other fun things like this...

These 5 dudes will be the beginning of my slightly less veteran veteranish looking assault squad! I really love Mk2 armour and was gutted that mark got pulled, luckily I've picked up enough for a couple of squads!

Well progress on my ETL pledge continues! All my foot sloggers and jump infantry had a date with the airbrush! Plus a sneaky concept model for my next vow....

As the next photo demonstrates I've gone a little crazy on the 'Seraph Strike Squad' - blame Iron Hands Fanatic for that.... I wanted to emulate the art work as best I can....

I was a bit reluctant to use the helmet so many times, particularly due to the cost implications! Still the Third are all about excess.... I did consider some raptor helmets as they have the 'sonic shrieker' type grill but I didn't like the look. I might have to make the rest of the unit bareheaded.....

Here's a little progress on my MK2s and a few Mk4s.

Once this vow is done I'll be able to lay off infantry for a while!

Your collection is impressive by now. Finish that Thunderhawk! Can't wait to see it complete.

Thanks matey! I keep looking at it's half done form in my garage and think I really should finish it.... I am in need of bits for additional interior detailing and I plan to add lights and a crew. Maybe after the ETL I'll finish off that and my Storm Eagle

LOOKING GOOD!

Paint is coming along nicely and I love the use of Eidolon's helms! I am envious!

Thanks mate! Luckily I managed to scrounge a few from kind souls. I tried casting a few but it didn't work! I'm kind of regretting using the head, but it's the most fitting one for IHFs art, so it'll have to be done!

Now, painting taxtical marines is much easier and quicker than those pesky veterans!! I've managed to practical get 5 done in a day - including the batch painting and lots of glazing and re-glazing! Here is one pre-transfer!

I'm really liking my refined technique to boost the saturation of the pink!! The sad thing is I've just had to redo my jetbikes to match! Oh well - thus is the path to perfection!!

I still want to get Eidolon but just have no use for him since I am mostly stuck playing 40k. But he is just chock full of great detail for the EC. The paint job is also looking sublime! I love the blend of purple and pink in the armor you have achieved.

I've had Eidolon sitting in bits since his release! I actually think I'm at a level where I can do him justice! The pink/purple armour has taken a long time to get right but I'm finally happy with it, it's not been pleasant at times, a few have been stripped down in a rage!! - there are a few things that I'll eventually redo as I look at stuff from the last ETL and think I can do better......

Speaking of which, I've had this dude a while and am quite excited to see him ready for paint! My Veteran Sgt - the last of my 5 veterans vowed, which will take my unit upto 9! I'll add the special weapon guy as a composite vow in my next pledge!

As always, happy to hear thoughts!!
