Laser Vindis: worth it?

Single Tank at sub 150 points that can dish out 3 S9 Ap1 Ordnance shots at 48" a Turn.

You tell me?

No, but really, for its price its hard to beat. You get more shots out of a 5-10 man Lascannon HSS squad but pay double-to-triple the cost for more MEQ bodies which can easily be erased and their effectiveness neutered.

Venators are only truly awesome vs a Super-heavy since they force Snap Shots on Pens.

Rapiers are better off being Thudd or Grav no real contest.

I can't seem to find stats for the laser destroyer array that gives it 3 shots? In fact, I can't find the "array" in my red book at all, just stats for a laser destroyer which has a single shot. I do have stats for a "laser destroyer array" from the Vraks book, but it's the same single S9 ordnance shot of the rapier, except it's AP2 instead of AP1.

Anyway, as someone who used laser destroyer rapiers quite a bit with renegades, I'm a fan of the weapon. It gets a re-roll to hit and to penetrate, is S9, and gets +2 on the damage table. Pretty solid tank hunter, and it's the cheapest upgrade. The grav and thudd guns very much outshine them, though.

The laser tank is pretty good and basically an alternative option to taking 3 laser destroyer rapiers, especially if your group plays using their recent 48" stealth buff. You essentially sacrifice survivability for mobility and an armour value for about the same points (which is a fair trade, some lists do better with one or the other).

The rules are in a PDF, but you aren't wrong, FW has been very poor about keeping these weapon profiles consistent. It's been AP2 vs AP1 or 36" vs 48" for a number of books now.

I mean, first of all, it looks awesome. I mean, at least 10x as awesome as the rapier laser destroyer. So, there's that.

Secondly, there's the fact that it's a lot more mobile than an artillery platform. Depending on your playstyle, that can be a huge advantage. Personally, I can't stand static emplacements. I get bored with models that just sit there and shoot, even if they're technically "better." On the other hand, if artillery is your thing, you probably want the rapier.

Yea, but it would be ridiculous, like if they made the scorpius squadable. Realistically though, unless there's blasts, then it can become overkill as you have to shoot everything at one target; Dread Talon's are super good because its just 3 for the cost of one slot

It is like the coolest and most useless thing of the heresy.

Errr, no? It has extreme value that's only contested by it being a single tank taking up a Heavy slot

He meant the Thunderhawk Transporter, I think tongue.png

Indeed. Two overcharge-firing Laser Vindicators on the drop would make a Thunderhawk worth it. Still at 715 points. But "..any vehicles it carries may move away from it instead" means there is definitely movement involved in disembarkment. Damn. Damn..

Aye, it taking up a heavy slot by itself is so Damn annoying. But it truly is the master of PEW.

Pew, Choom, Voosh, and Dakka - the sacred quartet of war!
