I wouldn't take a 4th Tac Squad then, since AD only has 1 Compulsory Troops. As is, you're not making much use out of the SoH rules if thats what you're going for.

 

Even then, with how many FoC slots we have (3 HQ, 4 Elites) you can still fold this into your DG list without any Issue.

 

If you want to make the most out of an SoH allied, you want to use them for something the DG don't do particularly well: Aggressive Assault.

 

Which means Reavers, in this case. I'd probably drop the ML and SB + 1 Tac Squad for a FL with Rad n' Jump Pack / Chaplain with JP and 2 Reaver Squads. Use them to tie stuff up for Mortarion and his kill-unit.

What do you mean by character?

 

You could take Abadoon but hes very pricey for what youre looking for and doesnt do much that your DG list.

 

As does Loken or Maloghurst whos only benefit is when hes Warlord for moving Reavers and Tac Vets to troops.

 

With only 1 HQ in an Allied Detachment you want to make the most of it ie: a Forge Lord/Chaplain/Vigilator if you dont already have one - but youre only using 1 HQ slot of 3 in your DG lolist so its not really a space issue.

 

And if its for Flavor, why not make use of the special stuff SoH bring to the table? As is, the original list you posted doesnt even need to be an allied detachment.

I play by the rulebook's charts that allow 2 HQ and primarchs below 2k

Master of signal, cataphracti, combi, chainfist 137

Tactical, 13x powerfist, combiweapon, meltabomb 210

Contemptor, kheres assault cannon 190

6x heavy weapons, missile launchers, flakk 235

Unsure about those 3 extra tacticals

Looks better. Also didnt know about the Hqs will look into it.

 

Extra tacs will help ensure merciless fighter. Small benefit but can help.

 

Also makes for extra wounds.

Playing with the rulebook's charts is the only way to play a proper battle below 2k, of course incompatible with unbound armies so either you play charts vs chart or unbound vs unbound.
