Chapter One: Forever At War

Forever at war. Embarked on a cause that is more than just, but worthy of brethren that call themselves knights. This is a holy war...A Crusade. In the name of the Emperor we battle brothers of the Black Templars crusade to forever expand and defend the realm of Mankind. We are the Sword that parries and strikes. We are the Sons of Dorn. We are Knights forever at war. This is what it means to be a Black Templar.

“Rain...Why is it that I always find fighting in rain soothing?”  asked Kyriell of himself. He was no longer a Neophyte but a full fledged Initiate in the Chapter. He had fought of too many worlds to count and in two years he would have seventy years in service to the Emperor of Mankind. He drew his blade, the metallic hiss it gave off as it was unsheathed was so very familiar to him. He charged letting out a gruff bellow from his vox system. This was no normal bellow, oh no. This was a challenge to any that thought themselves worthy to challenge him. Rain came down upon him hard, the ground and concrete was slick with torrents of water flowing down it. Up jumped a Chaos vagabond, and Kyriell’s twin hearts trumpeted in his ears. Not from fear or adrenaline, but of hatred. The aquila symbol still emblazoned upon the filthy traitors chest. The Chaos Space Marine brought his own sword out, this one a chain sword and struck at the Knight. Kyriell easily swatted it away, and smashed his bolt pistol, long since spent of shells, into the face guard of the marine. The Chaos Space Marine jutted back, leaving a brief opening. Kyriell did not take the bait and instead pressed hard with his elbow against the arm that wielded the sword.

The chainsword dropped from the impact, Kryiell figured he probably broke the arm that held it. Still best to press his advantage. He spun on his heel to see the Chaos Space Marine doing the same. Kryiell brought his sword inside his guard with an inward swipe and caught the mask again of the traitor. This time the helm was physically damaged. Kryiell jumped backwards as the fallen Space Marine came at him with a smaller dagger of elegant design. Kryiell brought his sword to bare, bringing the dagger and the arm downwards. Then the hardened battle brother stomped down with his boot on the blade of the Slaaneshi Marine, breaking it against the concrete. His opponent turned the movement into a tackle, as expected of a marine, no wasted movement. Kyriell fell back and pushed his foot into the groin of the fallen brother. This flipped the maine over and the Templar hurried to his feet. The chain by which his sword was attached was now of use, as he pulled it through the air in one motion catching his sword. He did this at the same time as his bolt pistol and charged the now recovering Chaos Space Marine.

The Chaos Space Marine charged but Kyriell was on him, the initiative was his. A well placed blade strike to the leg of the traitor took the leg off below the knee. The traitor fell and he Templar went for a sword thrust. It was dodged and the traitor pushed himself up, now on one knee, and pushed his back against the Knight. Kryiell was hit with this sudden movement, but went to pull the helmet of the traitor to move him away. Where the head went, the body followed, for a brief moment. It was the opening that Kryiell wanted, one that wasn’t a trap. His blade flicked into life and in one clear, clean instant a fatal stab through the ribcage was achieved. The traitor fell, a massive opening was given, and a moment later the traitor’s head was off his body. With his foe dispatched, Kryiell looked around, his battle brothers were doing their duty and finishing off their own opponents. After all, close combat was a speciality of his chapter, all his brothers had fared well, all but one. He saw that brother fall to a knee under a blow of a chaotic mace. He had caught the mace with his own sword and Kyriell jumped into action. The traitor had his helmet off, and his scarred and disgusting face was revealed.

He brought his sword up, once again going for a stab through the ribcage but the figure caught the blade, and with one hand came down upon the kneeling knight once more. The Knight held firm but was unable to move from his position. Kyriell had no choice, he pushed himself behind the fight and using his bolt pistol chain wrapped it around the head of the traitor. Then pushing the back part of the knee of the traitor he pulled his chain. A sickening crack could be head as the head of the traitor was crushed between the two forces. The mace slipped, and the kneeling battle brother brought his own weapon to the fight. The cut was angled, and unclean. The sparks of the chainsword cutting through illuminated all, but the head of the last traitor flew into the night nonetheless. Kyriell looked at his recovering battle brother who nodded his thanks.

“I had him you know Kyriell.” said a lighter but still gruff voice over the vox system.

“I know you did, that is why you were kneeling.” said Kyriell to the other Knight. He was smiling under his helm and figured so was the other Knight that went by the name Kleesv.

“I had to pray for thanks for such a worthy opponent brother.” said Kleesv.

With that Kyriell laughed to himself and they joined their other brothers. It was once that they arrived to another building in the hive that their Land Raider Crusader could be seen. It had taken up position holding an open marketplace with a ruined fountain in the center. It’s own guns were hammering away at what little Chaos Cultist were left. Once they arrived to the Land Raider they received a message from orbit. Their squad, as well as four others would be leaving this battle area. Another Crusade had called for assistance and they would be going to assist. A few of their squad brothers argued to finish the fighting here, but where out ranked. They would be accompanying one of their Chaplins to this new sector, they had no choice but to go. Suddenly as Chaos Cultist charged out of the shadows with its’ makeshift weapon at hand. Kyriell thrusted his sword towards the fallen human, who slipped in the mud and fell directly onto his blade. Kyriell shook his head. Kyriell really did enjoy fighting in the rain.
