cracklingvoice
So, I have finally gotten the first few bits together to begin my Imperial Guard. I already did a work-up of their fluff (link below), and am extremely excited to do the models. I started on the first few squads (more pics to come). Fluff Link: https://goo.gl/5tdjfS First Image (during assembly): http://i.imgur.com/Q1JmkrG.jpg The models themselves are a mix of bits rom Mad Robot Miniatures, Kromlech, and GW. Once I can get a few close-up shots, I'll post them. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316790-starting-ig-kitbash-wip/ Share on other sites
Kierdale
I recommend starting a thread down in the IG forum too. You'll get a lot of good advice down there :) That quite a pile of bitz! I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. cracklingvoice
This is my first WIP, I figured this was a good place to start. I'm going to try to finish assembly today and get into painting. Plus, my girlfriend is out of town for the weekend, so I have all the time I could ask for. cracklingvoice
Got pretty much everyone assembled. I need a bunch more arms and a few vox packs to finish the platoon. I'll prime/paint the guys I have assembled, then move forward with the rest as I get more bits in. http://i.imgur.com/QUAWV2B.jpg http://i.imgur.com/GErj3Em.jpg http://i.imgur.com/zJREp1H.jpg I'm going for a unique flavor, with more of an action pose than the GW squad packs can provide. Plus, the legs and bases I have interact so differently that I ended up getting more action out of each model than planned. I'll prime in batches, painting a squad at a time while the primer dries on the others. I already have the paints I need to get started, maybe missing one or two. Thankfully, I have to game stores within easy range of where I live, so I can get more without much difficulty. cracklingvoice
Got my first few guys painted: http://i.imgur.com/R7Y4DkE.jpg This has been exhausting. I kinda miss painting Marines. And I need some more paints and washes. Abaddon Black for their weapons and some washes for effects. Sorry for the poor camera quality, I need to find my actual camera and build/improvise a light box. I have about 30 that are fully assembled and in various levels of completion for painting, with about 20 that need some more parts. Soric
They look very unique, nice use of the kromlech parts. Are you going to give them camo fatigues or just plain olive ones? Looking forward to seeing how they turn out. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316790-starting-ig-kitbash-wip/#findComment-4244676 Share on other sites
cracklingvoice
Staying with the plain OD fatigues with the tan kneepads (there is a pouch on the back of their pack that I also painted in that color (Karak Stone)). Going for a camo pattern on all of them would be too much to handle, especially since I'm going for mechanized platoons. My lists are going to start off at 35 men, plus vehicles. That's just too much detail to pour into that many models. I do plan on applying some washes for better relief and small detail (Nuln Oil and something for a dirt/rust effect), but that's pretty quick and easy to do compared to painting. cracklingvoice
I finally got out of my rut and did some more painting and modeling. I got a pack of voxes and laspistol arms, so my squads are finally coming together. I had a roll of heavy brown paper that I had used while I was painting my house, found out it works really well as a disposable surface. $11 for a big roll (35 inches by 140 feet). http://i.imgur.com/OXI2ZJK.jpg http://i.imgur.com/XNNxQBM.jpg Once I figure out how to paint the squad vox, I'll attach them and post pictures. cracklingvoice
So, now that the holidays are over, I'm getting somewhere. I present to you the first platoon of Alpha Company, First Battalion, 48th Vellurian Armored Cavalry. I did their first Chimera (four more to buy and paint), and did a couple autocannons for kill team. The full platoon http://i.imgur.com/ZigxqGk.jpg First Squad http://i.imgur.com/wBUZZC7.jpg Second Squad http://i.imgur.com/dWyDOpa.jpg Third Squad http://i.imgur.com/JV0N2mW.jpg Fourth Squad http://i.imgur.com/WiGkkrC.jpg Command Squad http://i.imgur.com/897Qfe7.jpg I still need some special weapons, but this platoon is ready for action as of right now.
