They're pre-Angron, or post-Angron War Hounds that never met up with their primarch. Or even an alternate universe where the Emperor let him die on Nuceria and they changed the white of their color scheme to black in mourning. I never really thought about it, I just wanted to paint Legio XII that wasn't white since I was sick of painting that color at the time.
