Skirmish at the Border: FINAL VIDEO UP!

Recommended Posts

So the more I've been talking with Depthcharge, the more I have been leaning towards driving up from Chicago to join the Heresy apocalypse bash.

I'd be able to bring 5000 points of (90%)painted Lightning Bearers, and my Warlord Titan.

I do have a question though, even while this is apocalypse and just meant as a fun event, would you and your group prefer I run them as a plain Legion list, or would you allow me to use the special units, Volta, Oni, Primach that have been created for them? I understand either way, but it would be fun to finally use my icarion model and get him in a game.

I would love to actually see the Lightning Bearer rules in action hahaha!

Just make sure to bring a printed version for quick reference :)

...hope youll have space for the baby carrier required for the warlord.

Yeah, I already get the sinking feeling ill be in the back seat while his Warlord is comfy in the front seat with a seat belt :D

Do you havea file for army list and rules? If so, send it over and I'll look at it with the guys. Personally I would love to see a missing legion in action and validate your hard work!

i have no issue with you using your rules you have set as long as i can see them before hand and can ask any questions i need.  is everything WYSIWYG?  i can send you my email so you can send me the file.  you may have to be loyalist so we can spread the warlords out!

but dont worry we have come for your warlord!

Thanks guys, Yeah I have the relevant Legion rules and unit rules in a word document, I'll definitely bring a hard copy or two with me for easy reference. If you want to look them over, send me a PM.

After all this I still have the image of a warlord in the front seat and someone stuffed in the back...

FALSE.

The Warlord sits up front with me, my army cases are in the back seat.

Depthcharge can ride on the roof.

DC12, you would be bringing the First Legion?

I would indeed. Again, don't chalk me up quite yet because it's a way out, but that would be my plan. I've got about 3000 points of dark Angels variously painted, a Fellblade built pretty soon, two Knights and hopefully the Reaver.

Is dat good?

Have a question, As it stands I have about 5,500 points of models for the Lightning Bearers (without including any type of LoW), but with that I'm only able to create about a 3650 point army. The problem is limiting it to a single AoD FOC. A lot of my collection is tied up in flying transports and Dreadclaws which eat up heavy Support and Fast Attack choices, and who inclusion in a list would make it impossible to use any of my ground based transports or units which have no flying option.

is 3650 points enough? Or are you guys dead-set on restricting armies to a single detachment? Being able to break the army into one normal detachment and one orbital Assault Detachment would be helpful as i'm finding it really difficult to make an army larger than 4k. with 5.5k worth of miniatures.

I don't know about other people with large collections, but creating 5000 points without LoW is totally fine, but trying to shoehorn apocalypse sized forces into a single FOC chart is....troublesome.

To summarize my issue, Half my 5000 point collection is designed as orbital assault with flyers and dreadclaws, the other half is ground pounding with tank transports. I can't take the tanks or pretty much half my infantry if I take orbital assault (since i wouldnt have enough flying transports for them) and I cant fit any pods, dreadclaws or flyers if I do non-orbital Assault. Thats why my collection of 5k+ is really rough to fit into a single FoC detachment.

Hopefully that issue makes sense and you guys can let me know what the best way to handle it would be.

++++

Finally, feel free to consider the II Legion Neutral when determining Traitor and Loyalist, then just slot them into whichever side needs the points.

This event sounds like a blast! Sucks I only have something like 2000 points of fists (I think, may be more) and havent played a game in about seven bazillion years.

I would need someone to help me along like an old man with a walker for the rules biggrin.png

The idea of seeing these huge armys clash gets my mojo in the groove though, and a lost legion added into the mix to top it all off? Man!

THREE FISTS FOOLS!

And since we're limited to 5k Points and I'm only using 4k and dedicating another 1k to ZM Specifically, I've still got maybe another 5k Points in Stuff.

I'm tentatively bringing:

+++ Imperial Fists - March Apoc (4000pts) +++

++ Legiones Astartes: Crusade Army List (Age of Darkness) (4000pts) ++

+ HQ (515pts) +

··Consul [Primus Medicae]

Legion Centurion (150pts) [Artificer Armour, Cyber-familiar, Melta Bombs, Rad Grenades, Refractor Field, Solarite Power Gauntlet]
··Consul [Forge Lord]

··Land Raider Phobos [Armoured Ceramite, Auxiliary Drive]

+ Elites (185pts) +

Contemptor-Mortis Dreadnought (185pts) [Two Twin-linked Lascannons]

+ Legion +

Legion Astartes [VII: Imperial Fists]

+ Lord of War (385pts) +

Rogal Dorn (385pts)

And for ZM:
*Note: Attacker FoC means that Compulsory Elites are required over Compulsory Troops. So if we're all good with permitting ZM Lists/Detachments to run Rites of War, this is going to be how I dodge the Breacher Tax :p

+++ Imperial Fists - March Apoc - ZM (1000pts) +++

++ Legiones Astartes: Crusade Army List ((Zone Mortalis) Attacker) (1000pts) ++

+ HQ (165pts) +

··Master of the Legion [The Stone Gauntlet]

··Veteran Sergeant [Artificer Armour, Melta Bombs, Thunder Hammer]

+ Legion +

Legion Astartes [VII: Imperial Fists]

And with all this I still have:

10 Tartaros Termies w/o shields and Various Gear

15 Cataphractii with various Gear

10 Foot Destroyers

10 JP Destroyers

10 Culverins

10 Seekers w/ Combi-Weapons

5 Heavy Flamer Marines

1 Contemptor w/ Dual Fists & Carapace Missiles. Painted AL Colors for MOTL

1 Contemptor-Mortis with Autocannons

3 Centurions that can be used as Castellax since we're accepting like that :p

2 Rhinos

1 Drop Pod that may/may not ever get painted.

A Panoply of HQs Including but not limited to:

  • Librarian (Painted Thousand Sons colors for MOTL)
  • Generic JP HQ w/ Power Fist (I use him as a Siege Breaker)
  • JP Serpenta Moritat
  • Bunch of Apothecaries who can be used as is or as Primus'
  • 3-4 Foot Characters with Power Fists, 1 with an Axe
  • 3 Banner Bearers
  • 1 Power Sword Character (IF Command Squad)
  • 1 Thunder Hammer Foot Character.

So....yeah. I can help fill out some points if needed.

This also doesnt include any other stuff I've yet to buy/might buy like Leviathans, Mastodons, Glaives, etc.

I will adrdess this to the group and get back to you guys. I think we might be able to make the game more accessible if we drop the points down, or allow two players to fill a 5k slot.

Will see for force Org

Thanks, I'd love to bring my full army, but apocalypse sized games with a single standard FoC is kind of hard for people without very specific collections.

Loosening up the FoC a bit might help, at least in my case; as the standard FoC isn't really intended to be suitable for Apocalypse sized games. Another option would be to allow an additional detachments (still capping the whole force at 5k together).

And just to be clear, this isn't me making a case for unlimited heavy, fast attack and elites. Just an understanding that big games are fun, 5k isn't necessarily too big, it's just too big for some people without specialized or focused collections to fit into a single FOC.
