Thanks Charlo! I've been really pleased with how they've turned out.

Quick update.

I've spent the past few weeks building and my painting table is starting to look rather busy.

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac173/Warlord-Nazgred/IMG_3164.jpg

So that's the other five vets, the other five seekers and a squad of recon marines all ready to be painted. I've done a subtle little conversion on the recon sergeant so he has an alpha legion helmet, I'll do some closer photos when they're all done which hopefully wont be too long!

I've also been able to get round to painting the power daggers on my other sergeants.

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac173/Warlord-Nazgred/IMG_3160.jpg

I was worried that they would just end up looking like poison weapons since they're in green but I'm fairly pleased with how they turned out, going to do all my power weapons in this way.

Let me know what you think!

Alpharius.

The weapons do look nice, but I think they would look even better in a more contrasting colour like magenta.

I agree i think that look great but would like just  a bit more striking in a contrasting color

They are slightly brighter in reality so do stand out a little more but I agonised for a ages on what colour to do them. In the end I settled for the similar green on the sneaky daggers and more contrasting colours on the weapons but I am open to suggestions, by magenta do you mean like a red/pink colour?

i really like the darker tone these guys have; the black shoulder pads give a slightly sons of horus look too which fits well with the infiltrator theme

Thanks man, interesting you picked out a similarity to SoH I'd never thought of it that way but I know what you mean which is cool since Horus is supposed to have been one of the only primarchs to befriend Alpharius. The headhunters are going to have a very similar scheme, I've ordered some justaerin too which I think will have to have some black on them somewhere.

Yup.

I've got the paints to give magenta a go so might do it on the next sergeant I do.

Update

I've finished the five veterans bringing my veteran squad up to full strength, pleased with these guys starting to get more consistent results with the airbrush.

Prize for whoever can guess which ones were in the latest batch I finished!

Next up I'm going to finish my seeker squad by adding another five guys including the strike leader.

To add to this I've just had a FW order arrive so expect some Headhunters and Justaerin soon.

Fabulous, and all those vicious daggers are on point :biggrin.:

Thanks man, means a lot coming from you your scars are amazing!

Absolutely fantastic effect on the daggers. How did you achieve it??

Again thanks, the daggers are made from dark eldar daggers and knives.

As for painting them I took inspiration from one of the GW tutorials from Christmas

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7e4_-oRMtI

I knew this was the effect I wanted to achieve but wasn't sure how it would look on a curved blade, in the end I just went for it highlighting the middle of the bottom half and the two ends of the top half.

Obviously I used green instead blue so these were the layers I used.

Base - Caliban Green

Two thinned down coats of Warpstone Glow

Two thinned down coats of Moot Green

Edge highlight of moot green mixed with white scar again kept fairly thin

Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks Jimbo! I'm finally starting to get more consistent results with the airbrush and it's fair to say I'm very pleased with the results.

Update:

I've been busy painting and I've got another squad up to full strength, the seekers.

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac173/Warlord-Nazgred/IMG_3177.jpg

Overall I'm pleased with this squad. I dont think the pose on the strike leader worked out exactly how I wanted it, I imagined him shooting out from behind some cover and using his arm for support whilst holding his power dagger but he's ended up looking a bit weird from some angles. Equipment wise I've added a combi melta and a combi flamer in an attempt to add a bit of anti tank and anti infantry respectively, I decided to to give the strike leader just a power dagger so he didn't lose bolter with special ammunition and because I dont plan on getting these guys in combat if it can be avoided.

This is the last squad I'm going to paint in batches on five, next up we have some recon marines.

All comments welcome!

@Brother Pheidias It has definitely made me consider the poses of my head hunters which will be ready to show soon!

Today however I have been playing some games and thought ahead to take my camera to get some photos.

1000 points zone mortalis on a city fight board (i.e. we didn't use the blood in the void expansion) against Stonedrose's raven guard, you can find his log here http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324415-shadows-fall-over-istvaan-heresy-ravenguard/

This the force I used:

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac173/Warlord-Nazgred/IMG_3334.jpg

Basically everything I have painted now fits into a 1000 points. First mission we played was a sabotage one with five objectives and I was the attacker, this is how the board looked after deployment.

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac173/Warlord-Nazgred/IMG_3336.jpg

I deployed first so was going to get first turn so infiltrated quite out in the open hoping to cause maximum damage, unfortunately the raven guard seized and the exact opposite happened...

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac173/Warlord-Nazgred/IMG_3338.jpg

That is what a squad that is about to get obliterated by fury of the legion looks like, luckily there was enough of them left to destroy an objective in my turn and the assault squad was able to do the same on the other side of the board.

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac173/Warlord-Nazgred/IMG_3339.jpg

The mor deythan defended one objective and the big tactical squad another.

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac173/Warlord-Nazgred/IMG_3340.jpg

My seekers came on and dealt a load of damage eventually destroying another objective meaning I'd won if I could leave models on the table, however all of my units were hunted down and destroyed by turn six. I really lost out not getting that first turn!

The next game we played was all about holding objectives and this time I was the defender. I forgot to take many photos but ultimately the game ended in victory for the alpha legion! after my seekers sat on one objective all game and a heroic performance from my assault squad, this was a close game and I think it came down to lucky dice rolls for me in the end.

I did however try to take some artsy shots of the models left on the board at the end of the of the game.

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac173/Warlord-Nazgred/IMG_3347.jpg

I was really pleased to see my army assembled on the board and I'm really pleased with the progress I've made so far! The board and the terrain was painted by stonedrose and it looks great! Playing on a convincing table really helps make the game more fun and I can't thank stonedrose enough for giving me the chance to use it, any questions or comments about it should be directed towards him.

Progress with my painting has been slow since getting a new job but I should be able to show some stuff off soon.

Stay tuned!

Alpharius

Man, I swear there isn't an Alpha Legion player on these boards that can't lay down some serious paint and you're certainly no exception. The metallic teal-green is perfect and the gold accents are great! Excellent work!

Cheers man, all the nice comments really make all the hours of painting worth it. I think they look good but it's nice to know other people do too!

That army shot has made me see how much better my most recent marines are than the initial ones I did, starting to get really happy with the results.

Hello all,

Progress! I've finally finished my recon marines.

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac173/Warlord-Nazgred/IMG_3508.jpg

Really pleased with these guys, particularly the sergeant, He's got an Alpha Legion helmet but I managed to add some extra details to it by carving up on the recon squad helmets and I think the black cloaks contrast the blue green of the armour pretty well. I just hope those sniper rifles can cause devastation on the table top.

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac173/Warlord-Nazgred/IMG_3510.jpg

Finally a teaser of what's next.. Hoping these guys can add some flavour to my army.

All comments welcome,

Until next time!

You do my favorite models justice sir!!!

Beautiful looking green on your alpha's. I especially love seeing them on the painted terrain, everything looks just perfect. High quality work, that is well executed, you should be proud man!

Cannot take credit for the terrain as it all belongs to a friend and it's just a coincidence that my bases fit it so well. High praise indeed from you sir however, spent a lot of time on these guys and I can say I am proud of the results!

Thanks man, loved painting the recon marines they look great but so many fiddly bits that I'm worried will snap off sooner or later :sad.:

I think the rifles themselves will be fine although I did consider giving them copper or plasticard barrels instead, it's the antenna on the sergeant I'm more concerned about I regret putting that on the model actually.

 Hello everyone,

Update time!

I've been busy putting some stuff together, unfortunately no painting though!

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac173/Warlord-Nazgred/IMG_3540.jpg

I've built Armillus Dynatt, I did a head swap on him and I think the helmet adds a lot to the model cannot claim it as my own original idea though because I saw betrayer41 do it first so thanks to him!

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac173/Warlord-Nazgred/IMG_3539.jpg

Both of the heads are pinned so I can easily swap between the two but I'm going to paint the helmet first because I've never painted a head before and am very apprehensive of painting it even without the the hydra tattoo!

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac173/Warlord-Nazgred/IMG_3542.jpg

I also magnetised his base to make it easier to pick him up on the display base, I've never seen anyone do it before and I dont know why because it means I'm not always worried about him falling apart.

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac173/Warlord-Nazgred/IMG_3541.jpg

I also finished putting together the headhunters. Very pleased with this kit very mean looking and alpha legionny, I paired with the mkVI legs and arms because the alpha legion is meant to have access to them.

Going to get these all airbrushed this week then they'll be ready to take away with me to paint whilst I'm at uni.

Until next time!

Update!

After a long time away I've finally completed something, ten headhunters.

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac173/Warlord-Nazgred/IMG_4171.jpg

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac173/Warlord-Nazgred/IMG_4170.jpg

Very pleased with these guys, used the kit with mkVI armour and some arms I had to try and make them look more dynamic. Think they've turned out well and will help to add some more character to my army and make it look distinctly alpha legiony, just hope they perform on the battlefield.

Let me know what you think!
