Imperial Fists successor homebrew

Hey y'all, I need a little love getting my new Chapter worked out. I got some things I like already, those are written in white*. There are also some things I need help with, either putting it "in better words" or having facts straightened (meaning if I'm getting fluff or things wrong, let me know). The things I got so far are:

  • Chapter Master: Brictius/ Bastium (Brick/ Bastion). I got the model and loadout, working out the fluff accordingly. Needs a strong name, something with a B like the ones I got. Brictius is latin for piebald, which for some reason I like. Like a "petname" from his battle-brothers. (I imagine he's got pigment spots or something on his head). This wouldn't be on his profile, everyone just "knows" it.

  • Theme for the Chapter: As all Imperial Fists, they are Siege specialist, but they in particular are adept at the gritty in-yet-face-hows-me-powerfist mess of trench fighting. I'm thinking (heavy) flamers, stormshields etc.

  • Colors. Funnily enough, they look alot like the old colors for the Raptors (still called Raptor legion back then). There's good yellow in it, to show they affiliation to the Fists.

  • Facts for the Chapter: Stubborn SOBS like all the sons of Dorn, they have been in many prolonged campaigns and suffered for it. The previous Chapter Master died in their current campaign and the First company's Captain stepped in to fill his shoes. He'll be in command until the end of the campaign after which the Chapter's council will vote in a (new) Chapter Master.

  • They are currently involved in a campaign alongside the Celestial Lions** Chapter, fellow sons of Dorn.
The colours.

The piebald. (Painting him is next on my agenda).

Equipment: Thunderhammer (fist looks more boss tho), Digital weapons (in case it's all 1's rolled to wound NOT ON MY WATCH) and the Shield Eternal. I believe it makes a good combination but I'm open for suggestions all the time. Magnetising his backpack in case he ever needs a Jumppack.

So why am I posting this?

It's not only to show off my (few) models, it's also because I'm in dire need for a good Chapter name for these boys. I had originally called them the Disciples of Wrath and even tho I still like the name, I someone don't see it fitting for them. I want something that ties them in with the Imperial Fists/ Dorn more than just a "random cool name". With this I would really love some help.

In advance, I thank you.

*I'm also making this my WIP thread for the Chapter, hence the white text reference. Stuff posted at a later date that I'm not sure about will be in yellow or something.

* *The Celestial Lions reference is because they're my primary army. I love the IF Chapter Doctrine and having one army that follows the same rules just helps play. I know the lore on the Celestial Lions. Please don't start telling me things about them. I know it. New and old. This thread is for the boys in the blue-yellow pyjamas.

I like it, it's on the list. Looks a lot like Celestial Lions in terms of flavour tho, so I'll keep it at the bottom of the list (but on it).

I found this translation for Spearhead = Cuspis, Cuspis of Dorn sounds silly, but it's still something.

Hounds of Dorn, Hammer of Dorn, Spear of Dorn, Fist of Dorn, something like that but it's all just... not it. You know?

Also I have no idea if any of these are taken or not.

Stalwart trench-fighters suggest names like Phalanx, Wardens, Shields etc - getting something of their stubbornness and tenacity. They also should sound a bit brutal/grim, for the desperate melee that must take place.

Maybe words like Rancour, Storm, Idignant, Tempest... A chapter name doesn't have to follow the standard 'template' of 'adjective-noun(plural)' so do get creative ;)

Quick question: how "done" or "not done" is it to take an excisting chapter (the Executioners) and change their color scheme to fit my own nefarious end? I was looking at my guys on my desk just now and thought "Executioners, now there's a fitting name". Then I realised O yea they exist, so I started reading up on them. Their fluff and "ideology" kinda fit the feel I was going for on my guys. PLUS they're of Imperial Fist geneseed! *SIGN*  Their whole "Sir we're surrounded by the enemy! Good! Ramming speed!" mentality really fits the pigheaded stubbornes I admire in Dorn's sons.

I'm aware of the "do what you feel like" attitude (which got me started thinking on this in the first place) I just don't want to be "another one of THOSE guys" when it comes to something like this. Therefore I would appreciate your honest opinions on this matter. I haven't read all of their fluff on the 40K wiki, I just got to the end of the timeline, so I still have to read up more and see how I can fit my guys into that (altho the whole "arriving at a strange planet on the edge of space littered with the bones of the dead" will fit in nicely with my local GW's themed Campaign that's running right now.

Anyway please: your thoughts. Have to eat and run (and fight a game against Orks) now, I'll be back later to answer any likely questions.

My suggestion to you would be to use the Executioners as your parent Chapter. You'd still be of Imperial Fist lineage, just that through the Executioners. That way you can use aspects of their psychology without treading on toes.

Yeah, that's not a bad idea. Just wondering if and how they are granted that option, to sire another Chapter. I do like the name The Headsmen, or "Headsmen" tho. Idea. But not sold.

It has been decided. The Executioners are at the end of their Penitent crusade and Chapter Master Arkash Hakkon has decreed First Company Captain Brictius is to take a hundred chosen men with him and form a new Chapter. They shall uphold the honors and goals of the Executioners first and the Emperor's will as final. Newly appointed Chapter Master Brictius has brought his Black Shields with him (his personal bodyguard) and appointed each of them in charge of one of the new Companies yet to be inducted. Strike Cruiser Cuspis (Spearhead) has been gifted as the new Chapter's mobile base of operations until such a time they either find a homeworld or win greater prizes and add to their fleet through victory in combat. Hakkon personally has appointed a Librarian and  Chaplain to help Brictius and form the base of his War council. Chief Apothecary Hennis from Brictius' Black Shields is the final member of the War Council.

I'm not as great at writing prose as I sometimes think I am. Anyway to sum it up, they'll be a fresh new Chapter decended from the Executioners and given one large space bound vessel (not the Chapters largest, yet big enough to hold a few hundred marines comfortably). A Librarian, a Chaplain and Brictius' own Apothecary form his War council and the four of them will have to guide the new Chapter (who's name has not yet been decided, hopefully the upcoming narrative campaign I'm going to field them in will help me make a decision on this). Gues I've got my basis. Time to head on over to the Liber and see what can be done.

Before this post I would have suggested Executioner successor as you don't want to re-write existing fluff (even something as trivial as a colour scheme) as there will always be the inevitable "that's not right" tag that goes with it.

With your own chapter you can do what you want, and at worst somebody might not like your back story, but there's already plenty of haters for the existing chapters.
