Deathwing Rule Question

Regarding the combination of a Ravenwing Attack Squadron or Ravenwing Strike Force and Deathwing Strike Force.

The Venerable Dreadnought must have a drop pod, the drop pod ignores drop pod deployment rules, auto arrives on your turn of choosing.

Does the Drop Pod scatter still or does the Ravenwing Attack Squadron Rule over ride and cause it to be placed within the 12'', or 6'' if using the strike force?

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

The bikes have a Teleport homer, which doesn't work for drop pods.

However, the 'Summon the Deathwing' rule for the Ravenwing Attack Squadron says:

"Friendly units composed entirely of models with the Deathwing special rule do not scatter when they Deep Strike, so long as the first model is placed within 12" of a model from this formation."

So that would work for other Deep Striking things, like an Interrogator Chaplain with a jump pack.

But a drop pod doesn't have the Deathwing rule, even if it is a Dedicated Transport for a Venerable Dreadnought, so it doesn't benefit.

And as Steve86 said, it's the Redemption Force formation that changes the Drop Pod rules, not the DWSF detachment (luckily, as a turn 1 drop-dread is the only way to prevent an auto-loss in a DW-only army).

just built a 1000 point deathwing strike force with v.dread in droppod. looks sexy...but 17 models.........meh at least my turns will be quick

Consider upgrading the drop pod to a FW Lucius Drop pod. It gains shrouded on the turn it arrives, and the Dread doesn't have to disembark straight away, so you can instead use it as ablative armour for a turn while waiting for his little brothers to arrive. Since you auto-lose if the dread dies, those 15 points extra might be a good investment.

That's what I meant, indeed. Sorry.

Still, that's just six AV12 hullpoints (with the drop pod easier to blow up due to being open topped), most armies stand a decent chance of doing that, so Shrouded should be a big help.
