Hatred from Monarchia: A WB log (Warning, pic heavy)

Yea, I was feeling petty and bitter over minor crap (did I mention petty?) so RR volunteered to try his hand battle report from the Word Bearer point of view. So I got to sit back and let him do the picture and notes detail

The only downside to this is that it'll be done at RR speed (love you buddy)

WLK

It's cool. A lot of details are missing, but the major parts are all there, aside from the picture of Varys standing over a dead bloodthirster. It's been a long week so far, but the game was hilarious, and I learned a lot. WLK played like a total boss, and I learned a ton, as that's what playing against a good opponent will do to you. "The beatings will continue until morale improves."

I believe that was Ray's battle report.

It seems abrupt because the game was. We played 1.5 turns, where Ray believed I had him so much on the backfoot he asked to call the game.

I fielded

Praetor with Legion Command Cata Squad in an Anvillus

Praetor with 10 Dark Furies

Librarian with 8 Seekers in Drop Pod

Contemptor Talon x3

Contemptor Dreadnought in Drop Pod

Mor Deythan 1x10
Mor Deythan 1x10

Tactical Squad in Drop Pod 3x10

Tactical Support Squads in Drop Pods 2x10

Dark Furies 1x10

Leviathan Talon 1x3

Notes about the game:

--I won the roll off to go first, opted to let Ray deploy/go first. I then seized the Initiative

--I dropped 4 Drop Pods pretty much right infront of his army, the Contemptor Dreadnought actually landing behind him in the corner of the table. My Praetor landed safely, with both a Tactical Squad and Plasma Support Squad landing between his Bloodthirsters ad Daemon Prince.

--With supporting fire from the Leviathan talon, one of the Mor Deythan and somebody else, the Daemon Prince was killed turn 1. I also kill a Rhino and my Contemptor Talon targets one of RR's dual Assault Cannon Contemptors, killing it.

--A Volkite Culverin squad emerged from the dead Rhino. The snap shots downed my flying Anvillus, killing 3 of the Command Squad. The Praetor and Standard Bearer move into cover.

--The Mhara Gal does 2 wounds to my Dark Fury Squad, who then fail their Morale Test and flee off the table

--The Bloodthirster has 2 bad charge options, either a Dark Fury squad (which would leave him in the open infront of the middle of my army) or my Praetor in cover (who would strike before him and had a Paragon blade...but could earn slay the Warlord)

The avatar of the Blood God chose Praetor Varys, and in a single round of combat, was thrown back into the hell realm that spawned him! I managed a single 6 to wound, which the monster failed.

--My Librarian and Seeker pod Mishap and are destroyed, but damn near everything else arrives on target. My army advances across the table, pushing RR back to within 8 inches of his table edge. Everything is freaking on point. At the end of my turn, I've killed somewhere near 1,500 points of the Word Bearers, have the Word Bearers blocked in their own zone, and my army poised to wipe out another 1k or so in the next turn.

RR asked to call it, and so we did.

I wish I wrote this up sooner, I may have remembered more.

WLK

Sounds like those Ravens were still pretty cheesed off about that whole "Istvaan" thing. :D

With the exception of the Furies fleeing off the board and the Librarian+Seekers Pod mishaping, my army was out for blood that game.

I was surprised by how angry it was. It took 2 turns of full volleying before a plasma gun killed himself!

No kidding. I still have nightmares over the trouncing. I actually can't name a single unit that was the most dangerous within the army, and I'm sure more than a few RG brought popcorn to the fight.

Oh I take you seriously enough , it seems a lot of what I read in the games you play ( outside of this last one )  are not that you are not a capable general , I think  you certainly are , it seems though that you cant get lucky to save yer life on the table top.

Watch , Ill come down there lose half my tanks turn 1 from  rolling ontop of rocks or something XD

WLK  is lucky and hes also a capable general , maybe you should just put a hex on him , get someone to do the voodoo on his dice.

Tell him that  Corax had to watch one of  the guys he personally vouched for who fought in his rebellion turn traitor and do all the horrible things that he saved them from in the prison. Gotta get that emotional rabbit punch in , then watch the sixes turn to 1s

I think a tank heavy list would trounce both of us

Lies , I would probably somehow lose every vehicle on  turn one

and I tell R2 this all the time, 90% of what I do is pure on the moment BS.

There is no grand plan, no scheme.

If I am capable of anything, I have to thank my old High Elves. I played them since they had a Ravening Hordes list, through the misery of Intrigue at the Court (Shut up Prince on a Dragon, this lvl1 mage is today's General) and into the hateful book the HE became.

The HE taught me to play with often subpar troops (I had BLOCKS of HE spearmen, and their s/t 3, weak armor and relatively high cost made them weak choice imo) to tackle superior enemies, learned how moving to the right place at the right time can cover up seemingly glaring mistakes, and sometimes there is nothing else to do but say "Screw it" and charge the big nasty thing.

Now couple that experience with Space Marines, means when I win I often win BIG, and when I lost its leaves me tabled.

Ray can attest to my mood swings even losing a single unit sometimes. I play them like they are glass cannons.

His 40k Word bearers did

He had over 300 cultists

Trying to play fancy against multiple 30 strong mobs was a pain

He's been advised of that route, I think he's avoiding it as it's pretty much what he did before

Hm , see im not terribly familar with word bearers , what  I have seen  that has been terrifying has just been a tide of dude and demon.  Maybe more Galvorbak?  Shame you cant Talon up the  like hyper demon Contemptor they have.

This last game can't be blamed on luck. It was a big fail in the moment, but a huge learning experience in the long run. A tank list would hammer both WLK and I, and I shudder at the thought of the three of us having a combined luck that would contribute to a slap fest. And the idea of a "cultist" style allied guard list makes me shudder. I like allies, not humans stealing the limelight, LMAO.
