First - I'd be careful with the book bundle. At the Weekender we got the updated Legion-specific red book, this appears to be the base Crusade list red-book, and I can't see anything in the description to say it's updated. My gut tells me that this is the old Crusade book, and ForgeWorld are in the process of updating this book with the newer units from the past couple of years.

My advice, avoid the bundle and just buy book 6 on it's own - you don't get any discount by buying the two together, and you'll only kick yourself later when the updated red book comes out.

Also boo for using regular contemptors as cortus. Way to differentiate. I know it would mean sculpting a whole other dreadnought but if it's a contemptor lite, I'd want to see some difference.

The Cortus is not a Contemptor "light" but more of a Contemptor that was built too quickly, resulting in a shaky interment and maybe some lighter plating here and there. Outwardly it can look the same.

We'll see about the Contemptor-Cortus getting an Actual Model.

Ive seen some people say they might be 6+ months out if we're to get any at all.

But with the Legion-Specific Contemptors and the Relic Chassis Available and very possibly outselling this Model, it kinda makes sense for them to try and push sales of it.

Second, I'm going to go negative for a second (which is unusual, I'm normally one of ForgeWorlds biggest supporters / cheerleaders), and say that some of these bundles are cop-outs.

  • When the Contemptor Cortus was first announced it was described as a small & scrappier version of the Contemptor (which I imagined Scrappy Doo to Scooby Doo), and hence was expecting a new sculpt. Seems like the basic Contemptor hasn't been selling (and why would you, when you buy the Relic or the Legion specific ones), and Betrayl at Calth has a plastic version that will make this one obsolete - solution:  re-badge it as the Cortus, avoid the process of designing a new model and re-use the existing sculpt as a new unit and hopefully drive some sales of an outdated model. Lazy to say the least.
  • The Leviathan Bundle saves you no money (not a penny) but forces a fixed configuration onto your models in 4 CC weapons (3 claws and one drill) and one each of the two current ranged weapons. Not only did ForgeWorld Bundles used to save you money (even if it were in the single digit %, it was still a saving), but having three Leviathans I only have a single claw and drill and opted for 4 ranged weapons. I wouldn't touch this deal, I'd pay the same and swap the weapon configurations to what I wanted. Plus I'd wait for the Melta weapon that was available at the Weekender.
  • The other bundles seem weird in their composition. I haven't added them up, but I'm guessing they're along a similar lines as the Leviathan and Book bundles in that they don't save you money. They just seem like weird assemblies of random models from different forces thrown together.

That was possibly me on the 6+ months? It was from the Retribution seminar IIRC? Well they said it to a big crowd but I think I've posted that number once or twice. I think Tony actually said 6 to 12 months. Anyway they're bringing the Contemptor into CAD so it'll be a long while before we see new Contemptor variants, which may or may not include an official Cortus model.

I didn't ask if the Thousand Sons Contemptor was done in CAD or not; if not, it's probably the last of the non-CAD Contemptors we'll see. Otherwise we've already seen the end of them unless they've held some things back (admittedly very likely).

Yeah the bundles have been disappointing for a while sad.png

For my third and final point, I'll go back to being positive. Book VI is actually my favourite book in the Heresy series so far, and considering this originally felt like a Conquest-style 'filler' book that didn't introduce any new Legions (in full, with background, units and characters) and didn't cover any majorly known engagements, it's one of the most interesting and transformative books out there.

  • Formalising rulesets for Blackshields, Shattered Legions, Armies of Dark Compliance, etc, shows that ForgeWorld are not only understand the grey areas that a series like this can take, and are actively encouraging you to embrace this way of thinking. I've seen so many blogs of people doing armies around the Shattered Legions, or Loyalist Traitors and vice-versa - well here are some official rules for you to go do it. I've actually now started thinking about adapting my Word Bearers force to be a Shadow Crusade force with some World Eater elements (sporting the new Red and White livery).
  • New rites of war for all Legions and generic Astartes forces breathes new life into some stale forces. I've actually loved the idea of having a RoW allowing Dreadnought and Contemptor talons as troops (some of the drawbacks are a bit harsh, we'll see), and as a result picked up both of the new Techmarine models to go alongside the Apothecaries I already have to enable it. There's a lot of different play styles now, leading to some fun and fluffy armies.
  • Plot points are now moving in a post Isstvan direction, and some look like to bear decent fruit. I love the Xana Incursion incident, and can't wait to see how the Dark Mechanicum are going to develop.

In short - if you're into the Heresy system then this book is almost a must.

Ironically the Contemptor Cortus bundle does save you money. Standalone body is £33 plus two weapons for £9.50 each brings each one to £52, and a trio to £156. That's an £11 / 7% saving - but I'd actually want different weapons :(

Just want to chime in and say that there is an updated LACAL book coming. I would avoid the first bundle as you will have a paperweight sometime later this year if you buy it (I don't know the timeline on it, but we know for sure its coming).

For the updated Campaign book don't expect anything for at least a month.

I agree on the weapon options: Why a Conversion Beamer and Heavy Bolter of all weapons?

I'd preferred an "Artillery Dreadnought Talon" That had 3 Conversion Beamers to this.

The Heavy Bolter is pretty much never taken out of a few showpieces I've seen. Its cool for varieties sake but its rarely taken; why not push the Volkite Culverin by putting that into the bundle instead?

At least this saves you money, I guess. If you've got some spare arms lying around this would be a decent one to get.

hahah I didn't even look until you said that but... a conversion beamer?? on the Contemptor that can get bonuses to running and moving? oh ForgeWorld...

actually I guess it's much cheaper access to a HCB that's firing a large blast anyway so never mind the BS hit. Carry on FW.

ugh but no claws for grav/plas blaster fists. nope.
