The rough with the smooth - HH Audiobook 'Raptor'

As I'm building a 'Raptor' 30k squad I downloaded the latest Gaven Guard (Should that be 'Raven Gav'?) Audio for nuggets of inspiration. I found it surprisingly enjoyable, and would recommend it to any and all with an interest in HH RG.

The good

-'We take the rough with the smooth' - unofficial raptor motto, 'smooths' are clean brothers, 'roughs' are mutated ones.

-Hevar Nef and a few other Raptors characters are developed.

-'Practicalities' of Raptors are developed. By that I mean what armour they wear (Mk VI almost exclusively assigned to Raptors, apparently), what adjustments are made by techmarines (Nef has a Mk II/MkIII hybrid with a terminator helm, with gauntlets rigged to let through his natural claws), what degree of deformity is acceptable (Nef can't operate a bolter). That's what I was looking for primarily from a modelling point of view, and there's heaps of readily usable pieces to model.

-The space wolves 'minders' sent by Russ and Malcador to chaperon Corax spent 5 years looking for him but couldn't find him ('He's a wily one, your Primarch')

-The 'no gamble, mission first' coldly reasonable RG attitude is darker, but remains true to RG 'mindset'.

-The plot twists and turns, the outcome is not predictable.

-A long standing Raven Guard plotseed from Index Astartes, 'the Saga of the Weregeld', gets a dusting off (cynics will say Wulfen release related)

The Bad

- a bit expensive, £9.99 is a bit steep, maybe wait till it makes its way into an anthology if you're not too desperate to learn about the inner workings of the RG

The Ugly

-Voice acting is a bit cringeworthy... The spacewolf commander sounds (and acts) like a cross between the mad cosmonaut in Armageddon and FPS Russia; 'facially deformed' raptors are very caricatural. 'Smooths' are also straight from Eastenders.

Overall, more (much more) good than bad

Thank you for the summarized review. Its one of the couple RG audio dramas I don't have and I will be getting it this weekend :)

And I've come to like the character of Hevar Nef from other Raven Guard novellas I've read.
