R_F_D
Looks like BL are releasing the following audio books as e-shorts this week http://www.blacklibrary.com/quick-reads-week Templar by John French Stratagem by Nick Kyme Master of the First by Gav Thorpe The Long Night by Aaron Dembski-Bowden The Herald of Sanguinius by Andy Smillie Iron Corpses by David Annandale The Watcher by C Z Dunn I had a quick search on the BL site and I don't think these have appeared in prose before? Are there any in particular I should look out for? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/319574-new-hh-e-books/ Share on other sites
Sandlemad
Templar is great, Sigismund fighting on Halley's Comet. The action is well written - part of the story consists of flashbacks to his duels with other legions' champions - but it's mostly a character piece for Sigismund, really gets in his head. Tymell
Templar and Iron Corpses are my own favourites from those, Templar as above, a character piece for Sigismund, and Iron Corpses showing the brutal determination of an Iron Warrior on Tallarn. The Watcher, The Long Night and Master of the First are also decent, showing a Space Wolf from a watch-pack arriving back at Sol, Sevatar being held by the Dark Angels and more of the struggle on Caliban, respectively. Stratagem and Herald of Sanguinius weren't great, but weren't awful either. Both mostly just too short and sudden in the telling of some further events within Imperium Secundus. Brilliant, thanks! I think I remember reading a lot of positive stuff about Templar but as audios aren't my thing, I couldn't really take advantage. Glad BL are converting them into prose although I'm full prepared for it to be released again in say book 44 .... but that's a whole different thread. Was Iron Corpses released with a second audio story? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/319574-new-hh-e-books/#findComment-4314941 Share on other sites
Mellow
Won't BL just publish another Novella which has all of these quick reads in it? It would make it easier to catch up on these without splashing money out needlessly. R_F_D
Tbh I'd rather have a numbered book than a novella but there is a consistent track record of novellas being produced and then combined in a numbered book further on down the line. Plus I fall for the novella every time. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/319574-new-hh-e-books/#findComment-4315240 Share on other sites

With the exception of the 7 from this week, I can't think of many that haven't been included in either Legacies of Betrayal or War Without End. Could be wrong though. DarkChaplain
Just the Knights Errant & Malcador stories, which will likely all be in the upcoming anthology. These stories here might end up in Eye of Terra, though. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/319574-new-hh-e-books/#findComment-4315319 Share on other sites

There are still quite a few more not released within the numbered series (including those K-E/Malcador stories at the bottom): The Wolf of Ash and Fire Brotherhood of the Moon The Final Compliance of 63-14 Vorax Distant Echoes of Old Night Inheritor Ironfire Sins of the Father The Value of Fear Raptor The Eagle's Talon The Dark Between the Stars Red-Marked Tallarn: Witness The Shadowmasters Child of Night Lost Sons (not strictly a Knight-Errant story, I know, but there is one in it, and it does involve Malcador) Grey Angel Luna Mendax Garro: Oath of Moment Garro: Legion of One Burden of Duty Garro: Shield of Lies Garro: Ashes of Fealty Garro: Sword of Truth The Sigillite Wolf Hunt Army of One Ghosts Speak Not Patience The Gates of Terra Plus the 7 listed in this thread, plus the 9 stories within the Meduson anthology, and most of the novellas. That said, according to info from the weekender we're due to be getting Eye of Terra, The Silent War and Warrior of Fate, and quite a few of the above would fit well into those. Well I stand corrected..... cheers Tymell! From recollection the Silent War is the KE books, Warrior of Fate is Garro novel but is there any indication was to what Eye of Terra is about? I assume BL will look to publish a combined Tallern numbered book. I do wonder how they'll ultimately present the other novellas though, felt the inclusion of Brotherhood of the Storm in Legacies of Betrayal unbalanced it by making it top heavy. Mellow
I'm not complaining at there being short stories. I just prefer novellas of the short stories so I don't make the mistake of paying twice. The Wolf of Ash and Fire will be in Eye of Terra, it is the cover art after all. Likewise I'm counting on The Gates of Terra to probably be in that. As stated above, Tallarn will likely be its own thing, so I'd put Iron Corpses and The Eagle's Talon into that along with Witness and the novella and short novel. The Corax novellas seem to be getting a third one to round it off, and I guess all three will be collected together with the other RG stories. The Shadowmasters was actually in print with Soulforge or Ravenlord originally. So that'd remove The Shadowmasters, The Value of Fear and Raptor from the list. Red-Marked and The Dark Between the Stars are way too new to be collected at any point soon. Meduson is in the process of being re-released as audio dramas (with so far few cuts from the prose) and won't be reprinted for a while yet. I'd consider The Purge for the Eye of Terra anthology, due to plot relevance and connection to Templar. Distant Echoes of Old Night will likely be with The Silent War too, since it includes a Knight Errant of its own. Tymell
The Silent War is the KE books? What does that mean? Knight Errant? As far as we know this will be a novel due later this year. From the weekender info I recall The Silent War is an anthology, with a probable focus on Malcador/his Chosen/Knights-Errant. There was also a Garro book mentioned, Warrior/Weapon of Fate (I've seen both titles used), which I believe is supposed to collect the Garro stories. There may also be a Garro novel on the way separately, but that seems a bit more vague. Taliesin
I haven't heard anything about it being an anthology, that is to say, it's not been reported anywhere. In the Art of the Heresy seminar it was listed as one of the 3 forthcoming novels. DarkChaplain
They list anything as a novel nowadays. Even Age of Sigmar's three-novella-anthologies or Call of Archaon, which is literally 8 short stories by four different authors. The Silent War was spoken of as an anthology even years ago when it was first named as being a thing. Taliesin
Well that is true. Ok so probably an anthology then, that must be why there is not one specific author mentioned in relation to it. You're correct, they were two audios and like many of the recent audio releases were paired up to add a CD for sale. Looking back before tha though Amazon would have the cover art and was a but misleading as to what these titles actually were, though that's to be expected just by the way they operate. HeritorA
'Silent War' and 'Eye of Terra' smells like another bunch of anthology reprints. Sad, could have been a new story. Seems the new actual book would be a 'Path to Heaven' in April.
