Post your Deathwatch

Prior to the recent ETL I was nearing completion on a series of DeathWatch teams and command section.  Now that the ETL is ending, I am looking to return to these warriors and apply some finishing touches.

Watch Captain, Librarian and Techmarine are ready for shading and highlinght colors.  I tried inking the librarians banner, but the results were poor.

Tactical team with a Multi Melta heavy weapon.  A Storm Shield provides cover if these brothers recieve direct fire.

A second tactical team with Multi Melta.

Close combat team with a mixture of Thunder Hammers and Power fists.

Chaplain leading a team of Jump pack troops armed with a mix of close combat and ranged weapons.

I am excited for all the new Deathwatch material being released.  The new sprues available look great and I want to use the more detailed shoulder pads to indicate team leaders and venerated commanders.  I also ordered a set of Terminator shoulderpads from Pop goes the Monkey on shapeways.  So much Deathwatch goodness!

I also hope the mods here setup a Deathwatch subforum soon.  That would make me very happy.

Some inspiring examples of Deathwatch here!  Since it was a nice day yesterday, I thought I'd grab my camera and take a few photos of my DW.

I came up with these well before I knew about the recent DW releases (although I have since added the Chaplain from DW:Overkill), just intending to use them as an allied marine detachment for my main chapter.  The fluff for them is that they are all Blackshields assigned to a mysterious remote Watch Station at the behest of a sinister Ordo Xenos Inquisitor:

...and here's the WIP librarian from DW:O, with some minor conversion work:

Superb painting skills there, very nice.

I wanted to do something similar with the Overkill BR librarian, as his backpack is too plain - where did you get that book for the backpack?

Cheers

Thanks Cyrox!  The backpack book is actually from the BA Terminator Librarian.  I clipped the angel off, filed the back cover down, replaced the rods holding it up and sculpted a spine.  I think the small skulls are from SM bike aerials.  To be honest, I'd probably use something else if I had to do it again, it was way too much effort for something like this.  Still, I think it looks the part now...

@Max Sigmund: Pardon me brother, but how hard was it to fit that helmeted head on the Overkill Librarian? I've been considering a similiar conversion myself but don't want to start hacking out the bare head only to find my replacement won't fit, ya'know?

@SanguiniusReborn: It was a little tricky, I had to carve off the base of the helmet, particularly around the back and the raised bits on the side (I think you can see on the photo).  I'm reasonably happy with how it looks, although he seems to have a rather short neck.  Best approach would be to shave a helmet to fit then use putty to repair any visible damage.  Hope that helps!

This is something I did on my DW:OK Librarian as well, although I shaved the vent/crest off the top so it would sit a little higher from the chest. Needed to trim off a fair bit from the back and the bits on the sides, as Max mentioned. All in all it's straightforward, just a little fiddly.

Dammit, wish I'd thought of that!  Looks good the way you've done it Halandaar, nice job!
