Land Raider Proteus vs photos for Pyroclasts

So I really enjoy playing with my pyroclasts but hate that they can only take land raider transports, which to this point has always been a phobos with ceramite and dozer blade for 275pts.

The thought crossed my mind that saving 50pts for the proteus could be a viable option, as they aren't really an assault unit anyway, and wall of death overwatch essentially would let me shoot twice against a counter charge.

I thought if simply using as a transport, the proteus could be a better option for the pyroclasts. Does anyone have any experience with the proteus's good or bad?

The proteus occupies a bit of an odd spot. Land raiders are probs a little over priced as far as things go. However theyre definitely useable and theme-y as hell.

I'll admit I steer clear of them since I'm all 12th legion. However, I've seen them used pretty darn well for seeker squads and tactical support squads armed with combo-plasmas and meltas respectively. Both of these seem like they fulfill a similar close fire-support role to the pyroclasts. The AV14 is great for keeping them snug and much safer than a rhino, but won't draw as much fire as a Spartan as long as you have good target saturation in your list.

Proteus is awesome for Pyroclasts!!!

Though it does get more expensive, I'd without a doubt toss the explorator augury on it to get scout and reserve manipulations. Since your guys use flamer templates, scouting up 12" then being within flamer range T1 is a terrifying thing.

I believe if you use the Sally RoW (not overly familiar) that you get a 5++ against meltas and other weapons on the Proteus. Therefore saving you points for armored ceramite :)

I don't see why you'd ever use a phobos for pyroclasts, it's not an assault unit so clearly doesn't need an assault vehicle transport. Safe yourself the 50pts and take a proetus, or give the proteus scout to get in flamer range faster.

I hadn't noticed the augery, that could come in handy. My current setup would Be:

7 Pyroclasts: Pyroclast Warden (power fist); 6 Pyroclasts; melta bombs 250

• Land Raider Proteus: dozer blade 205

455 points

With the Covenant of Fire to get 5++ melta save, that should keep them cheap enough to stay viable. A Spartan with Vulkan in it should help keep the fire off of it. And the model looks sweet.

Augury is defo worth the 50 points. Sure the unit will be a high priority, but you're going to have a unit of firedrakes too (you are playing sallies right? :P) that will be #1 priority.

Unless you're playing on a poker table, you should be able to get some form of cover or LoS blocking terrain. Plus you'll have two TL lascannons likely on side armor from the proteus.
