My sisters army

Hi everyone,

This is a post about my current sisters army and my journey to getting it completed and on the tabletop.

I have been playing warhammer 40k since 5th edition and during that time i have collected and played with a few different armies; Tau, Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Dark Eldar. I never managed to 100% collect, build and paint any of these armies and in my attempt to get these on the tabletop i burnt myself out on the hobby and essentially threw in the towel with anything miniature related.

Sisters was an army that i started collecting because i liked their fluff, gothic aesthetic and the fact that they seemed to be the army that no one played(i like rare or unwanted things). I started buying second hand Sisters models whenever i found a good deal and bought blisters on occasion. I built up quite a large collection of sisters but when i burnt out on the hobby and had enough of 40k i boxed everything up and stored it away.

So this is where I get to the present, I have decided that I cannot keep my Sisters army in a box indefinitely and that I want to complete my army and have it fully painted. I pulled out my collection today to see exactly what I have.

85 x Bolters

10 x Storm Bolters

19 x Flamers

8  x meltguns

19 x Repentia

12 x Heavy Bolters

6 x Multimeltas

4 x Heavy Flamers

9 x Serphim w/bolt pistols

2 x Seraphim w/hand flamers

1 x Seraphim w/inferno pistols

6 x sister superior w/chainsword, plasma pistol

3 x sister superior w/powersword, Bolter

1 x sister superior w/power maul, Bolter

I also have 3 x Penitient engines(not shown)

As you can see in the pictures I also have some Inquisitors and Retinue, a priest, 2x Hospitaller, Dialgous, banner bearers and Simulacrum Imperialis. I do have all the missing parts for the saints and Canoness.

In terms of Armour, I have the 4 Rhino chasis, these will become -

2 x  Immolater (I have two kits which are recast)

1 x Exorcist (FW kit)

1 x Rhino with FW Sister doors

When i was building and collecting my armies over the years i never really enjoyed painting miniatures so for my sisters army I have decided to have it commission painted. The more models I have the greater the cost to have the army painted. I obviously have a lot of unnecessary surplus so I was wanting some community input into how many of the models i should keep to be able to field a 2000pt army with options? Do i really need 86 Bolter girls or 19 Repentia?

Some of you might say "why not keep them and have them all painted?". Well I really don't want to have more models than what's needed. I also want to add a couple more models to round out the collection eg Exorcist(organ tank), more priests, Rhino's.

I'll be updating this post as work progresses on getting the army ready to be painted. I am pretty busy these days so I cannot guarantee fast progress but I do want this ready to be painted within the next few months.

Thanks for having a look

Another Sacred Rose player I see! :) Though your Avatar had me momentarily confused with Dosjetka :P

Are the Penitent Engines not shown as they are not assembled yet by any chance...? ;)

In regards to your army you'll want a majority of what infantry you have I expect, the rest depends on what you want to do with the army. You'd be surprised how quickly the total of Bolter Sisters adds up for example. Even without further information of what you want to do I doubt you'll need all 19 Repentia. I'm not a fan of Stormbolter Sisters personally and you probably won't want so many Heavy Bolters.

To answer the OP's original question, I run a mech heavy list (lots of exorcists, rhinos, immolators, etc) but at 1850pts I have:

25 bolter sisters

3 flamers

3 heavy flamers

5 Superiors

10 meltaguns

3 exo's

3 Immolators/rhinos (it's the same kit, just uses different hatches)

1 Knight

Looking at your collection, for 2000pts I'd aim to get the folllowing models painted:

40-50 bolter sisters

5-8 flamers

8 meltaguns

5 Heavy Bolters

4 Heavy Flamers

6-8 Bolt Pistol Seraphim

2 Hand Flamer Seraphim

5-7 Superiors (start with the bolters, then get the others done.  I only have PP Superiors but they're all counts as bolter)

Priest

Cannoness

2 Immo

1 Exorcist

1 Rhino

If you're looking at picking up more vehicles you can cut down on the amount of bolter girls required.  But definitely focus on getting those flamers/meltas/HF's done.  They are by far the models you'll use the most.

Cheers!

Given your model collection, here is what I would build at 2000 points:

HQ -

Celestine

Elites -

10x Repentia

Fast -

5x Dominions with 4 meltaguns, superior has Plasma pistol

Immolator with Multimelta and dozer blade

5x Dominions with 4 meltaguns, superior has Plasma pistol

Immolator with Multimelta and dozer blade

10x Seraphim with 4x hand flamers, superior with power sword

Heavy Support -

3x Penitent Engines

Exorcist

10x Retributors with 4x Heavy Bolters, simulacrum imperialis and stormbolter on superior

Troops -
10x Battle Sisters with flamer, heavy flamer, sister superior with power maul and bolt pistol
    Rhino with dozer blade
5x Sisters with 2x storm bolters, heavy bolter
5x Sisters with 2x storm bolters, heavy bolter
5x Sisters with 2x storm bolters, heavy bolter
5x Sisters with 2x storm bolters, heavy bolter

5x sisters with storm bolter, heavy bolter, superior with power sword

=1999 points

Tactics:

This list probably plays better defensively, but combine all of your ranged shooting on one part of the enemy army at a time, preferably on one side of the board.  The sisters in the Rhino, Celestine, the seraphim and the dominions all move forward to take out key threats for the rest of your army to focus down.  Eliminate the enemy on one side so that you are free to move around as you like, whilst the opponent moves in on the other side in retaliation... this is where you put your Repentia and Penitent Engines to shore up your defense and work as counter assault.

In maelstrom missions you have a lot of multiple small units to secure objectives so you would probably want to play more aggresively and park a sister squad on each one.

I will say that if you acquired more transports, you could make a flamer heavy list which would play very differently, but honestly, this should work :p

Hope this helps!

5x Sisters with 2x storm bolters, heavy bolter

5x Sisters with 2x storm bolters, heavy bolter

5x Sisters with 2x storm bolters, heavy bolter

5x Sisters with 2x storm bolters, heavy bolter

I like it too. I never considered giving a sister superior a storm bolter for an additional special weapon in the squad.

edit: clairity

Bringing stuff out of storage has always been fun for me, and it looks like you have a great collection to get excited about.

The 2,000 point list I would build is:

HQ: 460

St Celestine

Canoness with Mantle of Ophelia, rosarius, evicerator (use nice looking superior, I like the one with the maul personally)

Celestine Command Squad, hospitaller, two heavy flamers, two power sword, two melta bombs, in rhino with dozer blade, laud hailer

Troops: 436

SoB x7, flamer, multimelta, superior with melta bombs & storm bolter (due to T3 I find beefing up squad size a bit helps with survival)

SoB x7, flamer, multimelta, superior with melta bombs & storm bolter (still lots of MSU to spread out, board control, and deny deep strikes a bit)

SoB x7, flamer, multimelta, superior with melta bombs & storm bolter

SoB x7, flamer, multimelta, superior with melta bombs & storm bolter

Fast Attack: 566

Dominions x6, x4 meltaguns, superior with melta bombs & combi-plasma storm bolter, in an immolator (MM) with dozer blade & laud hailer

Dominions x6, x4 meltaguns, superior with melta bombs & combi-plasma storm bolter, in an immolator (MM) with dozer blade & laud hailer

Seraphim x10, 2 sets of dual hand flamers, veteran UG with melta bombs & power sword (nm this part, I see you don't have one) (deep strike & harass)

Heavy Support: 538

Exorcist with storm bolter (park in back, 48" of raining doom)

Penitent squad (x3) (march up a flank, kill everything)

Retributors x9 with four heavy bolters, veteran sister superior with melta bombs & storm bolter

That should allow you to cover almost all bases. Lots of melta bombs fill in extra points (and in my meta are required with all the Knights and vehicles). Reading all of the above on storm bolters for superiors is great too, though I left in a few places what I prefer as a guide for modeling or kit-bashing some extra bolter-girls into combi-weapons. The laud hailers get your Acts of Faith off more readily, and the storm bolter on the exorcist gives it a 50/50 chance of keeping the main organ-gun should it take a hit. Lots of decently sized MSU with the multimelta to set-up some hurt when they get to where they are going and dig in, or need to melta something out as needed.

So, take my list and @Namine's and add your own feelings, cross all the similarly chosen models, and there you go! Pick those for the painting and you should be all set.

Best of luck.

Edit #2: I had a blast doing this, so even if you disregard it all, thank you. Got a great feeling of going back to Adepta roots making a list w/o some of my go-to heavy hitters (IK Paladin, Vindicare Assassin).
