SlangWhanger
Hi all, i need a bit of help finding the right colour to help speed up my painting process.I'm looking for a spray colour that is slightly darker than Mephiston Red but similar enough in tone. I don't mind which brand (as long as it is not more expensive than GW!).Thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/321545-the-right-spray-can-red-colour/ Share on other sites
GalaxyChief
Maybe do a test mini using black primer as an undercoat. This will darken it a touch. White primer will make it brighter. Grey primer is ideal for painting under red. Razblood
Army Painter - Dragon Red seem like it might offer what you are looking for. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/321545-the-right-spray-can-red-colour/#findComment-4369462 Share on other sites
SlangWhanger
Thanks both. Looking at Dragon Red I think it is just right. I'll probably only do one or two layers over a black undercoat to keep it dark (i've heard it takes 3-4 coats to get the solid colour?). Guiltysparc
I use Khorne red. I didn't like the AP Dragon red as it has a bit of a glossy finish which made applying the metalics on my KDK armor trim a little annoying. Its not super glossy but more glossy than the GW sprays. I am not sure about your process but for mine, it doesn't matter which red i used, the final result is the same. I do a whole model wash and then paint it back up with the base coat color on a brush. The benefit of doing the base spray in red means i only need one, thin layer to bring it back up. I did my KDK army using mephiston red on top of mephiston spray, khorne spray, and AP Dragon Red, and they all look the same.
