Amazingly fast work on that pseudo-Sanguinor and a solid follow up! Wish I could paint that quickly blush.png

First (ever) EtL Vow complete!

Here comes vow number two!

I, Slothysaur, rise to the challenge of E TENEBRAE LUX V and vow to complete one Blood Angels Captain armed with a Power Fist, Lightning Claw, Artificer Armour, and a Jump Pack (worth 165 points) on or before August 15th, 2016. Success will bring eternal glory to ETL Faction Blood Angels and failure will doom me to bear the Badge of the Oathbreaker until my vow is complete.

Edit: corrected points values

Congratulations on your first ever completion! Looking forward to vow #2!

Still a fan Aub wub.gif Do you have anything lined up for a second vow?

Vow 2 complete!

... and another lightning quick vow! I guess I should stop batch painting... Did you know there's a long-running Dreadnought thread in the Hall of Honour that would enjoy this.

Up for more? Loads of time left!

Thanks everyone!  I am really proud of it.  I'll definitely be vowing again, I just need to figure out just what I should do next.  I think I'll go a little bigger this time and aim for something in the 300 point range.  I will check out that dreadnought Hall of Honour thread.  Thanks for thinking it is worthy of posting there!

And let’s see each Faction one by one:

BLOOD ANGELS

The Blood Angels did some serious recruiting in the past week, boosting their participant numbers north of 40. You don’t need me to tell you though that this week’s recruitment effort is beyond crucial! The average vow is virtually the lowest of the ETL and the re-vowing rate of 15% is significant but not enough to keep up with your immediate rivals. The completion rate of 10.7% is below the average of the ETL but i) it is not that low and ii) this may change abruptly at this stage – even within the span of a week… But, like in every other faction, the recruitment effort of this week is crucial! And larger vows won’t hurt either.

As you can see, we're getting better but there's still work to do folks!

Nine days remain to get on the BA ETL train!

Thx for the Probs.

Wanna finish those Termis today.

My secret. Quick and dirty. In the time i paint 6 Terms my gf painted one tyranid warrior´s chitin.

But she shines with the better results.

Why she did not paint my minis for the vow? She don´t like Marines. ^^#

I'm definitely stealing the force halberd/fist idea!

I, LutherMax, rise to the challenge of E TENEBRAE LUX and vow to complete Commander Dante from Codex Blood Angels of total value 220 points, on or before August 15th, 2016. Success will bring eternal glory to the Blood Angels and failure will doom me to bear the Badge of the Oathbreaker until the year-end.

Can't argue with the efficiency on points to model ratio ;) When this is complete are you considering a subsequent vow?

Progress on Dante has been slow due to RL issues, but as to a second vow, I'm not only considering it, but planning it ;)

Certainly looks like the shading shows through but the trick you are going for probably requires a much less opaque red to work better.. What red did you use for the basecoat? Please don't say Mephiston Red, that's very opaque..

It's Vallejo Gory Red, one coat which was very thin, and looked pink on the white undercoat, so I hit it with a couple of thicker layers. You think I hit it too much?

It'll have to do for this one as we're against the clock, but it's useful feedback for the rest.

EDC

I can't be sure, I'm not familiar with VGC paints at all, only used some VEO paints..  I'd say it kind of covered the undercoat a bit too well though, maybe one layer thinner would have been better.  I mean, it looks good, but a thinner red would have allowed the shading and the whites to show better, maybe?

I agree with appiah, a more transparent red is what you need. Badger do a thing called Ghost Tints which could work - they're glossy though so would need a dull coat afterwards... A bit late for this but grey rather than white primer (and maybe more black shading) could also help as the red wouldn't look so pink over it and you could use less coats.

As you said though EDC I think shading washes and highlights will work to increase the contrast.

Yeah it's all part of the learning curve. At worst I'll just have an inconsistent looking army...

I don't know about anyone else but I go through phasing lf not liking how a model looks when I'm working on it it. At the moment my biggest concern is that mu models look pink with orange highlights rather than red :/

Hopefully it'll be alright in the end .

EDC

Pink models with orange highlights is a definite sign of using a wrong kind of basecoat red for the kind of painting you are trying to do. You are probably using a light pigmented and semi-opaque red, the kind I like working with as well. The problem with these is that over white and even on grey they look pinkish, so you need either a couple solid coats, or other tricks to make them pop. You probably went for a couple of solid coats, and ended up obscuring the preshading a bit. Me, I personally go for glazes. I use watered down Baal Red Washes after all the shading is done to bring the color up to a rich red. The current GW red Wash (whatever it's called) won't do this, it's too dark. Fortunately, they now have a quality red glaze you can try instead of another coat of paint.

I don't know if glazes work with airbrushes at all, that's for someone else to answer. But my personal advice: Use less coats of paint to make sure your preshades are showing, then glaze so you have a good rich red, then highlight sparingly to oranges.

As Appiah says, it's all about the glazes to bring it to the shade you like! Try thin coats Bloodletter over the top to deepen the red and take off the pink edge.

I've made good progess but sadly I'm not going to complete my vow before I go away for nearly a week soon. Still, here is another WIP shot. Can't wait to unleash him on the table!

What reds did you use? They look great, I need to know for potential reasons...

Cheers! For the ribbed bits and torso I did Khorne Red Base, Mephiston Red layer then I gave it a good coat of Carroburg Crimson. The robe was only a Khorne Red base with edge highlights done with Mephiston Red, then Carroburg Crimson. The few bits of armour are just Khorne Red base and Mephiston Red layer. I think that covers all the red!

8 Units vowed, 3 complete, and the remaining 5 underway. Must up pace.

I mean - mine are black... Which to be fair is 75% of my models technically done... tongue.png

Maybe I should keep resting? cool.png

Not if you want to cede the Forum Champion title to someone else... msn-wink.gif
