Dramatics aside, I didn't get much painting done last night as I went to the monthly tiered x wing tournament at my club. Basically last month I was relegated to league 2, and I was planning on taking a break to focus on my ETL vow, but since the end is in sight I figured I'd head down and try to win some pride back.

 

As it turns out I won all 3 of my games and got promoted back to the top league, so I was quite pleased.

 

Don't panic though, I'll be done soon.

I basically do this, but since I have no airbrush I just do a lot of layering and blending instead.  One difference is that I leave shorter bands of lighter shades, and longer bands of the midtones and darkarker shades.  This makes the transition more effective and the contrast better, I find.

*Phew*. Well I did it. Initially I was hoping to get more vows in, then I was worried I wouldn't complete this one, but I made it and with days to spare! (No, I will not be doing another vow at this stage!)

 

 

So, some thoughts and reflections...

 

 

I had a backlog of lovely BA stuff, which whilst not 'optimised' for gaming purposes I still wanted to get done and what better time than the ETL to make a dent in that backlog? Totalling up the points it came to near 3k, with a few upgrades and jigging (storm bolters and HK missiles on all the tanks!) I hit 3k on the nose.

 

 

This is only my second ETL, last year 'all' I completed was 5 scouts, 5 stern guard and Karlaen, so it felt good to be delivering a significant contribution to the forum, especially as the point/model ratio was so much better. However, one take home from this is 'Never again!' on the 3k vow. Whilst I'm happy with the tabletop standard, I know I can do better (just look at my ETL completions from last year) and the perfectionist in me will probably go back and touch these up. However it did feel good to take on a significant painting challenge.

 

Obviously I don't mean I won't do another ETL, it is a great idea and really helps get stuff done. Next year I might go for 5 smaller vows...

 

Anywho, I'm looking forward to seeing the results on Monday!
