ETL Update...

 

Closing in on the finish line. I skipped updating last week due to life getting in the way and not feeling as though I had enough completed to warrant one. The good news is, I've completed the Volkite Caliver Support Squad and also 3 of the 10 Melta Gunners, which means I'm 7 Melta Gunners away from completing my ETL vow! There's a few things here and there I'd like to touch up on these guys or add some shading to, but for the sake of completing my vow, they're done. I'll have plenty of time to nitpick after I've succeeded. So here you go...

The progress is substantial and the quality outstanding! Updating this forum is always a pleasure!

Now the progress you made means that your completion rate is effectively 40%. Not bad but by now that's the ETL average. Now Chaos has almost 50% completion rate. I know the last couple of weeks will see an acceleration in the completions but at the moment, in absolute terms, Chaos has as many points completed you guys do. The trick for you is first vow completions! Out or 134kpts pledged, 99k are first vows. And there you have a completion rate of 35%. So complete your first vows because the re-vowing effort alone, frantic as it may be, cannot carry the day! It doesn't matter if your vow is small, everything counts at this stage, everything is important. So let's see how this week will progress. Suffice to say that, if you raise your completion rate in a significant fashion, you'll be uncontested at the top!

I'm now in possession of something like 750 points of Terminators in need of painting up (both Tyrants and vanilla) but I'm super reluctant to commit any portion of them given that it took me the best part of two months to finally finish these guys. I'll give it some thought, but that's probably my part in the ETL done.

Stripping (tee hee) on the Reaver complete. Probably the least fun I've had in this hobby in over 20 years. The way I see it, however, is best to do it right whatever the cost now, rather than to bring something to the table I'm not happy with just to say I did it, and then strip it after this show's over.

quick update, here is proof i am actually painting,I have finished watching Longmire so i have no excuse to simply paint full on for the next few nights

Here's how the FW Iron Hands figures were painted.

 

IRON HANDS COLOUR SCHEME

1. Undercoat the model with GW black undercoat spray

2. Drybrush layers of Rub and Buff Pewter to blend up from black to silver with the silver parts being the most raised areas.

3. A small amount of Tamiya Clear Yellow was added to Tamaiya Smoke and this was airbrushed over the whole model and the model was then left to dry.

4. GW Druchi Violet was then airbrushed over the model in random patches.

5.  Tamaiya Clear Green was then airbrushed in patches over the previous two colours.

6. The whole model was airbrushed with a layer of thinned down Tamaiya Smoke and the model was then left to dry.

7. The model was then protected with a coating of GW Purity Seal.

 

It's not all that simple, but you can make it simpler if you want to go for that dark metal look with the other colors showing through. What I would suggest is:

 

1) Base coat with black paint of your choice

2) Drybrush lightly with Boltgun (or whatever the replacement name is now for their darkest silver color), but don't go overboard - we're not doing Iron Warriors.

3) Tint random parts of the Boltgun with purple, yellow, and green inks or washes. Thin them down a good deal so it will be easier to control how much color goes on.

4) Drybrush raised areas and edges with Boltgun.

5) Wash entire model with a dark color - I'd suggest a 50/50 brown black mix.

6) Profit.

The Knight obviously still needs some transfers, but after my previous, spilled-Micro-Sol disaster, I don't have any House Griffith ones left, so for the purposes of the ETL, he's complete.

Vow 3 incoming later today when I've had a chance to find and unpack the rest of my stuff. Keep pushing guys. We can still win this thing!

Awesome thank you BCK That's exactly what I was trying to figure out. I'd seen the FW recipe but I lack an airbrush and rub n buff however I have everything in your recipe. So that means a certain tenth legion praetor is gonna get some paint tonight. And for that you have my gratitude.
