DuskRaider Posted December 20, 2016 Author Share Posted December 20, 2016 So here's a photo of what I'm doing with my Mk. III Marines. As you can see, the Mk. III ablative plate is painted in the crimson scheme of my Word Bearers, but the Mk. II armour beneath will remain steel. This will be darkened and blackened, similar to my Chaplains / Command Squad. I've seen others do it and I really liked it, so this is my take on the idea. Their belts and boots remain crimson. This also shows the slight variance in the Breacher's scheme as well, with a full crimson helm and power cell vents. I want to ensure there's still plenty of red on these guys, especially due to having a large amount of their armour steel. It also gives the feel that this new red scheme was added to existing suits instead of creating new sets with their coloration, which would make sense considering it's Mk. III and older than the current armour. I bought up a ton of those segmented Mk. II helms, I was going to use them for Mk. II Breachers in a Dusk Raiders ZM force, but decided screw it and used them with my Word Bearers instead. Svartmetall Posted December 21, 2016 Share Posted December 21, 2016 Really liking the way you have the bare metal showing beneath the red-painted plate; it makes the whole armour set look more real and nuanced, if you know what I mean; like something mechanically real. I've long had in my army's fluff a history of them having a huge run-in with a band of Word Bearers (see my latest update for more) and I reckon your lot would be worthy adversaries for my lot of Nurgle's finest/foulest (depending on your point of view) :D Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'm sure at some point these traitorous whoresons will cross paths with your Death Guard, but for now they're planning an alliance with Typhon - Not - Yet - Typhus, which will bridge my two 30K armies together. As much as I hate Erebus (and Typhon/us), they're BFFs and would make a good bridge over the otherwise massive chasm the two Legions would have with one another. Breacher Squad #1 is officially completed. They had been on the cusp of finished for a week or so, but with holidays and whatnot interfering, I never got around to doing the last details. There's still a couple little things here and there I'd like to do, but they're more or less done at this point. I tried to get shots of everything... one detail I was pleased with in particular is the triple skulls on the one Shield... the two normal skulls have the Roman numeral XIII to represent trophies from the Sons of Guilliman, but the bronzed skull is different... I looked at some of the old Chaos runes (from Rogue Trader, I believe) and found as close as I could to what I wanted... it's the rune for "Coward". I was looking for "Traitor", but alas I could not source anything. It's the skull of a fellow Word Bearer who had attempted to double cross the Legion (or at least Chapter), and was cut down. Finally, I also have pictures of what I'm working on next (other than finishing up the Lascannon Marines)... two Apothecaries I moved from my Death Guard to these guys, and two of the three Leviathans. I'll be doing them individually, as it's quite intensive laying the watered down BftBG on these behemoths. Other than some brass etch, a sacrificial body here and there and the Chapter's icon on the gun shield, I didn't do much to them. I was contemplating getting some candles to add to the hull, but I think I'll skip that. Something is bothering me with them, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Part of me thinks it's the Apothecarion pauldron on the right, it looks kinda Dark Angels-like. I was going to make the pauldron white, but thought it would look too odd. Maybe it's the vials? I'm not sure... I've also included a current pic of the Leviathan. I ended up going with white and the Apothecarion symbol in brass. I do intend to have some variations, so I'll also try black with a white symbol. I'm also contemplating making two Breacher Apothecaries (the Shields counting as Artificer Armour) to accompany my Breacher squads. That may take a little more planning, as I'll have to nab some Iron Hands heads and a couple Mk. II Apothecarion power plants. Might be worth it, though. You know, I almost did a World Eaters army as my first 30K force... all Assault Marines in Storm Eagles was my plan, decided to stick to Death Guard as I had been playing Chaos Death Guard since I started... and then I almost did a Triarii force for ZM (much like this was originally just a Word Bearers ZM army), but was swayed by the FW Word Bearers models in the end. As for the Leviathan, I've decided I will add transfers to the hull. I REALLY hate transfers. But it will be worth it. All I've got is the B@C ones, but they'll do just for the Pythagorean geometry and the scripture. I do need to order me some FW transfers soon, however. I've actually started adding transfers to my models, starting with these dudes. As of taking the pics it's only the Sergeant and Brother Pointy, but I'll be doing the whole squad tonight. I removed the top spike on the left side, I think that's what was driving me crazy. I've also been contemplating adding a few larger spikes from the Chaos vehicle sprue to the right side, to add some asymmetry to it. The bad news is they only sent me one Apothecary kit. The good news is they also sent me two Word Bearers upgrade kits and are shipping out the second Apothecary set tomorrow. Yay free stuff! In the meantime, I pieced together the second pair of Apothecaries. These guys will be accompanying the Despoilers as well. Unfortunately, no painting updates as of now, I just haven't had the time this week. I started a new job and have been pulling a ton of OT, so little time for painting. I did get the red done on Vindicator #1... it was a challenge. I've never used my scheme on something so big, and it I'm not sure I'm satisfied with the results. I'll cover up some of it with transfers, but painting extremely thinned down layers of Blood for the Blood God on such sheer angles did not make for a good time.
