Ringing on their own bells. Order of the Sacred Rose

Recommended Posts

The temptation to paraphrase (adapt?) "sisters are doing it for themselves" is quite a bit... well, there.

So ETL, miniatures needing paint, need a reason to just get it done, something tells me these can fit together.

As a bit of background I've recently started some sisters not long before the event started so I can't enter them.

ETL V prep

For my first vow I've decided on a unit of retributors with heavy bolters and another with heavy flamers both at 5 women.

The parts I'm using are 10 Dreamforge Eisenkern Valkir Heavy Troopers bodies, Forge world Mars pattern heavy bolters and Phaistos pattern heavy flamers and Statuesque Miniatures Heroic scale Female heads. So saying that...

They're going to be tall. I've got 10 headless and armless bodies with 10 weapons needing to be washed.

A repost of the before pics for vow 1.

Arms still on sprue so didn't include due to it being a boring picture.

Thanks for the positive comments.

Nearly done with the heavy flamers.

Just need basing and adding the fuel pipes, maybe adding the order symbol to a shoulder.

Heavy flamer retributors done! Half way through vow!

Will do a better photo for the vow completion post.

Problem is that the shoulders are too small for my painting to do a symbol on, so I've tried this instead,

Not too bad I think.

Now to do the heavy bolter retributors .

  • 2 weeks later...

Bit of an update.

Unfortunately work and the weather has taken a toll on the hobby this week so not done with the heavy bolterers.

The bad thing about these heavy bolters is that as the belt feed connects to the middle of the bottom of the gun rather than a bit below the right elbow like with the heavy flamers, fitting the belt has been a pain with these models.

Thank you all for the positive comments, that was my first try at the rose and being my best freehand hopefully it would get better, though no promises of being able to do an order banner.

So after a hot week the sisters decided to spend time on their backs while their bases are being done. Black the black haired sister's face needs touching up on after not being happy with the previous attempt at highlighting, and all the hairs need finishing off.

They do not look like futuristic American Football players! I kid.

Though I can agree that they look very different from Sister Sisters, It's obvious. It's just the lack of range and poses has put me off using gw sisters for the normal rank and file troopers.  Having 5 of Battle Sister with Heavy Bolter and 5 of Battle Sister with Heavy Flamer Would look a bit boring. Besides Space marine bodies with female heads would just look like female space marines and that's a no no.

These are looking cool O-Q!  They're a very different look to the GW sculpts, but they work - especially with the Heavy Bolters...  I really like the white armour too.  Once upon a time, I tried to paint a white armoured Sister... it came out OK, but there was no way I'd have the patience to do an entire army of them - much respect to you for taking on that challenge!

Apologies if I've missed it further up in the thread, but are you running these units as Command Squads?  I'm just wondering how you're getting the fifth heavy weapon in there?

@ Kiwiben. The white is a challenge and in person it really doesn't look that great and to be honest I'd rather be doing red, but I've nearly always done red. No apologies needed for missing, I messed up and mistook it that all members had access to heavy weapons (I don't know how that happened, maybe the legion heavy support squad loadout options wormed it's way in or 4 is now equal to 5). I'm going to have to change that.

No matter - you can just run them as Sororitas Command Squads, which can take 5x heavy weapons... though you lose out on the Rending AoF.  If you decide to go back and add a VSS to them later, then you've already got a couple of heavy weapons painted up to go into your troop squads.
