The Crimson Fist

Hey guys, I really like the Alexis Polux model so I thought I'd treat myself and see if I can get him painted up. I thought I'd create a log to show my progress because I generally struggle to finish anything. I added a few extra bits to the model, just little things like grenades, and an iron halo, seeing as they are part of his war gear. I was initially going to use a helm but the face is really nice, so I attached a helm to his back. I also made my own base for weathering reasons. I'll hopefully post up some paint progress latter today.

He's coming along quite nicely, Hydra. The subtle reposing works wonders for the model, and that combined with the subtle details you've added in, he looks absolutely amazing. I probably would have tried gone with a different helmet at his waist, probably MK II or III (though they probably wouldn't work as well due to the shape of the jaw,) but no one can fault that your choice still looks great! I absolutely cannot wait to see this dude finished!

I concur with Psycho. Another helmet option could've been the mk4 from the IF command set with the laurels. I love him geared up though. Very tacticool!!!

Thanks guys. The helm wasn't actually foamy forst choice. I had looked at using the Mark III helm with the laurels but it's shape didnt really work as a side piece for me. The helm is Mark III but is a little smaller then the standard, I did check though, Polux head would fit nicely inside. There's a small Templar Cross on the side, I was going to fill but I thought he must be considered a veteran so I left it. Vent decided what colour I'm going to paint the helm, I've always loved Imperial Fist with white helms, but I'm thinking red might be better.

Anyway I spent quite a few hours this afternoon, unfortunatly the pic was taken with little light. It's basically just the yellow and the black/metal areas based and washed. After work tomorrow I want to concentrate on getting the yellow finished.

I had intended to take pics through the painting process so I could get som feedback during painting however I got into the painting and just pushed through to then end. Would still love some feed back though, Im considering painting a small collection of Imperial Fists.

When I began painting I had wanted to use white on the shoulder pads and the tabard but when painting I did think it would fit the model. I originally did the laurels on the chest and shoulder pad black but that they didn't really stand out out so changed them to silver. There's no writing on the power fist scroll yet as I want to practice a bit more before I do it, I'd like to use Honorem but not sure if it will fit. The pictures don't seem to catch the blend of the yellow well, and the darker brown areas stand out a little more then I would like. Something to work on. In fact I'm tempted to go back over with a bit of yellow brown mix to help the transition in some places.

Thanks guys

Looking very nice!

How did you do the yellow? I'm about to start a small squad of Fists and your yellow looks perfect

Sure

Over your undercoat of choice (I'd suggest a lighter one, I use halfords grey) Averland Sunset, it took about 3 coats mixed 50:50 with water, to get it smooth.

Then washed with Army Painter Strong tone (Agrax earthshade would also work)

Once dry I used Averland Sunset with some gorthor brown mixed in, leaving the darker areas in the recesses.

Then Averland sunset again leaving some of the previous layer showing near the recesses of other area you want darker.

Highlight Averland Sunset mixed with Yriel yellow

Then a final highlight of Yriel yellow

To finish a very watered down wash of Seraphim Sepia, although I did this heavier around the feet or anywhere I wanted to look more worn.

Looks good, though I would argue that he needs a little bit more weathering. Of course, I weather my Fists fairly heavily, so I'm hardly unbiased, but yeah. Think he needs more weathering.

Ive not had much luck with sponge withering in the past. I did think about some metal on the edges particularly on the powerfist. I might try some weathering on future models and might come back to Polux.
