Man, these are absolutely lovely! i'm studying your GS techniques for the nurgle mutations to try to emulate some of it on my plague boys smile.png

i have been checking your entrail spilling marines and have a question, do you sculpt the guts first, then make the skin layer separate then apply the skin over the spilling guts or is it all simultaneous? i wanted to achieve more crisp details in the gut to skin flap relation part

Sorry for the delay answering - usually I do the guts first, then the surrounding flesh, yes. It takes longer but allows for much more detail, and much better delineation of texturing between guts and flesh that way.

EDIT: I could do a tutorial on sculpting guts if you wanted?

Great work as ever Svartmetall. Glad I had you on board for Squaduary.

Was glad to be part of it, mate; while I'm deeply annoyed at myself for failing to finish for the second time in one of your challenges, I got a pretty nice squad built and ready to paint up. Kudos to you for running it.

And here's the entire finished squad...

Overall pretty good and original. I like that they are not just bloated. The knee on the bottom guy has more of a world eaters- vibe to me, though...

oh yes please!

i am totally referencing your textures to make my stuff. like the tumour thing on the back of your hellbrute, that's definately going on my daemon prince's back! i mean, i hope you don't mind if i copy your idea :D

Always a pleasure to see your GS skills Svartmetall.  I still remember seeing your first steps into these fabulous creations on the Relic forums years back ( I used to have the forum nick of Daaveed back then ).  The full GS'ed Plague Bearer thing was always one of my favourites and your tropical fish themed spawn you painted up were full of character.

I was saddened to see that your inspiring thread on there stopped updating.

Your GS skill are still top notch and packed full of details and a real treat to look at.  I still struggle with gap filling, even after all of these years in the hobby :).

Cheers

A random Spawn, because - well, because Spawn. I have an unhealthy fascination with the things...

niiice spawn! i mean, nasty . like in the good chaosy way :D
good idea to use the leftover conversion bits - half mutated "i rolled badly on the boon table" chaos marine :)
I need at least one of these to sub my champions when it happens, great idea!

always looking forward to your conversions
cheers!

Beginning paint work on one of the Defilers, including trying to get a better rust recipe than I've used in the past....

More pics soon, working on the turret right now...

It took me a while to figure out what I was actually looking at regarding your latest spawn, but then I realised what goes where, and now I think it's easily one of the best spawn conversions I have seen so far: Too often, spawn ends up as just some creepy crawly monster with little or no ties to the unlucky Chaos Space Marine who must have been the source. Not so here: You really get the sense how this grotesque creature might have been an exalted champion of the gods mere moments ago -- rather chilling, really, and perfectly executed sculpting!

Heh, thanks - always nice when someone gets the idea behind a model. And if you like this one, you're gonna love some of the other Spawn that are on the way...

More paint - yes, I know I'm a desperately slow painter - and while there's still obviously a long way to go, hopefully now all the chassis' rust is done and all the ivy-like flesh is at least basecoated, you can now see where I'm going with this.
