Kelborn
Hey there, I think that a separate thread including a adequate timeline would make sense. As for now, I can't see any structured timeline or whatsoever in one of our threads. Feel free to add your stuff, I will update this first post immediately to keep it appropriate. Furthermore, I would like to ask if we have something like a sheet or an overview concerning the relations between our Primarchs / Legions? If not, I'm reflecting of creating a separate thread as well to cover this as well. Let's go! Sigismund229
The Qarith triumph is in 000M.31 when the Emperor leaves for Terra and it is our equivilent to Ullanor. The Day of Revelation is our Istvaan equivilant seeing as the traitor legions have had plenty of time to purge their ranks of loyalists over the decades. The battle of the Forge starts early in the Insurrection, so maybe around 045/046.M31 and then is a meatgrinder that ties down the Warbringer for, I believe it was 5 years. The Shadow crusade was the inital name for the Blood crusade but its now just called the Blood Crusade. It takes place mid insurrection I think so 059M.31 or some such time. Not sre how long it will last but I'd guess a couple of years. The traitor-seccesionist split takes place after the end of the Blood Crusade so maybe 062M.31 after Raktra goes all deamon prince(and I think Travier as well). Gwal&Hectarion vs Raktra and Gwal vs Travier takes place at the siege of Terra. bluntblade
Alexos' initial discovery that there's more to the truth of the Warp than he's been told, and his meeting with the emissaries of the Chaos Gods, both need to be established on the timeline. 927 M30 sees the Shepherds of Eden leave the Berserkers of Uran in the wake of the Inwit War, later formalised with their new status as a Legio Auxilia. The Qarith War ends in 999; the Scions subsequently join the Iron Bears on Laeran. The Koloss Syntheticide is waged by the Lightning Bearers, Halcyon Wardens, Wardens of Light and the Shepherds of Eden over the same year. The following year Niklaas conquers Barbarus, having been absent at the Qarith Triumph. MikhalLeNoir
No. Not that. He even specified when exactly the Wardens return to the front. How long does it take for primarch to take command of his legion after he was found? So I can specifiy the mechanicum abyssii. And when exactly does morro attack russ? And battle of batu is 804.M30 before the first primarch is found. Kelborn
Ah ok. Well, I think that Simi will add it here. Concerning Primarch taking over his Legion. As far as I know, it depends. Vulkan stayed with the Emperor for a couple of years before he took control of his Legion. Could be that it is the routine to have the Primarch at the side of the Emperor for a couple of years before giving him his Legion. Don't know who it was but I believe that there were one or two Primarchs who took directly control of their Legions. Perturabo? Maybe Guiliman? simison
To answer the top post, no, we don't have Ullanor. The Ork Empire there was preempted by the Qarith. Anyway, I dimly remembered this thread and felt this was the most appropriate place to post my research. For the last day, I've been running numbers and calculating how long these campaigns would take. I had these in PMs, but, on reflection, I see no reason to hide this information from the rest of the project. So, I'm re-posting it here so others can comment on it. "Truth be told, I would like to sharpen the timeline. But one important question to answer is perhaps the simplest: how long does it take to get from one end of the galaxy to the other? For better or for worse, these seem to be the most direct sources I can find: http://www.warseer.c...arp-travel-take I verified the Rogue Trader book, and it does state it takes several years to get from one side of the galaxy to the other. So, traveling across a Seg. should at least take a 100 days. Really, the first year of the Insurrection (031), after the fireworks of the DoR, its mostly re-positioning for the Legions as Icarion and Alexandros try to secure the core of their empires. The HW and the FK are returning to Terra as are most of the Traitor Legions are rallying to Madrigal. The remainder of the Loyalists are recovering. The Traitor Legions do conquer on their return trips. So, if you were to color the new Traitor territory, it'd look like this ball with these thin tentacles reaching out. Only the Harbingers are actively expanding the core boundaries. Soon, the Mars Civil War breaks out, and that's the largest Loyalist campaign for the rest of the year. 032.M31 starts. Everyone knows the score now. The Traitors are divided between two priorities: expanding the new empire and some Traitor Legions are guarding their home systems. The Loyalist forces are focused in three areas: Solar Segmentum (crushing rebellions), defending their home sectors (like Three Fires), and forming a flexible defense line slowing down Icarion's expansion. This is the first round of low-level war. While still eliminating rebellions in Solar Seg., the Warmaster is coordinating the front lines. As described earlier, the Loyalists Legions are trying to pick and choose their battles. If there's not a large enough garrison, the system is simply evacuated to strengthen defenses at more critical systems. A priority list is developed for these evacuation protocols: Titans and their support elements & secret/critical tech Legionaries and Legion equipment & rare resources Mechanicum forces and their supplies Imperial Army regiments & standard war materials Important Civilian figures Refugees The Scions Hospitaliers actually become the heroes of the Imperium during this phase as it is their efforts and their specialization at rapid mobilization and evacuation that let them often achieve most priorities. Meanwhile, the Void Eagles, Dune Serpents, and Predators are launching hit-and-run attacks to slow down Traitor fleets and forces. The Fire Keepers are primarily fortifying Terra and then the rest of Solar Seg. during this period. The Crimson Lions and Iron Bears, given their offensive specialty, are split between containing the Traitors and eliminating the rebellions in Imperial space. During the planetary battles of this period, the Halcyon Wardens are the ones taking the brunt of the Traitor advance as they call upon every defensive tactic to force the Traitors to pay a high price. But it always ends in Traitor victory. Ironically, Icarion is completely undefeated in war. It is what comes after that ends up consuming more time. Since Icarion is establishing a proper empire, every system he conquers needs to be cleared of Imperial Loyalists while establishing a new government loyal to him. Although he has Kozja, Koschei, and Malis, who are both politically and diplomatically adept, none are as skilled as Alexandros. So when Icarion claims a system where the Loyalist Legions have fled, the local PDF and/or Imperial Army regiments will put up a spirited fight. Even with systems that have been completely evacuated of all Loyalist military assets, Loyalist citizens will engage in sabotage campaigns and will execute Traitor planetary governors if the governors lack enough of a garrison. This is aggravated by the fact that Icarion doesn't have a large army who can handle garrison duty, forcing him to divert Legion units to fulfill that duty, slowing his overall advance. With all of that said, how does the 10 year timeline hold up? By the time Icarion launches his first assault against Seg. Solar, he essentially has most of Seg. Ultima. and a little territory in Seg. Obscurus and Tempestus. So, borrowing the graph from Rogue Trader, the distance from the border of Solar to the Eastern edge of Icarion's domain is just about half the galaxy. We're looking at 2-2.5 years, just in travel time. And that's a line between two points. Icarion is expanding in all directions.Yet, Icarion does have 10 Legions to expand in the cardinal and intercardinal directions. So, we're looking at a year-ish in each direction. Now, normally, we would add time for taking safer routes, but, as Blunt pointed out, Chaos will actively be helping the Traitor fleets. So, apply a third of a year instead of the normal x2 multiplier because it isn't perfect. So, it's 1.3-1.9 years in hard travel time for the Traitor fleets to get into the size before Icarion's first march against Terra. Yet, that's most of the positive factors in Icarion's favor. Let's count up all of the factors working against his expansion. Dune Serpents guerrilla warfare: 1 year Void Eagle and Predator hit-and-run raids: 2 year Loyalist Planetary defenses: 1 year So, now we're in the ballpark of 5.3-5.9 years. Now, travel time doesn't include the logistics prep that happens before the trip, and moving entire Legions is an intensive task. So, add 2 years as Icarion deploys companies to this battlezone, re-direct units, and so on. An example is re-directing a Steel Legion fleet to hunt down Void Eagle raid battlegroup. Reinforcing a siege against a Loyalist bastion with additional Godslayer tank units. 7.3-7.9 years. Finally, there's infrastructure implementation. Although Icarion has the Legions, he needs to devote time and resources in creating a proper imperial political structure. This ties into his attempts into cowing new populations into proper citizens of his empire. This is the most time intensive activity as new planetary governors are installed, transforming Madrigal into a new imperial capital, and the rest of the infrastructure. It's an on-going process as new systems are conquered. So, just add a flat 3 years? But then the Godslayers and Warbringers are able to help in these efforts, shaving time off. (Actually, Kozja can use this experience for when he creates the Suzerainty.) So, 3 years to 2 years? 9.3-9.9 years. Do the numbers make sense, guys? Sig, inspiration struck me. Looking at Grifft's map, there are several Traitor Legion homeworlds in Pacificus & Obscurus. Once the Dominion is secured, Hectarion and the Crimson Lions can bounce back and forth between trying to contain the Traitor's main empire and securing these segmentums. There are four so far: Strela, home to the Warbringers; Han, home to the Warriors of Peace; Kabyieb, home to the Grave Stalkers; and Mexicatii, home to the Eagle Warriors. Drak has already suggested that the Warriors of Peace outright abandon Han since its so far from Traitor lines. Actually, if Hectarion wants to vent his fury, that could be one of his first campaigns in the Insurrection: targeting the Han super convoy. And after the Blood Crusade, once Hectarion re-secures the Dominion, he launches a retribution campaign against Mexicatii. Looking at the map, it occurs to me that the Suzerainty might be located in the galactic north, whereas I had always imagined it in the galactic south. Anyway, back to the calculations. So, 9.3-9.9 years, placing us in 040-041.M31. But now we come to the first invasion of Seg. Solar. For this invasion, Icarion is launching a three-pronged assault. He is leading the center and largest concentration, Travier is leading the northern prong and protecting Icarion's right flank, and we can decide as a group who commands the southern prong and is protecting Icarion left flank. For this massive undertaking, Icarion has to re-position entire Legions, while leaving enough military strength to keep the East, Three Fires, and Iona in check. Between units re-deploying all the way from the Eastern front and securing the supply lines for the three thrusts, we're talking at least a year in preparation alone, maybe as high as 2 years (10.3-11.9 years). Meanwhile, the Loyalists have not been idle. After securing Seg. Solar in Year 3 (034.M31), the Imperium is now alternating between securing the other Segmentums and buffing the front lines with additional troops and power. The first target is Seg. Pacificus to secure Solar's rear. Hectarion is appointed with this task since Mycenae is located in this segmentum and Alexandros does ensure a steady supply of reinforcements as needed. With only local rebellions (with the exception of Xana which Alexandros declares not worth the trouble right now), one would think this would be a quick affair. To the Warmaster's immense frustration, while the Traitors zoom about the galaxy, every deployment is delayed by turbulent warp currents and randomly appearing warp storms. Although the smallest segmentum and with the fewest rebellions, Pacificus takes far too long for the Warmaster's comfort to reassert Imperial order. Let's calculate the time. Unlike Icarion who is coordinating 10 Legions with 9 different headstrong Primarchs, here it's really just Hectarion and Alexandros who already have high synergy as commanders. By this point, the bulk of the Crimson Lions are in the Dominion after destroying the rebellions in their own borders. So, while a third or so might head to the Traitor warfront, that leaves 2/3rds of a Legion, bits and pieces from other Legions sent by Alexandros, and the might of the Imperial Army and Leonic Auxilia. Actually, would the Leonic Auxilia be deployed outside the Dominion? Regardless, it is a larger force than Icarion's initial advance from the Maelstrom zone, but half the preparation is already done. Numbers. Traveling across a segmentum while merely avoiding the worst is still 100+ days. Now, unlike Icarion who has to advance in all directions, Hectarion and the Crimson Lions are mostly traveling in one direction. But Icarion was ultimately able to do the same, though he was covering more ground. So, we're looking at 1-1.5 years for Hectarion's undertaking. As stated, half of the deployment prep is done, and its really moving Crimson Lions from the Obscurus side of the Dominion to the Pacificus side with the Imperial Army regiments forming a constant stream of reinforcements since I doubt Hectarion waits for all of them to show up before he begins his campaign. But now we factor in Chaos' intervention. Let's just outright triple the time. So, now Hectarion is spending 3-4.5 whole years on subduing Pacificus. Then we add in the battles themselves. Now, besides the odd Blackshield force, it's mostly human rebels. Not much of a fight against Crimson Lions and the Imperial Army regiments. Here and there, there might be an intense campaign against a well-equipped and veteran force of rebels, but even they won't last long against a Primarch. So, instead of the 1 year we assigned for the Traitor advance, it's just a 6-month penalty. Last is restoring Imperial infrastructure. Alexandros does all he can to speed up the process through heavy use of the Diplomatic Corps. And we're talking about restoring regional control instead of creating an entire new imperial bureaucracy and only for a few systems. This is worth only a 3 month penalty. Therefore, Hectarion's pacification campaign in Pacificus takes anywhere from 3.75-5.25 whole years. Mostly because of Chaos screwing with travel. So, Hectarion is stuck in the East from 034.M31 anywhere to 037-039.M31. There are two remaining factors that might affect the time. One, do the Wardens of Light (or the Grey Wardens?) offer any aid? Two, does Hectarion's ignore the Warmaster's orders and assault Xana? The final question I have, Sig, is what does Hectarion do after he re-secures Pacificus? Would Hectarion prefer to return to Obscurus or continue south into Tempestus?" simison
I'd add Pionus to those with established pedigree commanding varied forces, in light of Qarith Prime. On the other hand his Legion will be pretty dispersed, mingled heavily with the Solar Auxilia and Army. You talking about the Pacificus campaign or something else? Because I do have questions about when Pionus returns to duty as a wraithknight. In the short story I wrote in the Loyalists' Strategium, three years passes at least with him absent. How long does it take for the Scions to become desperate enough to force the Aeldari to aid them in saving his life? How long does it take to get the necessary soulstone? How long does it take to successfully transfer the Pionus' soul into his new body? What is done with his old body? Technically, so long as it's placed in stasis, the body can be preserved at the edge of death. Even after the successful operation, how long does it take Pionus to get used to his new body? How long until he reveals himself to his brothers? To the Imperium? After all, he's now in a wraith construct that has been identified as an enemy unit for 230 years. It's going to be awkward, if nothing else. Because once Pionus returns, he can either choose to head straight to the front and aid Yucahu in containing the Traitors or launch his own Pacification campaign in Tempestus, excluding the heavily fortified Zbruch. bluntblade
I meant Alexandros' over-arching strategy. So well before Pionus is broken. As I understand it, Pionus will be interred in something closer to an Imperial Knight in appearance, so he won't register as an Eldar thingy to most. It occurs to me that though the Scions might hold together, more or less, Pionus as an active commander will constitute a massive loss, even if his new body enables data to be loaded straight into him as with Dreadnoughts. Sigismund229
To answer your first question: yes the Leonic Auxilia would be deployed outside of the Dominion if it was alongside the Crimson Lions, mainly to give the Lions staying power. Second question: I think it would be likely that Hectarion would ignore Alex and go for Xana, particularly given how angry he's going to be post-DoR Third question: I think that would depend on where there is the largest concentration of Insurrectionist legion forces. Wherever there are the most Insurrectionist legionaries and primarchs, that's where the Lions will go Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324621-ref-event-timeline/#findComment-4875280 Share on other sites
simison
Regarding the Fire Keepers, they obviously spend most of the early Insurrection fortifying Terra and Obsailes with a few forward units to build pre-fabricated defenses to slow the Traitor's advance. Now, this will be the most time-intensive building operation they will ever do because it's Terra. Now, originally, we supposed that it would take the ten years, and Nik will finish right as Icarion is gearing up for his first assault. Upon further reflection, while this has a kind of rhyme from a narrative's point-of-view, I don't think it's actually realistic. To compare to canon, Dorn has 7 years to fortify all of the Sol System, and he might have actually finished it before the 7 years. Furthermore, Dorn remains on Terra for the entire Heresy to coordinate the Loyalist war machine. Alexandros has that responsibility, not Niklaas. Now, Niklaas does take longer since he does have FK directed to the front line, mostly siege wings and experts. Thus, he'll end up taking the same 7 years, but then he's free to leave Terra. With the Sol System completely fortified by 038.M31, Niklaas moves out and divides his Legion more evenly between creating stronger speed bumps in front of the Traitor's advance and fortifying other systems in Seg. Solar that are along the most likely route between Terra and Icarion's Dark Imperium with emphasis on the systems along the segmentum border. Now, Mikhal did answer my question about Warden of Light activity during the Pacificus campaign. Since the Wardens of Light do help put out the fires of rebellion, Hectarion's work is cut by a third to 2.5-3.5 years, meaning Hectarion is now finished somewhere from 036-037.M31. Unless Hectarion decides to eliminate Xana. Now, the Void Eagles, Predators, and Dune Serpents require no calculations because all three of them are completely on the front line, trying to slow down the Traitors. The only Legion I'm unsure of during this time are the Iron Bears. I could use some help here. Easy answers are that the Iron Bears are holding the Three Fires sector and also are on the front line. So, everything is now mostly accounted for up until the first invasion of Solar. The year is either 041 or 042.M31. Icarion can't hide the build-up, so Alexandros begins redirecting Loyalist Legions and regiments in preparation. The Warmaster deploys forward units on the front lines, but holds back half his forces at rally points a few days travel behind the front lines to be able to re-deploy and better react to Icarion's strategy. When Icarion finally gives the word, the Traitors strike in a massive echelon formation, starting with the southern thrust. A quick detour, who should be the commanders of the southern battlezone? Here where my thoughts: Northern assault - Alexandros vs. Travier Central assault - Niklaas vs. Icarion Southern assault - (Hectarion, Yucahu, Pionus) vs. (Raktra, Koschei, Morro, Kozja, Jade, Nomus) Hectarion might be on that flank if he pacified Tempestus, but his aggressive style might not be well suited to defense (Update: he's in Obscurus). Yucahu, I'm not sure about since he's more of a specialist commander, but he'll have the void mobility. Pionus might not be ready if he's still adapting to his new condition, but he'd be an expert at rapidly deploying ground forces. Raktra is the most aggressive, Koschei has the most endurance, Morro would utilize unpredictable tactics, Kozja has the best leadership experience, Jade would have the Pariah advantage, and Nomus would be the most precise. Any preferences? In terms of distance, this first assault is relatively tiny compared to the long-distance campaigns in the previous decade. Maybe a sector at most, which puts travel time at a month or two. But we see some of the fiercest fighting in the entire Insurrection. It takes the form of a series of sieges as the Loyalists man defenses, while the Traitors attempt to break them. There are sorties, flanking maneuvers, air assaults, raids, counter-assaults, and every conceivable tactic sees use as even Icarion and Alexandros are forced to pull out titans and chemical warfare. Yet, inch-by-inch, the Loyalists are forced back. Okay, another real-time detour since Sig answered my question. Xana seems to be a non-factor, but adding in the Leonic Auxilia does further streamline the Western campaign (can't believe I said Eastern earlier). This improves deployment and the Leonic Auxilia has great synergy with the Crimson Lions, shaving half a year off of operations. So, the Western campaign is now in the range of 2-3 years and covers only 2/3rds of Pacificus now that the Wardens of Light are taking care of their own neighborhood. With Sig's final answer, I know where Hectarion demands to be deployed. He's returning to Obscurus to root out the various Traitor Legion homeworlds. I will explore that in my next post since this post is getting super long, and there are questions involved. bluntblade
Did we have Kozja being given a title adjacent to Warmaster by Icarion? simison
Did we? I'll check the Traitor's Strategium and Warbringer threads. Something I do want to add is that I don't think Nomus is available. Or Morro. One of them is still in the Eastern Theater keeping Azus in check. And, while I won't rule him out since he is a very talented tactician, I'm not sure if Jade has enough political power to warrant the command of an entire flank. Skalpynock
Did we have Kozja being given a title adjacent to Warmaster by Icarion? Not that I remember, though he stands as one of Icarion's two lieutenants (the other being Travier) during the mid-Insurrection meeting between Icarion and Alexandros.
