How did you do the eyes on the Termie?

I followed the steps I found here:

http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2011/04/space-marine-librarian-complete.html?m=1

Scroll about 1/2 way down and you'll see how he did it on his librarian. I used the paints I had on hand, mainly Reaper lavender and white, and the old citadel laviathan purple wash. I just went at it and hoped for the best. I'll try it again, that's for sure.

I have begun my Corvus:

And a Black Shield has petitioned to join the Watch:

Nothing is known of this Brother, save that he wears an ancient suit of power armor and arrived at the watch fortress already bearing the mark of the Sigilite on his breast...many say he is an omen of dark days to come. We shall see.

Great work here TG, i too love the characterful unit you have here...is screaming bolter man an Ultra? cannot see his pad clearly in any pic...(Is this a conspiracy ph34r.png )

yeah the WE will look good im sure! i read one of the blackshield topics and only just realized they can be from anywhere... i'm thinking of an Iron warrior with shield and pwr wpn for my force...

Mithril

Did a test paint on one veteran tonight. Base is Vallejo Black Primer. First highlight is Tamiya German gray. Final highlight is Tamiya Sky grey. Then a 2-1 glaze of Lahmian Medium and Nuln Oil. I just wish the picture would show what the model looks like. I'm pleased. This wil make gor a fast and easily repeatable method to batch paint armor.

Later.

Vash, I'm going to purchase a small light box soon to help with my pictures.

I took this one outside this morning and it better 'captures' the effect:

Thanks for the encouragement everyone!

A light box is really nice. I use that my self. Mine is of a simple design, made of cloth/nylon.

With a professional camera I don't need a light source if I am outside.

But on to topic. The black looks clean and nice. Hard work for to do something like that :)

Is this a test model or do you usually paint the armour first completely and then the other colours/details?

Vash, a little bit of both. I'm trying to refine my technique for airbrushing black armor. I'll hand paint the details as neatly as possible. I really don't want to do touch ups on that black armor. Fortunately these guys are not just covered in ornamentation.

Thank you War. Here's where Vet #1 stands tonight:

He's starting to look like a Deathwatch Marine now. I will say, that this some of the cleanest painting I have ever done. I REALLY trying to keep errant colors off the armor, as I don't know how I'd be able to clean it up.

Once I get this one done I can start batch painting the other 4 for his unit.

Later.

Agreed, you nailed the head on this fig really well. I'm just finding the head sculpts are so articulate now that doing a good base foundation and some experience with the flesh shading gives awesome results like you have. In the old days you pretty much had to 'paint on' the facial muscles and make these big bug eyes. Now no one even paints eyes... and you don't really need to.

This guy really pops though. Agree on the hair as well it all looks really natural. Very nice.

P.S.

What is the leather colour you're using? I started with Duncan's painting tutorial and used Doombull Brown (or something like that) and used Agrax shade. It's a LOT darker than yours. I'm just curious what you used.

Mithril, the shoulder pad pic is coming. My citadel air paints arrived at my local games workshop today.

Vel, thank you.

Vash, the leather is the original base color Khemri Brown. I bought three pots of it when the color change happened. Once it gets a little Agrax on it, it will look the way I like it.

I hope to finish this chap off tonight.

Noooooooooo not an ultramarine. Looks good

I guess you don't want to hear about the retro colored (read 2nd edition scheme) Ultramarine army I'm planning right now, either? ;)

He's the only space smurf in my watch company...for now!

I'm calling him done

I'll tackle the rest of the squad tomorrow. Airbrushing then detail painting. Batch work should make it quick.

I'll have 2 but only cause of cassius box set. But I am planning an all Sons of Dorn squad (but no traitorous soul drinkers)

Hey now, they never betrayed anyone. They just went renegade so they could keep serving the Emperor in their own way . . . msn-wink.gif
