Two quick questions Re: Cadia

Emperor's Fist:  Requires Tank Commander, 3 Squadrons and 1-3 the other guys.  Does the Tank Commander and his wingman count as one of those squadrons?

The second is more confirming that AB is not ready for prime time ...

Emperor's Shield:  This is 3 separate platoons, not one big blob of 6 squads, correct?

The Tank commander entry in the codex, states that it is at least 2 tanks, the commander and his wingman. In the emperor's fist is a tank commander (2 tanks), and 3 squadrons of russes (minimum 3 tanks), and 1-3 Techpriests.

That means the Emperor's fist is bare minimum a 5 tank formation. I hope that clears that up.

As for the emperor's shield infantry company: it is 3 emperor's shield infantry platoons plus a company command squad. Each emperor's shield platoon is a infantry platoon with minimum 5 infantry squads and a sentinel. So for the full company you are looking at 15 infantry squads, 3 Platoon command squads, 3 sentinels, and a Company command squad. Grand total 173 models in the infantry company, bare minimum.

The Cadian Battlegroup is unplayable. Either because of the cost in money t build it, cost in points to field it (you can make it an 1850 list, but it's highly restrictive to do so), time required to play it (the emperor's shield formations are unwieldy), or the total worthlessness of having that many non obsec troops.

Use a CAD for guard until we get something better, because the cadian battlegroup is a flaming turd.

Unless of course you are playing a narrative game where the cadian forces have to hold back abaddon and the csm :)

Yeah, I suppose that's one use for it. Still, I find the CBG to be underpowered as far as the other decurions, and the points levels require to play it effectively (and have fun with it) are way too high. In fact the point levels practically have to be over 2500 and that's going to start into Apoc/Narrative Campaign territory anyway, so that's about the only use. Even then, you're likely to see the CBG get stomped by the knights and superheavies you'll start to see at those points levels.
