Now that I'm off my phone you're right. Kromlech. Though the Anvil Industry ones are pretty sweet too.

Heh... I actually forgot myself and had to rummage around in my garbage looking for the package.  I bought them at a local hobby store and just couldnt remember if it was Kromlech or Spellcrow.

Do you guys know how to take better photos?  Do I need more light?  Every picture I take either has crazy amounts of glare from the flash or lots of shadows and poor lighting.

The key to photographing primarily dark minis is to have a mid-tone back ground. A light background will darken the mini and a dark will wash it out as the camera tries to adjust the exposure.

What Nusquam said is correct. A couple of other tips for photography in minis is to try to build a light box. Here's a wikihow article on how to DIY one at home http://www.wikihow.com/Create-an-Inexpensive-Photography-Lightbox I'm sure there's probably a a build blog/guide more mini-focused either on our forums here or on another forum like Dakka. On top of that, to add on to what Nusquam said, your back ground can play a huge part in getting details to show. In your case, since you're color palette is very cool, I would suggest a back ground that's warm to give contrast. Either an orange, red, or brown gradient. Its pretty easy to make a gradient on your inkjet printer at home (I think if you just google back ground gradients you can probably find something). Alternatively, you can get a simple or slightly textured fabric and use that as a back ground.

Just some thoughts!

Brother Furiyen fought valiantly for the emperor for centuries before falling in battle in a duel with the vile daemon lord known only as the Lasher Prince.  Though technically dead when recovered the spark of life and will to serve within him remained.  Despite his continued battle prowess the inquisition is watching closely.

The famed Black Guard under Shadow Captain Oxor are masters of subterfuge and misdirection but also possess a pigheaded pride uncommon to Raven Guard and successor chapters.  They are capable assassins and infiltrators but also glory hungry.  Their list of feats of endless but some recent exploits have earned them something of a reputation.  Several months ago the Black Guard nearly captured a functional Riptide battle suit but due to battle field circumstances had to quickly "modify" the suits nova reactor.

Ok so... Could some of you guys comment on my reddish style bases.  I had planned on basing most of the army with this.  It is a dusty mars type base but dry brushed with silver giving it a really metallic look that doesnt show up well in photos.  Does the red clash too much with my blue armor scheme?

its a good contrast, you don't want the model to absolutely blend in with the base, i'd do the base rims in black for some professional and classy pop :cool.:  the bases look good but id drybrush a li'l bit onto the bottom of a vehicle's undercarrige and bikes wheels/fairings,boots etc to give it the dusty earthy look your after.

Your blue is vibrant, a bit Tron like (not really my taste but heck they're yours and you call the shots :tongue.:) other than that personal thing they are pretty awesomesauce, Furiyen is in top spot for best model :wub.:

lol!  Tron was actually what gave me the idea.

I almost ruined the dread when I had a near disaster with the text on the front panels.  Micronpens smudge like crazy even days after drying :(

I used vallejo brush on varnish about 50 hours of drying... smudged like crazy.  I painted over it and redid everything with a different technique for applying varnish.  Instead of typical brush strokes i dabbed it.  That worked out okay.

Rhino 95% done... needs a few more edge highlights I think.

Pledge drop pod.  Things I learned losing my drop pod painting virginity... use sub assemblies and automotive primer.  Brush on primer rubs off easily on the bottom sections and the model is really awkward to paint even partially assembled.  The next pod I do will be painted one part at a time then assembled.  Overall I'm happy with it... all things considered... B- imo.

Quick question for anyone... does the tranfer on that vet next to the rhino look large enough ?  It is the smaller than the normal shoulder icons... think it works or should I just paint over this and add the normal shoulder icon?

Very nice!  I really dig the black and blue.  The edge highlights are super crisp!

With regards to the shoulder pad, it looks fine to me.  It just adds a little character to have it smaller.  I noticed with BA kits a lot of the molded icons on shoulders aren't even the same size so it's totally normal for painted ones to also not all be uniform!

Great job there.

My wife painted her drop pod in sub-assemblies, then it wouldn't go together.  Keep an eye open for areas that will need the paint to be removed to get the fit.

I didn't find it too difficult to paint once assembled fully, but then I love the drybrushed interior, so I guess it's down to personal preference.

Shadow Captain Oxor's elite guard are tasked with a single purpose, locate Corvus Corax.  With the opening of the Eye of Terror Oxor has received scattered intelligence reports of a winged warrior appearing in battle then vanishing without a trace.  Is it a distortion of the warp or a diabolical trap?  Perhaps Oxor is reaching for a false hope or being whispered to by something... unnatural.  Whatever the case... the Ghost Ravens task force stands for deployment for any missions critical to the location of their primarch.

The Ghost Ravens have borrowed from the ork concepts of brutal cunning and cunning brutality in that they do not deploy stealthily but rather the opposite.  Enemies can expect a straight up bloodbath when facing the Ghost Ravens but must be ever watchful of their rear because whilst the Ghost Ravens do not hide, their chapter brethren are keen to exploit the obvious presence of the Ghost Ravens.

Quick question....

http://i.imgur.com/zPY7xzL.jpg

Would this kind of blood splatter look good on one of the assault terminators?  I'm not sure it looks so good.  This was just a test model.  What do you guys think, splatter the blood or not?

Edited by SanguinaryGuardsman

Awesome work.

Have you got any other "test models" available?

If so, try using a toothbrush and a lollipop stick (or popsicle stick) and draw the stick towards you so you get a finer splatter effect.

The effect you've got there makes the terminator look like he's bathing in blood Khorne style.

(IMO of course ;) )

You do know you're not allowed to paint your Terminators white with black helmets, yeah?

In all seriousness I think that scheme is epic. Really original and they provide a strong counterpoint to the rest of the force, whilst still fitting the theme. I'm tempted to nick the idea but it would just come across as blatant plagiarism, I think.

On the blood spatters, I think less is more. Like Damo said, add too much and it starts to look like he's bathed in blood for fun rather than happening to get some on him in battle.

Where are those wing-faced helmets from?
