Yeah, it is Amit. He and Azkaellon are the protagonists of those two stories. He doesn't look quite as pissed as he does on Flesh of Cretacia yet.

Kinda surprised they put the Flesh Tearers iconography on his armor, though. I had the impression that it was picked during the 2nd Founding (as per Sons of Wrath).

Vox Tenebris actually follows the first character I ever wrote about for Black Library, the Space Wolf Drenn Redblade, albeit 200 years on from his first adventure. He's forced to team up with another old acquaintance from Deathwatch Kill-Team Cassius, the Dark Angel Zameon Gydrael, as they battle to escape the ruinous depths of Morkai's Keep with both their sanity and their secrets intact.

This also popped up:

Thanks :P

Forgot to save that as it's an old story :P Azkaellon needs a helmet >_>

Azkaellons head is probably my absolute favorite head. His face and hair are glorious.

It is exactly what I would picture when picturing the son of an angel who is a mad killer.

I wish Sanguinius had a face like that, because Sanguinius' face so far has been a huge disappointment

Awesome to hear that. Did your take on Drenn change much between his first outing and Vox Tenebris?

Any idea if Drenn's glorious hair will be on the cover again?

Definitely. While it's still Drenn, he's an old Long Fang now who's Seen Too Much and Doesn't Take S**t. It was a lot of fun to chart his changes down the centuries. As for his hair, it's somewhat greyer now, but the cover art is really quite jaw-dropping (it's up on my Facebook page).

Will probably pick up Master of Mankind I hope to god the Eldar are shown as masters of their domain and are not as useless/irrelevant as they have been in damn near every black library showing.

This is the author who gave us Aurelian and Betrayer though so fingers crossed for another top notch entry. The Magnus Primarch novel I hope is good too. Magnus and Lorgar are my two favourite primarchs.

Are eldar even going to feature? I thought this was in the man made section after the daemons came through?

I'm not going to lie though, I don't know much about it besides a few snippets I've seen

Majestic. But it seems there is Traitor Marines with Daemons on the Webway attacking the Palace.

Now we know where Abbadon will sneak into the palace in 40k.

And the Emperor lit up the Custodian Cigarette with his sword.

Mostly, but not entirely. Though on that note the webway is incalculably vast, and there are plenty of parts the eldar don't, won't, or can't go. The eldar claim significant pockets of the webway and use it for transit, but they're in no way masters of the domain. Even then, the webway was a graveyard for a lot of eldar, somewhere hollow and dangerous in the centuries after their entire empire was annihilated, rather than an awesome place to hang out. It's supposed to be the mysterious, unknowable, terrifying realm where only the Harlequins are 'safe' (...and they're basically insane). Since the Fall a lot of it has been flooded with daemons or sealed away, too. Especially the parts that open up in the Eye of terror, example.

The two deepest looks we've had into the webway have been in The Inquisition Wars, where human characters used it to travel between craftworlds and still barely encountered the eldar relatively speaking; and Horus Heresy: Collected Visions, dealing with the Emperor's plans, where the eldar aren't mentioned at all. As much as a side story about Aspect Warriors and Farseers etc. would've been fun, there was just too much going on already, too much actual lore to get through. They just weren't relevant, and I wasn't quite selfish enough to squeeze them in for my own giggles. Not without taking another year on the book, making it 50% longer, and earning reviews that said "ADB put this irrelevant part in just because he likes the eldar."

Which would've made me sad.

Might you do a story that gives you an excuse to deal with the Eldar bits?

I so want to.

Timing is a factor, too. The war in the webway wasn't a brief or simple thing. It raged and raged, in a realm where reality didn't quite apply, and with hellish consequences. At the point TMoM is set the eldar weren't super-relevant, but I had a few ideas for how they might show up at other points. So... I dunno. I hope so. Part of the issue is that it's the Horus Heresy and certain story ideas haven't historically been looked upon kindly, either by editors or by many fans. Imagine the "lol stretching out the story" and "lol get to terra lol" comments. You know?

You could explore the entire galaxy at that period in time and it would be fascinating, but that's not really what a vocal subset of readers want, nor is it the main thrust of the narrative. It gets understandably draining being accused of "stretching it out" to the point where it's easier just not to risk triggering those people and their complaints.

tl;dr -- Maybe! 50-50.

That could make a fascinating story, especially with Eldrad Ulthran having previously attempted to warn individuals of the oncoming Heresy - with a direct highway (albeit monumentally heavily guarded) to the Emperor himself, would Ulthran ever consider trying to directly warn The Big Man?

I do wonder whether Forge World's Heresy series will ever touch the War in the Webway - they're fleshing out the Custodes and Sisters of Silence as factions, but even then it might not tie in greatly with the rest of the series, depending on quite how broad an approach they'll be taking with the rest of the series.

Either way, such a book would be a great opportunity to look at stuff like that, side conflicts which involve the various factions of Eldar (although it seems pretty likely that the series will entirely avoid Xenos involvement in the Heresy's conflicts), as those books are great at displaying how much wider conflicts are than we have thought previously.

To those constantly complaining about "not advancing the plot"*: God-Emperor damn it, you are actively putting off awesome authors from writing awesome stories. This is why we can't have nice things :p

*Not to say such points can never be justified, just that I think they get thrown around a lot more than they should. And the above is intended mostly as a jest.
