Remember to stay on-topic to this thread - less about problems in the overall heresy, or mistakes in its plotting - rather what makes this individual novel 'good'/'likeable' for you (including things it contributes to the broader heresy that you like).

 

Nevertheless, Magnus's hubris includes his desire to be loved, and thinking he will be loved by the E. The overwhelming charisma of him that several noted - an excellent way of phrasing it - means he maybe rarely met someone he couldn't charm, Stephen Fry-style, with his eloquence and intelligence. A rare example of this being Valdor, for example, or Russ or Mortarian.
