Militarum Tempestus + Imperial Knights

Hey everyone.

Been thinking about starting up a MT army after get my Deathwatch to 1k points. I want to build a fluffy MT escort list for a one of the royal members in an imperial knight or two imperial knights. I am building this army for use in ITC games. I know these are not the best armies right now, lack psychic powers as well as a lot of other things but it is what I want to run in a competitive environment.

The story-line will be that a particularly powerful(rich) royal member had lost his/her children to an attack on a paradise world. The royal person(parents) then decided to use the entirety of their wealth and influence to purchase a massive military force to go out and protect the citizens of their planet and others, or perhaps just to get revenge. When looking at the options available in their region they were able to commission two Imperial Knights and had a slew of nobles "donate" their unwanted children to the special Militarum Tempestus forces that would be traveling with the two vengeance filled parents. The nobles were brain wiped and trained as the most elite force in the sector over a four year training program while the Imperial Knights were being built by a nearby mechanicus world. The rights to a nearby materials planet being their reward their focus on completion of the knight became a singular focus for them. A new fleet was built as well and manned by a surge in the imperial navy budget with the sole purpose of escorting the knights and elite troops to the destinations where they were needed.

I'll be writing up a whole story over time starting shortly before the event through the trading of rights and spending of wealth to eventually revealing that it might have been an inquisitor that started this all as he needed some extra forces for an upcoming battle.

Anyway... onto the idea of the list. Please keep in mind that I am wanting to compete in ITC tournaments.

IK (1 or 2) kitted out for what ever MT will have the hardest time with. Maybe MCs? I'm not to sure about this yet.

The rest of the force will be MT. I'm planning on using the Air Cav formation for the MT. Four valks, cmd sqd, commissar, scions x3(2 with meltasx2, 1 with plasma(or HSVG)

I pretty much know how to setup the MT. My main concern is how I setup the Imperial Knights. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated as I have only played one game with the MT so far I'm not entirely sure what they struggle with. Would it be better to have the MT completely focused on melta and have them be tank/mc/meq and run the IKs as anti-infantry? Or should I have the roles reversed and use the IKs as anti-MC/tank and use the MT as anti-infantry?

Sorry for all the questions but your expertise would be very appreciated.

Thanks in advance to everyone willing to help out and those that can't offer advice thank you for your time anyway,

Storm Troopers are from the Schola, so if it did involve "donations" it'd have to be a bit in the planning. The alternative is to have them as an equivalent force to the Scions so not a major stumbling block.

MT have plenty of special weapons to use - melta and plasma mostly - so MCs and the like don't tend to be much of a problem (factor in Orders too). Horde control is however, as MT can struggle to generate volume of fire and are fewer in number themselves so Knights built to handle this would be good. I'd say keep the chainsword too to give some strong CC, something Stormies lack.

Personally, I run the classic Paladin or the crusader with my storm troopers. Multiple large blasts really helps with the swarms of tyranids I often encounter. The strength D chainsword comes in handy, so I tend to prefer the Paladin.

Ahhh gotcha! I will be picking up 5 of the let's play boxes to start out the force.

This will give me 50 Scions and if I did the math right.... 10 of each special weapon.

1 Tempestus Prime (Plasma Pistol)

3 Tempestors (Plasma Pistol)

1 Commisar(Plasma Pistol)

10 Plasma Guns (Medic x1 / Vox Caster x1 / Scions x8)

10 Melta Guns (Medic x1 / Vox Caster x1 / Scions x8)

10 Hot-Shot Volley Guns (Medic x1 / Vox Caster x1 / Scions x8)

15 Hot-Shot Lasguns (Vox Caster x3 / Scions x12)

What this will give me is exactly what I need for the Airborne assault minus the four valkries. It will also all me to mix up the units however I need them or see fit to bring them.

Command Squad

Commisar (PP)

Tempestus Prime (PP)

Plasma / Melta / Hot-Shot Volley Gun x4 (Vox Caster + Medic)

5 man Scions x3

Tempestor (PP)

H-S Lasgun x2

Plasma / Melta / H-S Volley Gun x2 (Vox Caster)

From what you have both suggested though and from my examination of the MT it does appear they would be best suited to pick out hard targets that my IK's will have trouble with. It also fits the fluff that the IK's being extreme zealots bent on revenge would most likely not think about tactics and have their IKs launched immediately with the Scions always in pursuit to protect them.

Not sure how well it will play out but I am really looking forward to building and playing this. ^_^

Thanks a bunch for the suggestions. Also, if anyone else has anything to add I would most definitely appreciate it.

From my competitive experience I've always liked and played 1 warden and 1 errant

You'll definitely need 2, 1 is too easy to neutralize

I like the errant and warden for their MEQ/TEQ/MC/GC/AT qualities

But if your main concern is hordes I'd switch the errant for paladin

Not sure I can afford FW knights. I live in the USA. But I'll look into them. I know I will be running two knights. Three is just too many points and I will not be able to run my Airborne Assault Formation.

Thank you everyone for the advice! I have the beginnings of a list now going to post it up in the list section and see if anyone has ideas on where I can improve it.
