OK, this is the super informal introduction/interest poll/making sure I'm not breaking any forum rules.

Disclaimer: Who knows when I'll make the time to actually get this rolling.

Disclaimer the second: I am NOT a Mod, and I do NOT speak for the B&C. This is in no way an official B&C event smile.png

I have always thought it would be fun to run a forum event of some kind, so here we are. Only in Death will be a Sisters of Battle event wherein players will follow one (or more, if they make multiple vows) squads through several games, writing up some kind of fluffy report or story about each game and posting it here. It may also involve keeping track of who kills what, and who dies, though all of that will be optional. I will try and provide guidelines that allow for detailed entries, but I don't want to require too much to participate, so the minimum entry will be . . . minimal tongue.png

Basically, if you haven't seen something like this on the B&C before, you will make a vow to do something (in this case, follow the action of a unit in a few games) by a certain due date and report back to claim you "prize" (see below).

A few restrictions I want to mention so that people can discuss them before I make any final decisions:

You will have to have a playable Sisters of Battle army (no painting requirement, if I did that I wouldn't be able to participate tongue.png )

You will actually need to play some games of Warhammer 40,000 (whatever edition (I know a few of you play 2E), even kill team will work probably)

Barring deaths (which will be optional in any case) the squad/vehicle/independent character you vow to report on will need to remain the same in terms of loadout throughout the event.

I will likely require that each game be played with ONLY detachments from the Adepta Sororitas faction, so no allies, not even things like assassins, Imperial Knights, Inquisitors, Sisters of Silence, etc.

I will also likely require that each game be against a different list. In the case of multiplayer games, I will probably ask that at least one of the opposing lists be different from game to game.

Again, I am going to try and have as few restrictions/requirements as possible, especially in terms of what kind of unit you want to follow.

I may have went a liiiiitle overboard making banners for this, but I was having fun. Durring/after the event, you can put an appropriate banner in your signature (or your about you page in you profile; wherever, really) Here we go:

the banners appear to be available in 2 sizes the way they uploaded to the B&C gallery, as you can see below (I'm only putting the first one in both sizes for now:

gallery_83651_12583_112854.png

This first one is the banner I made to put in your signature during the event.

If you fail your vow, you fail the Emperor.

These three are just generic marks of completion

The following banners are for specific types of vows, or act performed by a unit during the event. I will most likely ask people to tell me if they want to "earn" one of these at the end of the event, and they will need to provide some justification (I will probably award them to those who complete more detailed vows, but I haven't worked out the details myself yet).

This one is for if your vow is a squad of Repentia

This would be for a squad that dies a lot smile.png

gallery_83651_12583_32030.png

This one will probably be for killing enemy characters, maybe having a requirement that the unit chooses a target before the game (kinda like in the Purge the Arch-Heretic mission in the codex)

I absolutely love flamers, so there is a banner just for burning heretics. Come on, this is Sisters, how could there not be? tongue.png

For killing vehicles. Melta is part of the Holy Trinity too!

Servant of Dante,

A Few questions for this:

1- How long are we gonna do this for?

2- Are we gonna be limited to how many squads/ Characters we are allowed to use/ field?

3- Do vehicles count for this?

4- Since a lot of use the Special Characters how will we proceed with that?

5- Allies should be allowed  once per so many games.....not that I use them frequently.

6- No one dies in 40k......

some suggestions

-Special Characters- If you use them you should re name them to fit your army. For example St. Celeste is actually Canoness Alana Janelle, Hero of the 3rd War for Armageddon

-Deaths....Battle field injury sit them out a game to recover.

But I should be down for this.

Servant of Dante,

A Few questions for this:

1- How long are we gonna do this for?

The original idea was to run it for a couple months and require a minimum of 3 games. You can certainly play more, but I know many of the members of the B&C don't get to play often, so I don't want to require too much. Alternatively, this could just be an ongoing thing, but I bet we'll get more interest if it's a limited time frame. Plus, if it doesn't end, how do I hand out the banners tongue.png

2- Are we gonna be limited to how many squads/ Characters we are allowed to use/ field?

You field whatever army list you want (outside the restriction on allies). You can make as many vows as you like as well (once I get the full rules written up - I have a busy weekend ahead). So, to be clear, you field as many units as you want, and you will do some kind of fluff write up for each unit you vowed after each game.

3- Do vehicles count for this?

Absolutely! You can follow a vehicle, even a heretic strapped into a penitent engine if you really want. I don't want to limit anyone. Every vehicle has at least one crew member, and if a unit you vow has a dedicated transport, you can include the transport in your vow if you like.

4- Since a lot of use the Special Characters how will we proceed with that?

I meant that you can't choose to make your vow about a special character. You can include them in your army; you just can't make them the subject of a vow. Again, you are not going to be reporting on/writing about every unit in your list. Just 1 (or multiple, if you make multiple vows).

5- Allies should be allowed once per so many games.....not that I use them frequently.

Since I'm only requiring 3 games, I think it's fair to limit allies. I will consider allowing up to 1/4 of the points value of a list to be spent on allies, but I'd prefer to keep them strictly banned.

6- No one dies in 40k......

People die all the time in 40k . . . just not the named characters. And, like I said in my first post, anything to do with deaths and so on will be purely optional. Personally, I don't know that I will be using the death rules myself.

some suggestions

-Special Characters- If you use them you should re name them to fit your army. For example St. Celeste is actually Canoness Alana Janelle, Hero of the 3rd War for Armageddon

Like I said above, you are free to include special characters in your lists, they just can't be the object of a vow. Additionally, I don't like using a special character's rules to represent a custom character. Those no one acts/fights exactly like Celestine, and to use her rules for another character destroys her individuality, since the rules are the sum total of their in-game existence. But that's just my opinion. I'm not going to stop you from running a character using Celestine's/Jacobus's rules, and I suppose I might allow them to be the object of a vow, even if I personally don't like the idea.

The point is, I don't want to stifle anyone's creativity, since this is a fluff-writing based event.

-Deaths....Battle field injury sit them out a game to recover.

Since I'm only requiring 3 games minimum . . . but yeah, I think the table for non-character models you roll on if they are a casualty will go something like: 1-2: dead 3-4: serious wound, out for the next game (you'll just have to run your unit under strength, or have a new recruit) 5-6 minor wound, they're fine for the next game. Again, this will be an optional table for you to use if you want. You will be free to simply say that each Sister has survived each battle, and has had time to heal between games.

The point isn't to hold people to strict guidelines, but to encourage the community to (and I know people hate this phrase) "Forge the Narrative!" how they want to, and share what they do with the rest of us. But this is about Sisters, hence my reluctance to even allow allies on the table.

But I should be down for this.

Glad to hear it! Hopefully you're still interested when you see the details (when I get around to figuring out exactly what those details are) These questions were really useful to me to organize my thoughts.

I like it...3 games doable over a few months. Takes the need for special characters and allies out of the game. I would limit the amount of vows we take from a minimum of 1 to a max of 4. At 1850 I plan on take a Canonness, command squad w/ immolator, 3 10 sister strong squads, 2 seraphim, Retributors and 2 exorcists. Granted I would not vow all of them but my canoness, her immolator, and 1 sister battle squad and maybe the Retributors but at lesser pts the Retributors and immolator maybe cut. So giving us the minimum and maximum would ensure we take those units

Hum. Good point. Myself, I plan on vowing Squad Dominus (20 strong BSS) and my command squad in their Immolator with Canoness Raedia (ICs attached to units will be allowed to be included in the unit's vow, since they will be fighting together).

Hopefully this coming week I'll be able to put everything together and give this event a formal start.

Are there any others who are interested?

+ Victinia, lend us your strength! +

Wait, are you asking if that works?

If so, the anwser is yes. You can focus on the transport/IC(s) as little or as much as you like. It will probably be fine if you  choose to not use the transport in one of the games, or not deploy the IC with the unit all the time, but you are certainly not disallowed from attaching ICs to a vowed unit or from putting a vowed unit into a transport.

I won't be able to start recording games until something like mid-December - just sent the latter half of my army off for painting today - but I've made a resolution to get as much experience with them after that as I can. With that in mind, I'd feel reasonably comfortable putting myself forward for this. If nothing else it'll give me reason to pay a little more attention to how I'm using certain units and how they fare against different enemies.

Most likely my focus will be my Heavy Flamer Retributors and their accompanying Priest (w/Rhino).

I, nor have the other Mods (as far as I'm aware)in this sub forum have been made aware of this event. It's customary to outline the whole thing to one of us before posting...

Sorry. I wasn't aware. Um . . . When I get the details worked out I'll PM them to you and wait for a response before posting.

Is there an issue with anything so far? I apologize for getting ahead of myself, I want to respect any expectations the forum moderators might have.
