Chief amongst the traitors, chief amongst the dark gods' armies stands one horde, one warband of immense power. Not the Sons of the Archtraitor. No. A thousand times no. They are born of all bloodlines, unified by brotherhood and kinship. They are brethren not by blood, but by oath. They are not Sons of Horus, nor Bearers of the Word or any other of the motley varieties of betrayal; they are the Black Legion. Time and time again, they have cast their gaze towards Terra. That's a solid rework of the Warmaster, the use of Horus' actual talon and Abaddon's FW head works well and I feel the overall pose is much more natural than the stock model.

 

Nice work on the Terminators too, they look a solid bulwark of ceramite and steel. I like how they are mostly ex-loyalist legionnaires bearing the 'Silvertongue' is this to suggest that he was behind their fall from grace, or am I reading too deep?

I haven't seen that many conversions of Abaddon yet, but I've got a feeling this won't be overshadowed anytime soon. Your renditions seems a lot more grimdark than the stock model, which now seems almost cartoon-evil. Great work!

Terminators look great. The new kits really give a lot more life to the unit. Abby looks amazing! As has been said, the use of the FW bitz really works and the repose is almost even more imposing than the original. Great work.

Deathmaster, Warmaster

Abaddon is his name, thrice-cursed

 

Born of legend, wrought of myth

Clad in history of which he is the smith

What once was Luna's dust and ocean's green

Now is only black, like the blood of his father

Horus, Horus

Lupercal, Lupercal

It had echoed in times past; a chant of warriors

Which now only is a curse upon heathen lips.

Where father was a slave

The son has become king.

Where Horus broke

Abaddon persevered.

 

Death-Talon, Angel-Breaker, Father-Slayer

Made for the father and robbed of his corpse

Blood still fuming, Blood still roiling

The Grandfather's divinity spilled upon the marble

The Uncle's flank torn to shreds of blood-slick feathers

The Father's blackened oil as it was pried from him.

Talon, Talon that you gleam

Like a sickle beneath lunar beam

You hunger eternal, you hunger honestly

For you remain of ages brighter

When you were history's writer.

 

Throne-Breaker, King-Slayer.

Alone you throne above all of your ilk

Not of the Blood, nor the Blight

So, finally Abaddon is done! There'll be better pictures soon, but I wanted to post him as soon as I was done (The black base rim is still wet!). Very, very, very happy with him, one of my best works and one of the greatest characters in the setting. I decided to go for the trophy racks instead of the cloak, as a little homage to the metal original which kickstarted my love for chaos proper so many years ago, but also because a cloak seemed to regal for Abaddon. Though he is called Dark King time and time again, he is the Warmaster first and foremost ;)

@Pearson73: Thanks a bunch man! Yeah, I envisioned teh Word Bearer smooth-talking some loyalists into heresy, actually. I also enjoy entertaining the idea from where all these heretic actually came, since the Black Legion is not simply the renamed Sons of Horus; they are a new legion where ancestry matters little.

 

@ElDuderino: Cheers! Yeah, while I love the stock mini, it was lacking a certain something for me. It just had too little motion, I guess.

@Brother Callidan: Thanks! I did, actually. One of the powerclaws was cut down to be a powerfist, and I think I somehow converted a fifth fist. In any case, there are enough parts in the kit to make a full five powerfists with some cutting and greenstuff.

 

Anyways, that's all for today! I am currently working on my bachelor's thesis in english literature, so I will probably not be partaking in the ETL this year, which is a bit of a shame, but I shall return in full force next year with the Angels of Blood! The Despoiler looks fantastic and I love the accompanying fluff! I have to say I am digging him without his fur pelt and cloak. That and his paint job really sells the fact that He is a warrior king.

 

Hope we can still see some updates here and there but bachelor theses are a bit more important so best of luck on yours!
