30k Imperial Fists, with a little Custodes for now.

Aye, the press molding is quite addictive. Going to have to knock it up a gear and make multi molds. Plan on revisitng the troops with a few bits, the Vet marines in particular. From the pics you'll see I made a fist symbol mounted on a round disc. Being the general IF thing. Need to scale it down by about 1mm to fit nicely on the Mk3 pads, then remove the stuff I've already done and make them a bit more fancy.

Its also pay day and some FW IF stuff is looking mighty tempting.

3 nights and counting to get a yellow I'm happy with... I end up with ones that to flat, or to warm looking, almost orange. Can't wait for the weekend to get some natural light and time to run the air brush.

For the time being I've made a start on my LR Spartan build. Aiming for the buisness end of the tank to resemble the thunderhawk's nose. Scaled down of course. As I'll be using mostly plasticard for the main hull I'll be knocking up some templates from cardboard first. That way any mistakes wont cost me.

LR used for scale, I have a "scrap" LR somewhere that will be getting used for this job, as plan to gut the middle parts and use the track sections anyways. Anyways, some really early wip templates.

Its going to be a case of paint by day, forge by night.

Good luck on the Spartan. May I suggest transposing the driver's hatch and the hull-mounted heavy bolters, so the weapon may traverse 360° and engage targets other than those directly in front of the tank?

Aye, will be the 2nd one I've built, I have one for my Templars. So I'm looking forward to this one, a chance to improve and go that bit further with it, make it a bit more of a beast. But yes, I could move the HB to a more optimal area, so that could work.... . I do like where FW has theirs located, enclosed and armoured hard to take out(not that it makes much difference in game of course).

Considering how large the Spartan is, Forge World could've put those heavy bolters in a more heavily armored turret. Hell, they could've shoehorned a Blast weapon, e.g., an Executioner plasma cannon into the turret.

Right so did some painting last night after getting some old gw blister sponges. Came down to two test yellows out of about 5-6 different results. This one is a mix of hearthfire and flash gitz yellow. Its bright alright, and very IF but I think it lacks depth. ??

At first I wasn't going to use this yellow as it is was a bit darker then I was looking for, but once I added some weathering to it I was like yup, this one. The weathering took less than 5 minutes for this patch. This is a mix of hearthfire yellow and avaerland sunset with a serpia wash.

A bit of both. Mostly to show wear and tear of the paint where its flecked off down to the undercoat and then to the bare metal. The brown might need to be a little darker to show that. On non test models I could go over that to show dirt etc.

Do you use/have access to an airbrush?

The little "mudding" I've attempted has had two states - Texture paint from GW...  Not really convincing, but the texture is interesting.  Airbrushing muddy colours - Can give you some great effects, (I wish I had pics, but no longer have the models) and allow you to use, and randomly mix different shades and colours in the actual cup.

Aye, I have a air brush. I'm not overly keen on textured mudding up areas, tried it in the past and spent some time removing it down the road :( . I'm certainly for a dirt stained look if you know what I mean. Might try a brown/orange colour in the air brush to show ground in dirt, grime, etc.

Painting has started, at last. Been raining basically every day of my time off from work, and the light has been rubbish. Managed to squeeze in this lot just before it went dark and murky again, the light in my house isn't great this time of year. Maybe need to invest in a proper painting area with day light bulbs etc... I bet your top dollar it'll be nice and sunny next week when I'm back in work. furious.gif

Left the vet unit out for now as redoing their shoulder pad decoration.

Taken me way to long to get this bit of the spartan in template form. Mostly trying to get the shape and size right. Big enough to impose itself on the battlefield, but not so big that's its huge, be at a disadvantage and look out of place. From bottom to top the including the tracks will sit around 8.8 cm high. No idea if that's the actual spartan size or not, but seems big enough for purpose.

Wheels cut from till receipt rolls all to 1.5cm, the ocd was pleased when lined up together, biggrin.png . The back wheel being place holder till I get 20mm tube. Overall the track housing will be 1.9cm wide which should leave around 2.7mm overhang each side for the track which is 1 inch wide.

And some further adventures into the world of press molding. The winged bit is good, I'm sure I'll use it for something. But being able to recreate the old oop combat knife brings me much joy. Having only about 7 of the originals left from waaaaay back in the day, I didn't really want to use them.

The first Legion praetor, planning at some point to have one made in each armour variant(just because). I'm happy with the result. Its been a pleasant learning curve for me and, luckily and so far, its worked out. Almost finished my contemptor, some small details, the banner and weathering then it should be done.

Decided to go for a base colour I have never tried either, usually browns and greys. But, again to take me out of my comfort zone went with the red. Think it also makes the yellow pop more.

Since the pics I have added a little more white to the sword hard points and tip if you know what I mean. Just to give it a tad more sparkle. I try and remember to take a updated pic of the sword tomorrow.

Now that the pics are up, I think the grass isn't quite right. Going to replace it with tall grass me thinks.

Had planned more of a update but when going to take pics of the Terminators I realized that I hadn't added battle damage, wear and tear etc. So will get that done over the next few days. They've been sat there for over a week thinking I had them finished. Doh!

Anyways, Contemptor time.

The Spartan is on hold for now, when coming to the tracks I wanted the same style as the 30k tanks in general. I found them from someone in the U.S, but postage and the likely chance of customs charges and royalmail's holding charge they were just too dam expensive. About £60 for enough parts to do both sides. So until I can find a way around that or make my own, it is on hold.

So to fill that gap and to break up the painting, making a little something. Basically converting a Custode into the FW event mini, Tribune Ixion Hale.

Going to put my own take on it, few extra bits here and there and a few less of others. Cause why not. But making it very obvious who its meant to be.

Thanks very much both. The press moulding is very simple to be honest, but thanks for the complement. Can't say enough good things about it at this point. One thing I'm doing will be to keep any master bits I make, as I'll assume the molds will lose its shape after a while(yet to do so) so I can just reheat and remould.

Thanks Brother Pheidias, They are my alternate universe Imperial Fistsbiggrin.png
