D Company 4th Elyam Rifles -A Plog-

The Mad Hermit

Recommended Posts

Thank you for the compliments gentlemen. It helps to keep me in this project knowing that people actually see what I'm posting and such. Inspiring and it gives me confidence.

That said, I'm making good progress on the second Infantry Squad for First Platoon (Red Stripe).

After that I'm thinking one more Infantry squad for the platoon and then maybe (?) a special weapon squad.

Once the platoon is done, I was thinking of giving myself a break from the guardsmen by doing something else.

Right now, my 'something else' consists of one box of Ogryns (that I want to make as Bullgryns), a ten man squad of Ratling snipers, a single Sentinel, a ten man squad of metal Kasrkins, and a Leman Russ kit that dates back many many years and is only the basic LRBT.

Now, for the other platoons, I was thinking of making two of them. The colors for the shoulder striping is going to be a little on the corny side and have one in 'white' and the other in blue.

So having that part settled on, I'm now having a little dilemma that you guys could possibly help me with: what color should the stripe on the shoulder be for my Veteran Squads? Or for the Kasrkins for that matter?

I was thinking with going with a black stripe for the vets but I have kind of decided that the black might be more appropriate for the Kasrkin/Scions as they're like 'special forces/black ops' I guess.

So, if I go with black for the Kasrkin... I have no idea what to use for the veterans.

There will probably be two squads of veterans for now, as well.

Any insight or input will be appreciated.

Thanks, gentlemen.

Personally I would have the vets keep the shoulder stripe identical for the platoon they are attached to.

For my life guards my vets have identical uniform and identifying markings to the rest of the grunts, the only thing to tell the difference is the berets. Vets are just regular grunts who managed not to die, were as kaskarin/scions are specialised formations.

Thanks for the replies and the comments, gents.

I'm thinking I'm going to go with Baz's suggestion to go with the colored stripe of the platoon they'll be attached to. I'll be honest, I never thought of them as being attached to platoons but it makes sense now that I think on it.

I'm looking forward to the Bullgryns. They'll probably be what I paint once the first platoon is in the books.

I'm going to have to come up with a good story reason for the fact that my guys seem to have a good amount of plasma.

We'll see what I can come up with.

So, I have some things I've been working on.

Working with the CCS because... why not?

Just a teaser: I wasn't happy with using an actual metallic gold for the shoulder stripe of the CCS models so I have gone back to old school heraldry and have decided to use a nice yellow in place of the gold.

So far I'm happy with the decision.

Pics should be coming sometime this week.

Great stuff here indeed, very happy having a good look through, command squad is top shelf and looks it wub.gif

i must say with the Mortar teams i always like to turn the head facing away of the guy dropping the shell in the tube and have the shielding hand up as though he's trying to block out the "phoomp" sound as it fires.

really good find with the sand bags though thumbsup.gif

cheers Mithril

I, too, like my mortars... but I haven't played a game of 40K in going on 11 years, now.

I keep up with the current rules and codices, though.

I thought I'd share where I got the sandbags from with you all, my brothers-in-arms.

They're from the Tamiya 1/48 Scale Brick Wall, Sandbags, and Barricades set.

Each box comes with two sprues of the sandbags:

I've discovered that each sprue gives me enough sandbags to do up three HWTs with nine bags each and still have two bags left over.

So, having two of the boxes (without buying any more... which I likely will) I'll have enough sandbags to make a total of four of my Heavy Weapon Squads be properly dug in with a small wall of nine sandbags per base.

Now I just have to figure out which weapons to make dug in.

I knew I'd seen these elsewhere!

I blame you for not having a hobby update for us! ;)

Sorry for the lack of any updates at all for some time now, but I've been neck deep in a whole mess of old Mordheim stuff I've managed to get my hands on in the interim. Including a brand new, unopened starter box that was still in it's factory shrink-wrapping.

Side note, some of the heads from the human mercenaries from Mordheim might be making their way onto some Guardsmen.

Also, since I have ADHD of the hobby I've started to dive into reworking on my old Company Command Squad.

I promise that I'll have something to show of that soon.

I swear.
