Why would you give a model a Thunderhammer AND a Powerfist? o_O

A lightning claw is cheaper and does the same thing. But rule of cool always wins.

Vow logged!

So, I've had a Flesh Tearers Captain built for over a year but, as of last night, that is no longer the case as he is now in pieces. You see, I had lost him some time ago and only found him around two weeks ago. Apparently, he attached himself to a Militarum Tempestus squad for a covert mission to destroy a Chaos-infested wasteland without my knowledge - or, I found him in what I thought was an unused bits box :happy.:! Anyway, after finding him again, I decided it was time to restart my Flesh Tearers force.

I hadn't been on the B&C in around six months due to medical reasons but, since I've got the site "Liked" on Facebook, it kept me more-or-less abreast on some of the events that were happening. One day, as I'm looking at the aforementioned social media website, I read about this challenge / contest and the gears in my head started to turn. Had I not just found my lone Flesh Tearer? It was already on the schedule to add a cloak to him so I might as well vow and, more importantly, begin to interact again on the B&C.

How did he end up in pieces? Skillful use with a pair of flesh cutters! No, I joke - well, actually, that is what happened. I wanted to put a cloak on him, like I've said, but I didn't want to break out the Green Stuff and sculpt anything. I'm not up to that much of a hobby workload yet. It'll happen one day and I've got a set of brand new silicone-tipped sculpting tools waiting for me when the time comes. I digress. There is a Space Marine Captain that comes in the Space Marine Company Command Squad box that was being saved for a special occasion and he just happens to have a cloak. What better time to use him?

Foolish me thought that the cloak could just be added to the existing Captain. The challenge would be complete in a day - no, a few minutes. Well, come to find out, the cloak that attaches to the other Captain doesn't match a normal back torso piece. Nothing worth doing is ever easy. So, I had to deconstruct the already-built Flesh Tearers Captain with a pair of flesh cutters and easy pressure (I build with cyanoacrylate - superglue - for this reason). The torso did come apart easier than I thought it would.

Now I've got a pile of bits that will become my model... again.

Jolemai - I made it on a bare head first, and it looks less normal there, haha.  I could try rearranging it to be more like an Iron Halo, which would be nice because then I could just pass that weird head with a tiara from the upgrade sprue as a second one!

Vow complete for my Captain, hopefully I met all the requirements. There's a short write up in my WIP thread if anyone wants to read a bit more info on the model.

*snip*

:ohmy.::ohmy.::ohmy.:

That is some model and very characterful for a Captain too (reminds me a lot of the classic BA Captain). Congratulations on your completion and an excellent model to add to your painting queue!

Fancy another go?

Thanks Jolemai! That was exactly the kind of feel I was going for (Classic BA captain and Tycho). I've got a limited amount of BA bits but I may vow another model later if I get a good idea with bits :biggrin.:. I don't have the BA codex, is dual powerfist legal? Cause one idea I kinda want to do a BA or Flesh Tearers version of Calgar.

I agree, very awesome. But it does look a bit weird for him to be shouting while standing still. :biggrin.:

A drilled barrel would make him pretty much perfect in my eyes tho.

Thanks sfPanzer! Since he doesn't have his weapons drawn, I envisioned him as him barking out orders to his company or leading a war cry of some sort instead of having him stone faced. I'll definitely drill the barrel out but I just have a habit of doing it after priming :teehee:.

Sounds like you've been guided by Sanguinius. Looking forward to seeing the end result! Does it fit the event restrictions?

It is, yes.

Ok here goes

Axe positioning may not be final. I need to GS some blood drops here and there as well, but he's coming along.

That looks amazing. Where did you get those wings?

- Snip! -

Sounds like you've been guided by Sanguinius. Looking forward to seeing the end result! Does it fit the event restrictions?

I believe it does. I'm using the back torso piece and cloak from the Space Marine Company Commander. Well, now that I think about it, the first piece is easily 12.5 % of the restriction but the cloak is quite large.

I can do this: I'll modify - by way of a hobby saw - the original back torso piece, which came from a Tactical Squad box, to attach the cloak from the other Captain. Two cuts on each side, a little clean up, and maybe some Green Stuff to fill in any gaps and he's got his replacement piece :biggrin.:! All that's left to do after that is to make an Iron Halo from a Grey Knights box, glue him together, and take pictures.

Love what I'm seeing! Great work, everyone. I think I'm ready to go for number two!

I, Grazcruzk, rise to the challenge of The Great Baalite Bake Off and vow to kitbash DC Tycho, an ooc DC Chaplain, and an ooc Librarian. on or before April 3rd, 2017. Success will bring honour to the Scarlet Mantle, whilst failure is not an option...

The two ooc entries are older 3/4 metal guys that I'll only be adding new backpacks and arms to.

I, Xenith rise to the challenge of The Great Baalite Bake Off and vow to kitbash Mephiston, Lord of Death, as an out of comp entry, on or before April 3rd, 2017. Success will bring honour to the Blood Angels 4th Company, whilst failure is not to be contemplated.

So out of curiosity, how hard/easy has everyone found their first greenstuff/sculpting work to be? I have been mulling it over with a possible second vow but I feel like the internet makes sculpting seem way easier than it actually is. Thoughts? Encouragements?
