old git
For me it's model assembly. As might be inferred by my forum moniker I've built a fair few marines, rhinos, pods etc over the years. Building the models is merely something to get through before the interesting things happen. Sure, there may be a conversion or two along the way but cutting, filing, glueing...sheesh. To the point where I'm willing to part with a few quid extra (from eBay) if the models are already built. Anybody else? Olis
Just painting in general. I really REALLY struggle to be bothered with painting. Assembly? No problem. Painting? Nuh-uh. Dosjetka
Olis: You hardly have any excuses, what with the various IF events and the ETL. There's always something going almost every month. You just need to vow a few models, sit down, and paint. :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331351-your-biggest-hobby-chore-is/#findComment-4665807 Share on other sites

Major_Gilbear
Yep, gotta be mould line removal - no contest. Dull, tedious, involved, repetitive, and ignoring it (or missing any) totally spoils the rest of the effort you've made or will make. :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331351-your-biggest-hobby-chore-is/#findComment-4665886 Share on other sites
Father Mehman
I'm with Space Truckin on the mold lines. Building can be enjoyable because the model begins to take shape but only after those pesky lines are removed. Drilling barrels is more fun! Stoic Raptor
Absolutely mold line removal! I don't mind the other parts of assembly but I'm getting older and my bad eyesight is getting worse. I'd pay someone just to clean up my models, and maybe assemble them to my specification (and perhaps prime them). I love to paint and the prep work is honestly half the battle. Robzilla
Mold line removal. Echoing those above, I love the actual builds themselves, just mold lines are such a tedious task, and horrid if ignored. That sinking feeling when you're three airbrush layers in and you spot one. It takes over your life. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331351-your-biggest-hobby-chore-is/#findComment-4666029 Share on other sites

Tyberos the Red Wake
Mold line removal like everyone else, and also prepping the parts after removing moldlines for priming and painting since I paint almost entirely before assembly, which means tons of little arms and legs and heads being stuck to sticks. Building is pretty fun because you get to see the model come together and try cool poses before gluing. But I can see why people who just want to build a bunch of troops then paint them after building will see this as a chore stage. Red_Shift
It's bases for me. I have no idea why gw models don't come with scenic bases as standard now. I could by the sculpted one's separately I guess but I would have to re base two battle companies! Hfran Morkai
Painting here, love assembling and converting miniatures but am terrible at painting. K0rtmer
Yeah, removing mold lines. I'd pay somebody for that if I could afford it. Drilling gun barrels. Cleaning the airbrush. BadgersinHills
It's assembly, for me. The actual assembling itself is fine, but being arsed enough to do it is my main problem. sockwithaticket
Another vote for mould lines.Cleaning resin is also a dull, annoying task I wish I didn't have to do.I'd prefer edge highlights to be less time consuming and require less concentration, but I don't regard them as a chore. To the point where I'm willing to part with a few quid extra (from eBay) if the models are already built. Can't agree with this bit at all. I love posing my models, so they're actually a diverse group of individuals with realstic poses (I find there are an awful lot of models out there that are either boring or unrealistic) and mixing up parts from different kits. A D-B
Painting. For me, it goes in this order: I love assembling and kitbashing. I really like writing army background, even for individual squads. I like playing and making army lists. I don't like painting. At all. Spaced Hulk
When I first started in the hobby (which is scarily about 20 years ago now ☺), I always hated assembling metal models. I can remember spending what seemed like hours holding metal space marines (or metal/plastic hybrids) together while the super glue went off, then realising that I'd glued my fingers together, or thoroughly attached a Space Wolf Blood Claw to them, requiring it to be torn off painfully along with a big chunk of epidermis. I also remember the old second edition metal Devastators being extremely annoying to try to assemble. These days, plastic and resin models, combined with using better quality super glues or plastic glues, mean that building models is arguably my favourite part of the hobby. For a long, long time, I'd have said that painting was my biggest chore, and consequently put off doing any painting at all for years (resulting in a back log of unpainted models which realistically I know I'll never clear). However, a few years back I forced myself to start painting again, and found that that I do actually enjoy it now, even finding it quite therapeutic. I still buy more than I build, and build more than I paint, but my collection of painted models continues to grow. So, if I have to choose my biggest hobby chore, these days it has to be removing mould lines. Because apart from the sheer tedium of the task, no matter how long I spend cleaning them off, once I've undercoated the model I know there's at least a fifty-fifty chance of finding one I missed. Second place goes to washing the mould release agent off resin models. ☺ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331351-your-biggest-hobby-chore-is/#findComment-4666319 Share on other sites
