Invocators - beginning a CSM warband

Hi All,

I am hoping to get back into the hobby and just muck around with paint and glue a bit. I don't have a lot of time right now because of work and health commitments so I thought I would start small - I have thrown together some chaos marines to get me started again. I would appreciate any comments, ideas, or suggestions particularly on possible colour schemes.

I was reading about the abyssal crusade the other day, and came across the Invocators (formerly the Clerics of Steel). They are a total blank slate right now as far as I can find out, no images and no background, just a name. As a result they seem perfect for creating my own little band of evil minded reavers.

In terms of colours I was inspired by a piece of work I saw recently, the link is below - who would have thought green, silver, and pink would work to be so dynamic? https://garethnicholasblog.wordpress.com/2016/12/24/varanguard-work-in-progress-2/

So, with that as an inspiration I am thinking of two simple colour schemes - I am no great painter so something straightforward sounds good.

1) Arms, legs, and backpack in green. Torso and head silver. Trim might be another metallics, possibly something a bit corroded?

2) Legs, torso, head, and backpack in green. Arms in silver. Trim might be silver too, but another metallic might be worth considering.

Both would use that sort of light magenta/pink as a colour for eyes and power sources/plasma coils.

I don't know what to do with regard to a warband symbol, but either a rams head or a fleu-re-lis appeals to me a bit.

I have a sort of reverse Word Bearer's feel starting in my mind for them. They lost all elements of faith, and now use eldritch knowledge to bind daemons and try to avoid being trapped by the chaos gods. Cynical, jaded, and aloof. I am also toying with the idea of them having a connection to a minor chaos power of some kind, something that like them was betrayed and cast down but has survived and is growing in strength among the tombs of heroes and villains - a sort of ghoulish predator.

So, some pictures. If these have gone into the forum right, you should see a HQ first. The sorcerer was thrown together from bits from previous failed projects and random stuff, but has come out OK I think. He represents a sorcerer with a force mace and a combat familiar made out of the remains of an unfortunate genestealer who floats after him on a flare of warp energy.

Then we have two small five man marine squads. The first has close combat weapons and the champion and several of his colleagues can be seen here.

Then there are the bolters - standard reall, but their champion is at the side there with a customised combi-bolter.

Not a lot else to say right now, here is hoping I get to start throwing pain at them soon. Thanks for looking and all the best with your own hobby stuff - hopefully I will have some time and be able to browse the forum a bit in between packing to move house!

Take care - all the best
