The Binary Succession

Recommended Posts

It's an incredible audio, but does anyone else's audio cut off abruptly mid-sentence near the end and jump right to the end title? It seems like I am missing 5 minutes of audio if the website is accurate. Really unfortunate, I literally went from thinking "This is one of BL's best audios to date" to "Oh come on! What terrible editing!".

Not the problem for me - your file could be corrupted, redownload it again or change the player. Sometimes the issues are not on BL side teehee.gif

I stand corrected. Apologies, I've never had this happen before.

The mp3 I downloaded yesterday is titled "The Binary Succession updated", so looks like it's been changed on the BL site.

Really enjoyed it. This was all the Terran politicking and factionalism I wanted from The Beast Arises series, but better. As someone currently living in the UK, the term 'Brexit with titans' is indeed appropriate; I did have to grit my teeth in recognition a few times, particularly at the Terran councilor in the background shouting for the mechanicum to 'go back to Mars then!'dry.png

Was not expecting

the declaration of the Adeptus Mechanicus to be a central plot point, though perhaps I should have foreseen it. I did like how it was despised and argued over by literally everyone of significance at first: the Administratum saw it as a power grab at the council, Malcador fretted over it disrupting the balance on Terra, some tech priests were outraged because it was selling out Mars and Martian identity. The horse-trading and bureaucratic wrangling felt much more realistic than a lot of the other politics that usually appear in 30k/40k.

Great production values again. I found the female techpriest's voice (not ambassador Vethorel, the murderous one) really quite grating to listen to. It was perfectly understandable but there was a lot of harsh machine distortion around it. I get the inhuman effect they were going for and it absolutely worked but I'm glad she only had a few lines.

EDIT: For anyone on the fence about listening to it, this is absolutely one of the least 'bolter-porn' affairs that BL has ever done, to the point where there is almost no physical action.

As for AM it was expected to happen at some point. Through I was not expecting it to happen 'so early' myself.

Also as you mentioned - the quality is amazing. I did not enjoyed such a lovely voiceover and music coverage in a long while

I am wary of audiobooks but you guys have convinced me, along with a review here and there.

Ordered the CD.

Strangely the audio about Titans without any Titans real 'action' - is one of the best from BL yes.gif It seems like to make it cool (cause absent usual big shooty shooty) they pushed a lot of resources to it.

Finally had the time and patience to listen to this one. What a joy. I'm glad I held off on it til I had the focus to just sit back and listen, because this one's incredible. Easily a candidate for best HH audio drama so far. Great balance of politics, tension and an amazing audio production.

Patience? Due to the 'amazing' quality of general voiceover it's should have hooked you from the start

Indeed one of the best audios. But 'Soul/Severed' wins still - cause of 'that' sonic kakaphony voiceover :)

It'd still be pointless to listen to it when I can't say if I'll be able to listen to 75 minutes straight without distractions or falling asleep. It wasn't something I wanted to integrate into an already stressful week, so I waited til I had the time and focus to give it the attention it deserved.

Not a matter of getting hooked or not, but of not wanting to have to pause or relisten to sections because something else comes up.

Can't say I'm that fond of The Soul, Severed. The audio production was great and the scream was amazing, but plotwise it just didn't do that much for me. It was a great little piece for the Emperor's Children but not exactly something I'd listen to again for the simple joy of it all clicking into place.

I totally agree - but that sound - delicious msn-wink.gif

I know what you mean by finding the right time to listen to this sort of thing.

I started it in the car earlier, and liked the start a lot, but if you can't finish or aren't in the mood it's not going to work.

Didn't like the Soul Severed either btw. Or any of the other two audio's in the Echoes of Revelation collection due next month.

That's the first time I will recommend to listen to an audio (in case of 'Soul/Severed') instead of reading it. Cause 'sonic' sounds are brilliant

Just finished this one myself, and yeah, loved it. The focus is firmly on the political side of things, which is something I think the HH as a whole could do with more of. It made me think of Game of Thrones in that respect: yes, the battles and fighting can be epic and wonderfully visceral, but equally important is the politics behind it and the characters who get to shine in those moments.

It also seems, to me, to further emphasise that David Annandale's forte really is outside conventional battle scenes, the more "non-standard" parts of this series. The Chaos-worshipping tribal society in Sermon of Exodus, the horror of Chaos in Damnation of Pythos, the tension and societal breakdown in The Traveller, the brutal determination of Kaparnos in Iron Corpses, and now this. These are the points where he really ascends, IMO.

in fact, you can hear just how they did that on the ep 190 BL audio interview I just posted. msn-wink.gif

Indeed. As I mentioned in review for his latest 'Warlord' book - the best part of the latest novel is not Titans action, but Chaos corruption and views on fate nad what's need to be done in the name of the victory. But then it comes to the bolter-porn, he struggles.

veterannoob -

awesome! Thanks for great stuff as usual :)
