SW1
Hmmm ... Well I've taken a saw to some of the SWA scenery I've already assembled. I've got 4 bits that I think will work well being combined with other bits. Eak ... Just need to see with fresh eyes in the morning if it was a success or not. SW1
Not sure the hacksaw treatment was such a bright idea but it'll give me so etching to work from. The wife's wanting to claim back a chunk of the space the building bits are currently taking up so I've spent the last week or more sorting stuff out. I've come to realise the mound of plasticard is a jumbled mess of different thicknesses and I don't really have enough of any thickness to start on building what I want. So I'll need to buy in a load of plasticard before trying to build what I want. All my foam board also seems a bit bashed in thanks to the kids using it to make slides out of down the stairs!!! I've got a bit more sorting to do to keep the wife happy then I can crack on with building more. Long term storage has been sorted once built as I've emptied the big display cabinets of the random bits that had ended up in them. Just need to make sure any builds fit within them. SW1
Illness has plagued the family the last two weeks, so little progress has been made on more building. However I have done several days of sorting out stuff and I'm slowly getting to the point where I know where most of the building materials I've built up over the years is. The down side to this is the space I'd cleared for the build to go is now full of those materials. So there's going to be a bit of a juggling act to start off with. I've probably got another week of sorting out to do before I get to the point where the hobby stuff is stored neat enough that I can crack on with the build properly without taking over the kitchen again. SW1
An aweful lot more sorting has had to be done as the wife noticed how much stuff was in the kitchen an living room finally. I have more space cleared and I'm getting a little more clever with storage. The new moto is "what the wife can't see she can't throw away"! Lol ... Ikea units with the canvas draws/boxes makes things look clear and neat. The same stuff is there just not visable so the wife is now happy. :tu: My brother has started showing an interest again in Necromunda so we spent all day yesterday trying out different paint schemes. It did mean that my interest in getting my own gangs started was piqued. So once I'd got him on his way home I got out the Escher. I did take the knife to a Catachan grenade launcher (yes the rare female one) to convert up a heavy stubber. Still in the rough in stages and plenty of gs needed to finish it off. There was a few who have had arms or other limbs snap off. Managed to save two of them by replacing forearms. One got the arm of a plastic Chaos cultist with a threaded bar and a few big nuts on the end. The other got a GS Cult power pick. As long as all the other little fixes work out I will have the following to build my gang up from ... Leader - Bolter, laspistol and knife Heavy - Heavy stubber and knife Heavy - Plasmagun, pistol and knife 2x Ganger - Lasgun, pistol and knife 2x Ganger - Autogun, pistol and knife Ganger - Autogun, stubgun and knife 2x Ganged - Shotgun and autopistol Ganged - Shotgun and knife Ganger - Autopistol and sword 2x Ganger - Autopistol and club Juve - Autopistol and club 2x Juve - Stubgun and club Pics will follow probably Tuesday as I'm working all weekend and it got too late last night to take decent pics. SW1
Been a bit busy with sorting out and working out the best way to make the Necromunda build work. I've got a load of train scenery from the local train shop. Mainly Dapol kits there's quite a few showing possiblities mainly a footbridge, a train turntable and a girder bridge as well. They are really too small a scale to build without adjustment though. For example the footbridge if built as the kit comes is only about 20mm wide so even a 25mm base won't fit on it. But widening and altering the steps works nicely. Just using the main part of the bridge I can get an 8" long span which gives about 1.5" clearance under it. If I use all of the bits that come with the kit I can make it have just under 3.5" clearance. The height extenders do have support legs, so it would still be able to clear the same 8" gap but would end up being around 15" long. Playing with scale is the biggest challenge when mixing kits. So adding the train stuff to the 3 scales of the 3 GWS sets of kits meant 4 completely different scales. I think the way I'm altering the train stuff brings it within a reasonable scale to the original bulkheads so I'm going to gun for making the other kits fit this scale as well. After a fair bit of fiddling around with the CoD kits I've decided that the normal doors from that kit will not feature in this build. I may incorporate the fancy eagle doors into something like an Arbites Precinct or possibly one of the entrances to get through "The Wall" (the bit that seperates the Hive from the lower sections). The rest of the wall sections ended up being fairly easy to convert. I found it you chop the bottom section with all the horizontal pipes off it drops the wall sections to just under the height of a bulkhead. This also gives me some interesting looking pipe work bits to add elsewhere in the build. The SWA kits at first glance are huge. But that's only if you use them as instructed. The tall walkway legs can be reserved to mount watchtowers on. The rest of the big containers/vessels can be used as just that. The pipe connection points snuggly fit brass connectors for gas pipes and if you connect the connectors with plastic water pipe you can make a much bigger refinery than GWS envisaged from the contense of the SWA boxed game for not much extra. All the extra random bits from the box can and will be plundered to add detail to the rest of the build. So even though it's been quiet on the blog front I have been slowly beavering away making sure things will fit together while retaining a hodgepodge look. SW1
Bit of a breakthrough with getting stairs sorted rather than relying on ladders. Combining some of the footbridge bits together while chopping off other parts will give me a stairs that has a top step level with the top of the old bulkheads. The leftover bits will allow me to lengthen other bridges using the same kit or use the parts to add similar details to other builds. Just need to cut an A1 sheet of 5mm foamboard into strips a bulkhead high in width. Then the fun can begin. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/332758-sw1s-scenery-necromunda-blog/page/5/#findComment-4920880 Share on other sites

SW1
Not been hobbying for a long time. Been going through a bit of a rough patch over the last 3 months. The lads have started to rekindle my hobbyfoo with wanting 40k related stuff for Xmas. So we'll see if the blog wakes up and finds it's legs again or not. I'm hoping it will do. SW1
Well I've been working on getting myself back into the hobby. This involved carving out a space to hobby in from what had become a bit of a dumping ground for things that didn't really have their own place. It started off looking quite neat and tidy. I even made some shelves with Lego and some timber!!! The wife was happy as well ... But then I started using it and it became a proper hobby space ... The main direction I'm going is to finish off models that have been in a WIP for ages. So my Brothers GSC and random members of the Inquisition plus some Spyrers have all found their way into the hobby space. There's also some BB Teams which will be worked on as well. First to be finished is an old school Inquisitor in TDA with converted Daemon Hammer ... Then there's the pile of 25mm bases which need to be sorted out ... And here's the first lot finished ... Though now I'm looking at the finished bases I may end up adding some more details to the Inquisitors base. And finally here's Burt the first of my brothers GSC on one of the bases ... SW1
January saw me finish quite a few models off as I've got involved in a Finish your models challenge ... Ended up finishing a very mixed set of models totalling 38. The was ... - 1 GSC Patriarch - 2 GSC Genestealers - 11 GSC Neophytes - 1 Inquisitor in TDA - 1 Astropath - 1 Vindicare Assassin Then for Necromunda ... - 2 Beastmasters - 3 Milliasaurs (converted from Nid Gribblies) - 15 Ripper Jacks (converted from WHFB Vampire Bats) - 1 Malcadon Spyrer All models bar 3 models have been painted fully and based this year. The 2 Genestealers just got based up and the Patriarch had a bit of painting to sort out where I'd messed up a bit plus the basing. My blog on Yaktribe has many more pics ... https://yaktribe.games/community/threads/sw1s-necromunda.6124/page-13#post-183716 This month I've painted up another 5 Spyrers, 2 Assassins, an Inquisitor in PA (my Illa Felix for anyone who remembers the fluff I wrote about two years or so ago) and 3 cyber-mastiffs (old WHFB Dark Elf War Dogs which look like Rottweilers). I've started converting up a handler for them from a scout, just waiting for some GS to arrive so I can finish the conversion. I've got the rest of an Enforcers Team on the painting table currently along with my Orlocks and load of other random bits and bobs. The aim is to hit at least a model a day for the rest of the year if not more.
