Laughingman
I love the idea of blackshields and the lore behind them. You just never see them on the table top for a variety of reasons. What would you do to change that? I'm interested in hearing about what you guys (and gals) think. Noserenda
Nothing wrong with their list, i just think they lack the fluff and the broad appeal of the legions tbh Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/332893-making-blackshields-good/#findComment-4709573 Share on other sites

Laughingman
I personally think rules wise a couple of issues exist: The reaver lord costs significantly more then a equally equipped praetor and does not have access to a AP2 at initiative. No command squads, if you want your reaver lord or HQ to join a terminator squad and want to transport them into battle you need to have a spartan, stormeagle, or kharybdis assault claw. The Wrought be war traits are interesting but can scare perspective players (Outlander in particular, with the prospect of failed leadership tests causing your units to teleport away mid game). Unknown Legionnaire
I see your points, but I'm inclined to say that they're quite subjective and also a bit dependant on your local gaming scene. The reaver lord is an absolute beast in close combat, that can ID T5 and has an 3up invulnerable save. Though most Blackshields lists I've seen rather rely on a Consul of sorts to buff certain units. Personally, I wouldn't care about the command squad issue in the slightest. You can easily build a different retinue for your HQ. The Wrought by War traits are all quite usable, one just has to build around them. A T6 Reaver Lord on a Jetbike with a S10 Thunderhammer and a 3+ doesn't need to strike at I ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/332893-making-blackshields-good/#findComment-4709681 Share on other sites
Sandlemad
The lack of unique special units, characters and primarchs might contribute too, with their concurrent model support. Some folks get into particular legions at least in part because they love their phoenix guard or BL's efforts about particular characters. Blackshields are extremely compelling but the 18 legions have FW model lines, novels, and 20 years of background. I suspect that most folks just starting out in 30k don't even know that Blackshields exist. Hellrender
I find that blackshields have very heavy restrictions on their armylist choices that you need to have a good reaaon to play blakshields. If you have a good piece of fluff in your mind then go for it.. Charlo
They're a labour of love, one for the people who don't like the traditional legions and want to give the galactic middle finger to everyone :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/332893-making-blackshields-good/#findComment-4710390 Share on other sites
