I have access to the whole array of books in PDF, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post them here.

 

From a first look in the Rulebook, there is no mention of terrain slowing movement. Only charging through terrain is impeded (add 2")

So no more difficult terrain tests!!!

 

 

Only if they are craters. It says nothing about adding 2" in ruins.

You know, it just occurred to me that since we share the same Assault Marines entry with the vanilla guys, we're probably losing access to our meltaguns.

That would be awful. :sad.:

 

Yup, meltacide is gone. BA just get vanilla assault squads; only melee, pistol & meltabomb options for sgt, up to 2 can take a flamer or plasma pistol, 1 in 5 can take an eviscerator. I've not looked at vanilla sm for ages, were they always that bad? 

 

Hmm, maybe death company might have a role now as inferno/plasma pistol carriers? Deepstrike a squad of overcharged plasma for TEQ hunting. Inferno pistols might be better in a surprise rhino or jump skulking behind one since they can't get in deep strike range. Hah -  or use the fly rule to CC aircraft with thunderhammers etc - given we STILL don't have any dedicated anti-flyer weapons?

 

No drop-pod for dreads sucks. I was thinking a death company dread in a pod with magna grapple and lemartes jump dropping nearby (with some DC to go heavy infantry hunting) would make a lovely vehicle smasher. Though it might work for a turn 2 stormraven drop-off?

 

New variant on the BBQ tactical squad; multiple units can share a transport now I think, so two 5 man squads  = 2 hvy flamers, two combi weapons/stormbolters on sgt. Not so great from a pod due to 8" range, but not a bad rhino surprise.

I want to like Inferno Pistols as it's one of our few ways of adding flavour, but they still seem overpriced trash.

 

More expensive than last time. 6" range still, so you can't shoot if from a jump pack assault. Sure you can shoot it in CC, but only from your second turn in cc if you've charged- by which time you've either blown through the unit, or they've fallen back.

 

If it was 10pts cheaper, or had 9" range I'd probably consider it. As it stands I'm probably not going to bother

Only Baals now can have them. :sad.:

I know this is us minus a proper codex, but it feels like a lot of flavour is being lost.

So after getting to read all the index releases, I'm pretty damn bummed out about BA. We lost so many more options than other armies, took some nerfs that hit quite hard, and gained basically nothing. Overcharged engines may as well not exist, Death Company are laughable when compared to khorne, flayed ones, TW Cavalry etc, our unique dreadnoughts are now basically the same as vanilla dreads with very small weapon differences; and with dreads no longer being able to pod in, lot of good having CC focused dreads is since they have to walk, Lemartes is the only character with any flavor whatsoever ruleswise, and we still don't have the :cussing stormtalon/hawk.

 

Just so much wasted potential it makes me sad. Were literally marines(-) at this point till we get a codex, and that's just really :cussed. Not having melta's in our assault squads is I think what got my blood actually boiling though. Bleh. Guess I'll be playing necrons till our codex drops.

I'm certain TWC and Wolfen are going to be hit super hard just like death co.....oh, farts.

To be fair TWC have been nerfed with the split of attacks between the rider and the mount. No more 5 attacks with a S10 fist, now 2 attacks with a S8 fist and three doggy attacks.

Wulfen still seem pretty strong, although they have been up-pointed.

So it's possible I'm missing something buttt...

 

Sanguinary guard - angelus bolters are 9pts.

SG entry says any model can replace angelus bolter with inferno or plasma pistol.

Inferno pistol is 20pts... But According to SM war gear list (as it's not in BA one) - Plasma pistols are 7 points.....

We can upgrade all guard to plasma and actually save 2ppm??

So it's possible I'm missing something buttt...

Now that plasma isn't insta-death (unless you overcharge), AND they are less, I think plasma is now the goto weapons. Inferno (and hand flamer for other units) are more for cool points rather than actual effectiveness.

The way I understand it, the point costs are cumulative, but in this case, you simply add the cost for plasma pistol.

Take into consideration that it is wounding on 3+ and only does 1 damage, unless you over charge in which case anything T5 or better is still only wounded on 3s where as before you would wound on 2s. 

Have to admit, I'm looking forward to FW's index of the IAv2SE. I know it'll be the same for every other Marine player, but we'll get an awful lot of mileage out of that book IMO.

I'm really intrigued to see how the Caestus ends up... I've used it in a criminally low amount of games since I got it.

 

...Just the one Apoc I think :s
