Pretty much as title goes (and taking inspiration from the recent Baal Bake-Off, amongst other recent events), but with a twist; the participant doesn't choose what chapter they'll be representing. It's randomly selected following an initial registration period.

With a little mucking around online, it shouldn't be too difficult to create a tool that generates a random word - in this case, a chapter. Using available resources such as the Lexicanum and Warhammer 40,000 Wikia, putting together a comprehensive (and marginally accurate list, for the 41st/42nd Millennium) shouldn't be too hard.

It's sort of like those painting challenges you get where you pick three or five paints at random; it'll force people out of their comfort zone, and encourage them to try something they may not necessarily try.

I have been wanting to run another of my challenges.....Why not Primaris Marines?

I'll do it. We'll kick it off the first full month after their release. I already have an idea for generating the Chapters. Basically the sign-up threads will have the list with myself randomly choosing the first participants chapter. Then the first participant will nominate the second chapter (from the list) at the time of their vow, for the person to sign-up after them. Then the second participant will nominate the chapter of third, and so on, and so forth.

Do it... Do it....

I won't falter this time :)

Primaris Legion of the Damned would be sweet. They wouldnt be allowed by the fluff tho.

Codex Legion of the Damned may support them.

"Imperial scholars believe it is a Chapter’s burning conviction that the guilty must be punished that gives the phantoms of the Legion a physical form. There are radicals amongst the Librarius who have a similar theory, though they believe the Legion of the Damned is a kind of manifestation, conjured by Mankind as a whole. They believe that the subconscious power of hope is so strong, that when combined with the nascent psychic abilities that lurk within Humanity’s minds and a stimulus of imminent death, it can potentially be made reality. The Adeptus Astartes have come to embody both hope and terror to a beleaguered Imperium, and the form of deliverance and vengeance alike is the broad silhouette of the Space Marine."

How obscure will the chapters be? Will it be loyalist only?

I'll be randomising the selection from all known chapters active at the end of the 41st Millennium that have known heraldry. Consecrators, Scythes of the Emperor, Howling Griffin's, etc.

As Rashbold suggested, if the Legion of the Damned support Primaris then they'll be included. I wouldn't anticipate the event starting until a week-and-a-half to two weeks after the new edition (and presumably, Primaris-related box set) launches, to give people time to manoeuvre around the new models.

Now that we have a pre-order date of June 3rd and a release date of June 17th, I think it's safe to angle to launch the challenge sometime on or around July 1st. I still need to clear this with the administration, as well as finalise the thread and supporting artwork.

Check your messages :)

As far as authorisation goes, if you're happy to run it from The Forge with either 1 thread, or split sign-up/completion threads I can give the go ahead :tu:

It's only the big, multi-sub forum events that really need larger "authorisation".

Why include the random Chapter bit? Some hobbyists only want to paint minis for gaming, and they might not want to paint up a mini for a random other Chapter. This might turn some hobbyists away from the challenge and doesn't appear to provide any real value.

Maybe have the random bit be optional?

I am up fro painting one in whatever colours are picked for me personally.
