Brilliant and gritty, double thumbs up from me. Like Pheidias said the shaved heads really improve those sculpts.

Were I to be nitpicky I'd say tidy up the black rims as there's some brown spillover, but you've almost certainly thought of that already. I really, really like these guys.

They are beautiful and they deserve eyes. You can do it!

I can but it's not a great priority right now ;)

Thanks. Yes, the rims got stained with weathering powder - which I didn't really notice until I took the photos - and have since been cleaned up.

Nice bunch of Skinheads! This subtle stubble looks great!

I'm glad the shaved heads have proven so popular. I think it really helps.

The stubble was simply Lahmian medium and light grey, as per Duncan's tutorial :tu:

Thanks for the praise!

I just completed a Mentor Legion librarian in terminator armour. I like the old, original metal TDA librarian and wanted to do one as close as possible to that so I de-wolfed the Finecast SW TDA rune-Priest, converted his storm bolter to a combi-plasma (okay, that's not a throwback to the old model. It's a tactical choice) and added a chest from the Bretonnian men-at-arms box, a FW etched brass Aquila and some scrolls. And a tall base to give the old boy a boost when he stands next to his more modern TDA peers.

med_gallery_63428_11269_537687.jpg

And with the terminator squad

Very cool librarian, I was actually thinking about doing the same thing for my Ultramarines not too long ago.

Thanks. If you like the old look of the librarian - I did the conversion because I wanted a librarian like the original metal one - then I recommended it. With the Rune-priest being Finecast it's not so difficult to 'clean him up'. Removing the trinkets and wolf-stuff from the front of the chest took the longest. You could always cut him in two at the waist and add a spacer (or use modern TDA legs) if you wanted him to be a bit taller. I did make some GS bodysuit/piping between the torso and arms for a little more bulk there and to pose the arms outward (rather than directly forward) a little.

Awesome weathering on the white. Really like what you did with the scouts. Never been a huge fan of the head sculpts but looking at yours it honestly wasn't something that bothered me. The retro termi librarian looks great with the rest of the squad. Really enjoyable to have a read through.

“Chapter master Ran-Thawll,” The techmarine bowed his head and made an Aquila salute over his chest.

“What am I looking at, techmarine?” Nisk Ran-Thawll indicated the charred and twisted vehicle half buried in the burned-out jungle clearing. About them chapter scouts had secured the perimeter. There were no hostiles in the sector but the fauna was hostile enough.

“Dark Angels flyer, sir.”

The beak of the master’s mark six helmet nodded. “And either Ravenwing or it was carrying quite some incendiaries.” The wreck was as black as the void. It was hard to see what was scorching and what was paintwork. There were fragments of stonework, elegantly carved workmanship too, scattered about. Hooded, winged figures with swords. He cocked his head as he looked over the remains of the plane, mentally piecing together how it might once have looked.

“No Storm Talon or Hawk.”

“No, sir. Nothing I’ve ever seen.” The techmarine reached out a finger to touch what looked like a panel of stained glass that protruded from beneath the flyer’s nose. That it had landed belly-up had saved the strange, fragile-looking contraption. “No idea what this is, sir. The gaudiest searchlight I’ve ever seen, or...” His voice trailed off and he shrugged. “And one of my brother techmarines reports having recovered a mysterious warhead from a swamp two clicks south of here. We believe the pilot jettisoned it before he went in.”

“An STC the first legion didn’t feel like sharing, huh? Crew?”

One of the techmarine’s servoclaws extended toward where a large rock had stopped the upturned craft’s slide, and caved in the cockpit.

“Pilot’s not even good for geneseed.”

“But?” The chapter master sensed the other had more to say.

“Sir, I discovered a secure chamber within the fuselage of the craft...”

Nisk cocked his head, looking at the flyer from different angles. It would have to be a damned well hidden compartment. And to what purpose? An officer’s personal transport?

“...there is evidence that someone was within, but extricated themselves post-crash.”

The chapter master frowned as he took it all in.

“No tracks?”

“None, master.”

“Nearest Dark Angel vessel?”

“None that we know of for several sectors, master.”

“And how did you find this, techmarine?” From the look of the crash site, and the fact that the jungle had already started to reclaim parts of the burned away area, he figured it predates the Eldar raiders that had brought the Mentor Legion to the planet.

“An anonymous tip off, sir.”

“We’re not the Adeptus Arbites, techmarine. Explain yourself,” Ran-Thawll grunted.

The other shrugged again, “A signal. General Astartes battle-channel. Just a single cycle. We picked it up as we began to lift and tracked it down to this area before it went dead. Then we found the crash site.”

Nisk nodded, satisfied. His mind made up.

“What’s the word, chapter master?” Inquired the techmarine.

“The word, marine, is ‘yoink’. That is the word. Get this thing up to our ship.”

:D I finished my Mentor Legion Dark Talon (after some hiccups with varnish frosting causing a repaint).

And this is how the first company looks so far:

  • 5 weeks later...

An unnamed (actually no Mentors have been named yet!) captain. I put a ‘I’ on his knee but will probably model the first captain in TDA in the future. Perhaps this is him when he wants to strut about in something more form-fitting.

Though I’m not putting banners on any other models in the army (rather I’ll do some banners as objective markers) I had to with this guy’s commanding pose :D

He wears a (likely symbolic) camo cloak in the same design as the (coming soon) scout snipers. My WIP tactical squad also carry rolled up camo sheets.

The second captain I have in the works has more of a fighting pose, on-the-front-with-the-rest-of-the-brethren, and so no banner.
