mc warhammer
I doubt this will be it. I’m trudging through the opening chapters. Finding it hard to focus on it. Admittedly I haven’t much reading time at the minute a few minutes each lunchtime but it’s not grabbing me. Could be the purple putting me off.... hoping it is just the purple... mc warhammer
i'm hoping to find one depiction of fulgrim (other than abnett's) from BL that i can enjoy. I can't seem to recall Abnett ever writing Fulgrim himself. Sure you're not thinking of McNeill? well, abnett wrote about fulgrim in HR (which really set the expectations that i felt weren’t met by mcneill) and some brief scenes with fulgrim in PB. Izlude
They shipped out my LE copy. It has been a while since I read Fulgirm (HH novel), wonder if it is worth reading again. Sadly my only memory of that book was some bipolar artist's orgy.. DarkChaplain
I was just confused that Abnett would be the one to set the baseline for a character he only tangientally mentioned in a novel, and never again afterwards iirc. The only thing Dan depicted regarding Fulgrim was that Horus was quite annoyed about his choice of commander, but that really didn't add much to the Phoenician in my eyes. The only thing Dan depicted regarding Fulgrim was that Horus was quite annoyed about his choice of commander, but that really didn't add much to the Phoenician in my eyes.that might either show dan’s strength as a writer, or my susceptibility to his words. the expectation he laid out for fulgrim’s credo of perfection being one of purity and NOT arrogance and that the primarch and his legion were essentially a bipolar mix of tarvitz and lucius. instead we got someone who was totally arrogant and even less charming than lucius. even though we were constantly told fulgrim and manus were bffs, i couldn’t for the life of me see how from the text the confusion might also come from “set the baseline” being your words, not mine Edited October 29, 2017 by mc warhammer Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/336201-primarch-book-6-fulgrim/page/5/#findComment-4919780 Share on other sites
bluntblade
I love how Scars had a latter-day Fulgrim contrasted against Sanguinius, but it's obviously a deeply unsympathetic portrayal from the Khan's POV. I want to see the more vulnerable, more idealistic Fulgrim in another book. mc warhammer 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/336201-primarch-book-6-fulgrim/page/5/#findComment-4919888 Share on other sites

Indefragable
Tangentially, for what it’s worth, I think Fulgrim is one of the best* HH novels since it covers so much ground in a single volume. When I think back, so many HH novels rely so heavily on what happened in others, but Fulgrim is self contained. Even now, years later, I remember it fondly for that reason. *im not saying it’s the best writing or story or character development or bolter porn or such. I mean that it’s one of the best HH books on my shelf because of the experience reading it JH79, DarKnight and Taliesin 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/336201-primarch-book-6-fulgrim/page/5/#findComment-4921169 Share on other sites

That Reynolds produced something as creative as Primogenitor shows that this aspect of professionalism (i.e. aiming for 40k works over fantasy because space marine books sell better) definitely isn't mutually exclusive with good work, if anyone still felt that way. I had assumed that he got the Fulgrim primarch novel job at least partially on the strength of his EC work around Fabius but there you go. EDIT: Also I'll second the call for thoughts, spoilers or otherwise. Not going to be reading this until the regular edition comes out in January. mc warhammer
he was my favourite primarch from the IA articles, but BL's depiction of him (so far), hasn't worked with my own. and that's totally cool and fine and all that. but i'm still hoping for a fresh perspective to be added on Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/336201-primarch-book-6-fulgrim/page/5/#findComment-4922390 Share on other sites
Knockagh
Going to have to eat my hat with this book. Hellath
I am only 50 pages in, but it annoys me a bit that Fabius is now Terran when ADB stated he was born on Chemos in Black Legion. I didn’t read Primogenitor, thus I have no idea if his origins were discussed there, but I that is quite a slip from the editors, I reckon. Jareddm
I saw this get posted on lexicanum: "Fulgrim describes how 7 of his brothers doubted that the Emperor's Children were worthy due to their handful of legionaries when Fulgrim took over. Named only the "master of the Second," Fulgrim discusses that the "normally contemplative" brother also joined the other 6. b1soul
By now, these meaningless references to the Second or Eleventh are getting old. I didn’t read Primogenitor, thus I have no idea if his origins were discussed there, but I that is quite a slip from the editors, I reckon. Fabius was Terran. He was trying to fix the dwindling Legion when they suffered from that odd Blight. Extinction was only avoided by reuniting with Fulgrim, but the old Terran Legionaries couldn't be fully patched-up. New recruits got lucky in that they were able to utilize newly brewed gene-seed thanks to Fulgrim's return to the fold. Fabius meanwhile is stuck with the decay of his body, to this day, which is why he cloned himself over and over to perform brain transplants and he still hasn't managed to heal his own unstable genetic code. In Chirurgeon by Nick Kyme (which was pretty good), Fabius even muses on coming to Chemos, fighting alongside the Emperor, the sons of Europa and what not. So yes, the mistake would be on AD-B's part, if it is a factual statement and not just a mistaken character, or a generalization due to Chemos being the old Legion homeworld. Either way, Fabius is one of the few remaining Terran ECs.
