Hopefully the sights make them kommanDOES not kommanDON’Ts :P

Im just getting you back for the terrible jokes earlier in the thread.

It appears - having seen the new kill team trailer - that kommandos are en vogue right now :D

I made the fifth member of the squad and added a lookout squig on a pole for the nob (“Periscrote” he shall be named). I also gave each of them a lot of skull trophies…

med_gallery_63428_13471_41378.jpeg

med_gallery_63428_13471_530155.jpeg

I undercoated them black but then ran out of my Tamiya olive green spray. I will buy another one today.

I have also started work on five stormboys. I will post pictures of them soon.

Great work there, those Kommando's have lotsa character...

i guess if they're shooting misses they'll be KommanDOH'S  :tongue.: ...sorry you paved the way for that one...

Yeah all those new Kommando models and killteam etc...orks are all the rage for this next half year... you will get enough new models to mix in with your feral boyz

Thanks, Magos!

The choppy nobs are finished!

Let’s hope no weapon options change/disappear when the codex comes out! :D

For the first time I used some of the glyph decals on their back banners, rather than freehanding them, for speed, weathering them afterwards and I like them. I’m looking forward to seeing the new decal sheet.

Here’s the full mob, with the Waaargh banner-wielding nob:

med_gallery_63428_13471_272196.jpeg

med_gallery_63428_13471_124123.jpeg

Big nob with killsaw and choppa. We rarely see a 6th company marine so I gave him a trophy Ultramarine shoulder pad from the 6th company.

The right side of their back banners (and the three who have back plates instead) show the labyrinth snake symbol of Waaargh Grimsnaga. The left side of their banners have their name glyphs and the gore-tusk marking of this mob itself.

med_gallery_63428_13471_86485.jpeg

I thought I’d given him the glyphs for “grod nob” (best friend nob) but I accidentally gave him the unfortunate “gob nob” :D

Power klaw and choppa.

med_gallery_63428_13471_118695.jpeg

They being nobs, I gave each a lot of freehand (hence i must admit I kinda burned out and used decals for the banners at the end) and tried to make them individual.

Now to finish the kommandos by the weekend!

Sheesh, that was a lot to look at, (let alone Paint them :laugh.: )  tremendously well done and fastidiously detailed Orks (those words should theoretically never appear in a sentence with the word Ork :tongue.:

I'm going to presume to  say that this ork army is your one true army?, the one that all your 40k love and enthusiasm is being poured into?... cause if this is a "side Project" then I'd love to see what your main focus is :biggrin.: ...

All my 40K stuff is packed away (we're crazily organising to move house in 2 weeks -  During a COVID Lockdown and also we all have to reapply for our jobs at my work as well... how many crazy stressful things can happen within a small window of time :ermm:  ) so i'm really getting antsy for painting some Orks for stress relief!! , I will say I'm very happy to get a look at your stuff in the meantime

Cheers, Mithril

++EDIT++

Those Khormando's are excellent !

Edited by mithrilforge

Hi, Mithril. Thank you very much! By all means, model vicariously via this thread :D I’ll be picking up my Beast Snagas on Sunday. I think I’ll do Zodgrod first.

I’m very sorry to hear about your situation! :( I wish you the best of luck with the move and job (the latter in particular sounds like a [expletive deleted] deal).

Thanks bud,

I think I'll be fine out the other end of all this but yeah the stress is not needed

Ha i knew Zogrod Wortsnagga would be the first thing you'd do :biggrin.:  ....

OOH you get the dex too i just realised :whistling: ... perhaps you could recommend some new loadouts for us ...while we wait for Orktober to bring us the new Dex

Cheers, Mithril

I’ll be picking it up on Sunday…but will be away Mon/Tues so will get started on Wed. If you have any codex Qs (that others haven’t answered yet) I can answer them then :)

I hear Kommandos can have burnas, so I’ll make a sixth kommando with a big oil squig (and perhaps a burning torch in his other hand) :D

I want to give Zodgrod his eyepatch and backbanner.

Got my Beast Snaggas!

Giving Zodgrod back his facial scar, eyepatch and backbanner :tu:

med_gallery_63428_13471_58618.jpeg

med_gallery_63428_13471_133322.jpeg

And it seems I’ll need to make five more kommandos to give them the special weapons. All in good time.

The current five are finished, I just haven’t had time to get out the photobox.

That's more like it  ...  please paint him up exactly the same colours if you can (well, only if you want to :tongue.: )

looking forward to seeing your version of painting up one of those squig mounts...

I can't remember, have you posted your green skin recipe? Because if not you need to, it's really good! I'm spying Militarum Green for the basecoat (which is also the colour I use for my AoS Gitz incidentally) unless my colour recognition has gotten worse! Definitely looking forward to seeing how Zodgrod turns out anyway.

Also I have to say the Black Orc conversions are brilliant! I've wondered about using that old kit for Ork conversions in the past, so good to see you had the same thought!

Thank you!

I’ve just now put my skin recipe in the first post, but here it is too:

Ork Skin

My quick recipe is:

Basecoat - Deathworld Forest

Heavy drybrush - Elysian Green

Light drybrush - Ogryn Camo

Wash - Athenian Camoshade

Or if I’ve got a bit more time (characters):

Basecoat - Deathworld Forest

First highlight - Elysian Green

Second highlight - Ogryn Camo

Wash - Athenian Camoshade

Final highlight - Ogryn Camo (lips, knuckles, etc.)

I figured the Black Orcs’ armour represents Nobz save well enough, and you get plenty of choppy bitz in the kit ;)

The kommandos are done. I got out the phot box and took some pics with my regular red background, and with white. I wanted to give white another go as that is what people usually use…but as you can see the colours are just so dulled. Red not only goes faster but looks better :D

I am tonight going to try some with the white background and my DSLR, rather than my iPhone (which I usually use). We’ll see how they turn out.

med_gallery_63428_13471_45518.jpeg

I took some slightly better photos, though I think I prefer the red background still. I wanted to take some on white to show that, after finishing them, I glazed them with a watered down version of the iron oxide paint I use for their bases, the idea being that the mob rubs the dust and sand from the ground all over themselves before going out huntin.

I took these with my iPhone(12) as I did try my DSLR too but they weren’t that different…not enough to make the time editing down big DSLR photos to 2MB for the B&C worth it.

Buuuut I’m going to take some pics with the red background this weekend too as I prefer the results.

Anyway, for now, here’s the mob of (Khornate) Snakebite kommandos:

The mob have Dark Tongue glyphs here and there; on the nob’s shoulder, on their trophy skulls, etc.

med_gallery_63428_13471_206074.jpeg

med_gallery_63428_13471_122658.jpeg

And Zodgrod WIP

med_gallery_63428_13471_81060.jpeg

Thank you!

I took some shots of the kommandoa on a white background again but with a different app. I think they turned out better so I put them in my Hall Of Honour thread.

Hopefully I can get Zodgrod finish this week :)

I think I’ll do the nob on squig (don’t remember the name) next. I’ve seen some people doing blue squig and I rather like them. Better contrast with my Mars-like basing, and it will show a difference between the squigs that the warband brought with them, and the dinosaurs they captured on-planet.

Can never go wrong with a big banner! Can't wait to see what you do with this one!

As a complete tangent, my memory has just been jogged of an old White Dwarf battle report for WHFB featuring an Orc siege of an Empire city, including such marvels as "Big Gork" (a gigantic siege engine) and more importantly, a "Squiggadon"- a converted FW Squiggoth proxied as a tweaked Stegadon. Given that the FW Squiggoth is rather pricey but still has rules, maybe a reverse of the Squiggadon concept is in order- converting the much more affordable Stegadon kit into a Squiggoth breed for 40K? Just imagine the size of the banner you could put on that! :laugh.:
